Chapter 6
I hadn't seen Zane all day today, where could he have got to?!
The bell for the end of the day had already rang almost ten minutes ago, you can't tell me he's gotten detention on the first day!
Vylad was knelt against the gates, scuffing his shoes against the pavement obliviously while I paced impatiently next to him.
Oh, and if you're wondering, it was Dante who guided Travis off to the nurse after my so called 'threat' and insisted upon helping him home.
...Vylad still wasn't happy about what I did though, he wasn't willing to show it but I knew.
I decided to give Zane a call, though found it a waste as I soon spotted him coming round the corner of the school.
I growled slightly.
Great, now I only had 1 hour to make lunch for when dad gets home.
I didn't even know if we had enough food in the fridge.
"What took you so long?!"
I snapped as he came out through the gates.
"Busy"
He stated blatantly, walking past me.
I watched as Vylad followed after him, grabbing my arm firmly whilst dragging me along.
Neither of them said a word all the way home.
The door had been left open for us...mom must have gone shopping early this morning.
Vylad and Zane rushed upstairs as I took off my bag, Zianna sat on the couch with her eyes fixated on the television.
I rolled my eyes.
"Lazy cow..."
I mumbled, rolling up my sleeves before getting on with lunch.
First; vegetables: chopped and left to boil; second; mash: potatoes peeled, left to boil in a separate pan then mushed together with a dab of butter ; third; gravy: easy, leave the kettle to brew before mixing with the readymade ingredients (idfk what it's called); and finally: serve it up.
By time that I'd done all this dad had arrived...just about.
He was sober to say the least.
"Vylad, Zane! Dinner's ready!"
I yelled up for my brothers, looking back to see our father coming through the door.
He gave me a quick glare before closing the door, flexing his fingers before propping the car keys on the side.
Refusing to make eye contact I wondered back into the kitchen, my mother having already gotten the message and sat the table eating.
I reluctantly joined her, giving it a moment or two for my brothers to come downstairs.
Vylad yet again came down first, wearing a fresh set of clothes ready for a day of fun.
However, his cheerful smile increasingly disappeared at the sight of Garte, his natural instinct making him come and sit next to me.
This left one seat next to Garte where Zane simply sat in.
"Why aren't you changed Garroth?"
My father questioned, looking me up and down tiredly.
"...I was making lunch...father"
I replied in a faint tone
"Speak up damn it!... before you end up like the other two"
He scowled, them 'two' refering to Zane and Vylad who merely watched and ate at their food.
"I was making lunch father!...I didn't have time to get changed"
I repeated in a much firmer tone, looking into his eyes from across the table.
"Much better"
He stated
He had a tired look in his eyes, as if worked up over something...he was a labour man now, worked in the supply rooms mostly.
Ever since his business went bankrupt it's been downhill for us all...mom was no longer interested in him, we struggled to adapt with our new lifestyle...I suppose he went from a very rich man to an in debt one within days.
What made his business go bankrupt I have yet to discover.
Not a one of them asked us how our day was, being so used to saying that line waring off on them.
Mom was the first to finish eating and stood, placing her plate in the sink before taking refuge on the couch.
Garte watched her leave and glared at his food, giving me a slight glance before standing, leaving his food.
I sighed.
Zane wasn't really much of an eater either, leaving half of it before running off to his room.
Before I knew it it was me and Vyald.
He gave me a faint smile as I noticed the vegetables left on his plate.
"...heh, it's alright Vylad, you don't have to eat it if you don't want to"
I stated, scruffing his hair up softly before standing, taking the remaining plates to the sink in preparation of cleaning.
He brought his over and took hold of the towel, watching me as if saying 'when are we going to do this?'.
I smiled.
The two of us did the washing and drying up together, after I'd finish the washing he'd pass me the dry cups to put away in the high shelves while he focused on the silver cutlery.
I didn't mind, at least he had the decency to help me.
After that he went and played outside in the back yard, picking flowers sweetly.
I ventured up into my room where Zane was sat on his bed, drawing whilst listening to all what I could assume to be was music due to his refusal to acknowledge me.
Music...yeah, music.
I got changed as swiftly as possible, jeans, trainers, a jacket, casual stuff y'know.
"Why don't you come draw in the garden Zane?"
I questioned
He ignored me, transfixed within phone and focus when drawing.
I gave it a moment before repeating my question, earning a groan in response.
"I don't want to"
He barked
"Why?"
I replied
"Because I just don't! Now fuck off and leave me alone!"
He ordered, turning up his music.
Sighing I removed his earphones.
"I won't bother you if you go outside"
I bargained, getting a glare off him.
"...urgh, even if I was to agree where would I sit? The grass?!"
He sneered as he snatched them back.
"Well, no... I'll get the beach chair out from the shed..."
I stated.
The paused before sighing.
"You really won't leave me alone will you?"
He grumbled as I nodded
"Hmh!"
"Fine...fine, I'll come out! But only if you and Vylad leave me and my music be!"
He snarled
"Sounds like a deal"
I smiled, chuckling softly.
"Whatever...it smells of beer here anyway"
