joshua felt completely relieved by the sound of the whistle that signaled to his gym class that they were allowed to relax from the activity they were currently involved in. the senior took shallow breaths as he made his way to his bag where his bottle of water sat, not getting startled at all by how seokmin and mingyu had managed to appear next to him out of thin air.
the gym class was a mixed class made up of both seniors and juniors, so it was only natural that seokmin and mingyu ended up in the same class as the three seniors in their friend group. the two tall juniors were also on joshua's team for the class soccer match they were playing which meant that they felt inclined to gather up near joshua when the whistle rang.
both juniors knew it was best not to bother joshua while he sipped at his water bottle so instead they proceeded to talk about how their team headbands felt like they were squishing the life out of their foreheads. even though the headbands were a bit tight though, mingyu commented that he loved how the red color of the head accessory complimented his dark brown eyes which started up a whole conversation about how seokmin feared the color red since it reminded him of blood (why he didn't question mingyu's comment is beyond me).
it was while drinking water that joshua spotted jun sitting on a bench out of the corner of his eyes. the purple haired male was very easy to identify from across the field so joshua did notice him from the beginning of their gym period, more specifically he noticed how the cheerful student hadn't participated at all in the group activity.
"it's unfair how he gets to sit out while we all have to work hard playing." joshua asked seokmin and mingyu while keeping his eyes on the purple haired male. he observed how clean and relaxed jun seemed compared to chan who had asked the older male to move over so he could rest from running back and forth on the soccer field. jun complied and even handed wonwoo, who wasn't tired because he spent the whole time on the field reading, his water canteen so that the ravenette could have a sip.
at least wonwoo had bothered to at least stand on the field. the ravenette even occasionally kicked the ball when it approached him, although that was more out of anger because it threatened to disturb his reading (yes he even went as far as to read while playing soccer, he was a total book worm). mingyu frowned when he noticed how bothered joshua was by jun's lack of participation. he knew very well that the senior cared a lot about equality, especially when it came to grades because he was such a hard worker.
"it's gym class to be fair, are we really working that hard?" seokmin laughed. he wasn't completely wrong seeing as a good portion of their gym class was very uninterested in participating in the gym sport activity. a few of the juniors were like wonwoo in that they just stood on the field while trying not to get hit by the ball, so seokmin didn't really take offense in seeing jun slack off.
"hey speak for yourself, I'm very competitive! there's no way I'm letting jun and wonwoo's team beat us! wonwoo will make fun of us for it." mingyu wiped his forehead to get rid of all the sweat pooling up on it. he caught wonwoo glancing at him and decided to lift his white gym shirt up to pretend like he was fanning himself with the end of his shirt when really he was trying to show off.
joshua didn't really pay attention to how seokmin was trying to defend jun or how mingyu was trying to change the subject, he was still bothered by how lazy jun was being. what even was the point of the purple haired student showing up to class if he was just going to sit there? to someone like joshua who cared a lot about school work, it was very offensive that jun who was doing nothing would probably get the same grades as him, someone who was working his ass. "why does he get to sit out though?"
"he's probably just tired. it isn't really that hard to get a free pass in gym. once I pretended like I was allergic to the ball and the teacher bought it." seokmin spoke warmly of his fond experience of getting to skip out on a gym activity. it was truly magically how the brunette had managed to get away with it, especially since he had used such an outrageous excuse. however, mingyu was not here for his nice flashback. "yeah she bought it for thirty seconds before forcing you onto the field."
seokmin pouted at how mingyu exposed him. joshua had to admit that he stifled a laugh at how sad seokmin looked. that and the sound of their teacher calling them back onto the field for the rest of their soccer game momentarily distracted joshua from his curiosities about jun. when he was on the field in his position, mingyu walked over to him and ended up answering joshua's question about jun.
"jun isn't really good at physical activities and stuff so he sits out when the class plays sports. I'm not sure why but wonwoo mentioned something about a condition he has." mingyu explained, although his response still was a bit ambiguous. joshua gave him a small nod, thanking the taller student for actually paying attention to his question unlike seokmin who did anything he could to avoid the question.
except mingyu's answer only made joshua question the chinese male even more. if what mingyu said was true then jun would spend a lot of his time being careful with his movements instead of running around and being wild. that was why joshua began to doubt the information he was given about the purple haired male as he thought out loud to himself during the rest of their gym period. "it doesn't seem like that when he's at the playground running around with his sister."
