10 || oh that poor boy, poor him
jun fumbled around with a few of the dirty paintbrushes before bringing them over to the sink to wash them. after doing just that, he proceeded to both dry them and his hands before turning his attention to the stack of student portfolios that needed organizing. the purple haired student's unnecessary comment had earned both him and joshua after school detention, which really wasn't as bad as you'd think.
the art teacher was one of the more lenient teachers in their school so she didn't hold a grudge against either of them for talking in class. all she needed to do was make an example of them so other students wouldn't think it'd be okay for them to chat during class time as well. she was actually pretty fond of both joshua and jun so their punishment only consisted of doing minimalist things like cleaning the art room and organizing work.
while joshua remained silent on the other side of the room where he was wiping down tables, jun sat himself down on the floor as he began going through student portfolios. he organized them in alphabetical order, coughing a bit because of the dust the folders collected, and even smiled when he saw his own folder. and then the purple haired male came across joshua's folder which was filled with creative artworks that looked as if they took a good while to create. thoroughly impressed, jun stood up from the floor after going through all of the portfolios and carried the medium sized stack over to the table joshua was currently cleaning.
"hey joshua, where do you think these go? I finished organizing them, not to mention dusting them. they were as dusty as a mummy's ass, if I had asthma I'd be dead!" jun laughed as he tried to ease the tension in the room with a mediocre joke. of course the brunette wasn't at all amused by it; instead joshua was trying his best not to burst out in anger at the chinese student. first he ended up getting them both detention and now here jun was cracking jokes as if they weren't being punished.
"just put them down wherever." joshua sighed as he collected himself. that seemed to be enough to send jun away for a bit, he was grateful that the purple haired male didn't continue questioning him. the brunette let out an exhale of relief as silence filled the air. it wasn't long though before jun seated himself right on the table joshua had finished cleaning, leaning his chin on his right hand as he eagerly spoke. "now that I'm done, we have time to talk! how are you doing? oh I heard you had a project with seokmin, I bet you two aced that-"
"what do you think you're doing?" joshua's guard raised as he backed away from him defensively. he wanted nothing to do with the hyper student who pouted softly as a reaction to joshua's body language and harsh tone. of course jun didn't give up. he wasn't about to let himself feel discouraged by a bad attitude; he had gotten a somewhat positive response out of joshua once before, jun was confident he could do so again.
"I'm just attempting to make casual conversation. I finished organizing those files so I need to blow off time before detention ends duh." joshua turned to finally look at jun in the eyes. the purple haired student could easily tell that the senior was not at all amused by his comment. in fact, it looked as if joshua felt the exact opposite of amused as he practically glared into the chinese male's soul. "the detention we only have because of you."
"hey look, if I didn't get us detention than we wouldn't be here having fun while bonding over these dusty portfolios!" jun exclaimed enthusiastically to emphasize his point. unlike joshua, he didn't really mind staying after school. he figured it was conventional seeing as he had nothing else to do with his free time. he did have plans to go to the park, but he spent all weekend outside with his siblings. organizing work for his teacher was calming and way more pleasing than he had originally thought it'd be. he made a mental note to himself to stay after school more often to help out. "and that's a good thing? you know I'm getting really sick of you junhui, I tried being nice because of our friends but all you do is fool around and ruin my life."
"it's just detention, it's hardly a crime! do you know how many times I've gotten detention this week? well the week just started so just once, but I at least have room for one more." jun huffed impatiently. joshua's irritated tone was starting to bother him. he was getting annoyed with joshua because of how insistent the senior was on denying and countering every single thing he tried to argue with. it was very fitting though because joshua had just about had it with jun as well.
the brunette felt his anger towards the bubbly senior building up within himself. joshua tried drowning out the sound of jun's voice, but the purple haired student wouldn't let up. this contributed majorly to the headache that joshua could feel coming on. he proceeded to rub his forehead softly, sighing out loud in frustration before he felt himself . "I don't have any room for detention, or you as a matter of fact junhui!"
the room grew quiet simply because jun had no idea on how to react to joshua's angry outburst. it seemed like joshua was calm, but the senior had spoken way louder than jun had ever heard him speak before. it seemed out of character for joshua to just burst out like that. it kind of scared jun that he had pushed the brunette that far, but at the same time he was a bit frustrated himself for not being able to get joshua to open up to him.
it was good timing on the teacher's part though because she had walked into the room right as the awkward silence between the two high school seniors had drifted away. her presence was enough to stop any potential arguing between the two students even if neither of them were the type to argue fiercely. both males though were unaware of how the older woman had overheard their heated conversation as they turned to do their own work collectively.
"please refrain from chatting during my class again boys, it is quite tedious to have to teach over your personal conversations. other than that you both are free to go." the art teacher spoke passively as she smiled at both students. joshua took that as an immediate indicator and proceeded to finish up the rest of his detention task before heading back to his locker to grab his belongings.
meanwhile jun took his time to leave. he even ended up helping their teacher with a few more things before they both walked out the room together. they didn't take so long doing so because they were able to catch joshua finally leaving the school with his bookbag full of textbooks and such. jun smiled as he waved to the brunette, to which joshua replied with absolute silence. next to him, their art teacher sighed. "leave the poor boy alone, I'm sure he's had enough jun for today."
"as much as I would love to agree to that I can't promise anything, I have a mind of my own!" jun announced proudly, making his art teacher chuckle before she took her leave. not long after jun left the school himself, eager to go out and spend the rest of his day exploring the world.
