02 || let's go shopping together

the weekend had arrived sooner than joshua had expected, but that did not mean that the brunette would let up on all his hard work. there was a math exam he was expected to study for, not to mention a small tutoring session he had agreed to attend with his group of friends. however, joshua had other things to do before he proceeded to go through with the rest of his agenda.

the brunette had been entrusted to go grocery shopping for his mother who had taken up an extra shift at the hospital she worked at to provide for their family. joshua's mother was a nurse who worked the day shift on weekdays and spent her weekends resting in from all her responsibilities as both a nurse and a mother. joshua's mother was already at work by the time he woke up for school and she'd get home around when her son was hunkering down into his studies so there wasn't much room for interaction between the two on weekdays.

like his mother, joshua also wanted to take a dive into the medical world which was why the high school senior was very adamant about studying hard. he had a lot of time to do so too because he spent most days at home alone; he told himself he didn't mind being alone because it pushed him to work harder on his assignments, and yet joshua looked his happiest when his friends came over to spend time with him.

anyways, joshua left his bedroom after getting dressed in some of his more casual clothing. he was wearing blue jeans that complimented the purple hoodie he decided to slip on since the autumn weather was getting much cooler. after collecting the credit card his mother left for him on the kitchen counter, joshua made his way out of the house and onto the streets.

he smiled as the sun shone on his back while he walked towards the direction of the grocery store. it was really chilly, but the strength of the shining sun managed to warm the brunette's body up. along the way to the supermarket, joshua passed by a lively playground where the neighborhood children often went to play during their days off school. joshua remembered running to the playground with chan and seokmin, not able to keep the smile off his face as they joked around while waiting for their turns on the swings.

now things were different though; joshua wasn't the same naive kid as he once was before. he had responsibilities to take care of, there was no room to fool around like he did during his adolescence. joshua glanced back at the playground, scoffing softly at it now to emit some type of an annoyed attitude with the colorful structure. maybe he thought that convincing himself to dislike the playground would help with cancelling out his desire for wanting to go back to the good old days where he didn't have to worry about his grades.

however, joshua found another reason to scoff, this time it was shaped like a particular purple haired student he knew who had spotted him and was now in pursuit of the brunette. joshua looked away, hoping that jun would give up on talking to him if he acted like he hadn't seen him. the chinese male was, for some reason, very persistent when it came to wanting to befriend joshua. of course the brunette thought it was because jun was annoying, but really it was because the purple haired male wanted to be able to get along with him.

"wow you walk really fast joshua, I was barely able to keep up with you!" jun panted softly, trying to catch his breath. running from the monkey bars all the way to the outside of the playground where joshua was passing by wasn't an easy feat, he knew that from how hard his heart was beating in his chest. luckily it didn't take too long for his heart to adjust to the strain of running to joshua. "that was the point junhui."

"geez you're really not giving up on using my full first name huh? anyways what are you doing here?" jun sighed before shaking his head. joshua was very formal with him as where the brunette seemed to be more comfortable with their other friends. jun was sure he could get rid of the formalities between them if he spent more time getting to know the brunette. what better way to do that then try to strike up a conversation with the brunette whenever he could? "I was just passing by, I'm not a kid why would I go to the playground on a saturday morning?"

"because it's the best time to get a swing before all the annoying six year olds bully you off of them! I mean I myself am a monkey bars person but I do enjoy a nice swing." jun spoke quickly while gesturing to the bright yellow monkey bars in the distance behind him. it was only fitting that jun appreciated the most risky piece of playground equipment there was; personally as a kid joshua had never even glanced in the direction of those dangerous bars, he was too scared of falling.

"you're an actual child, you know that junhui?" joshua sighed internally. he shifted uncomfortably, hoping that jun would get the message that he no longer wanted to talk to him so that he could go off and continue to walk to the grocery store. however, it was very clear that jun did not intend on stopping. he was very excited by the idea of getting to talk to joshua alone. every other time he's tried to have a conversation with the brunette he was met with dry answers before joshua scurried along to speak to anyone else. "yes I am joshua now, why don't you join me?"

"I have better things to do than run around like some little kid." joshua spoke a bit roughly, showing off his clear disliking for standing next to jun. the purple haired male, who received a few looks from people passing by them, didn't mind joshua's tone though. he actually felt encouraged by the sound of joshua's voice to continue on with talking to him. "like?"

"I'm going to the supermarket-" the brunette shuddered in place as jun's louder voice overpowered his. he regretted answering jun's question, no actually he regretted even speaking to the chinese male at all because of the words that followed his exclamation. the purple haired student was very excited by what joshua had revealed, but what really surprised joshua was how jun turned as if he was calling out someone else.

"great! I could go for some shopping too! hey jia, let's go! we're dropping to the supermarket with a good friend of mine!" a smaller female walked up to jun's side. she looked to be more quiet and timid than jun even though she had a clear resemblance to the purple haired male. she looked at joshua before glancing back at her brother. "we're not friends junhui."

"whatever you say bestie." joshua groaned as the two siblings started following him. he started his day off expecting to have a nice peaceful day that consisted of shopping for his mom and studying afterwards, but now here he was stuck with jun and his little sister. it's amazing how things almost never go the way you expect them to.
