Prologue

MAYNORDS ALCOHOL soaked dress clung to her freezing figure, coating the blanket around her with a terrible smell. Her hair disheveled, makeup in ruins, and head in a different space. The red and blue lights twisted in her drunken vision, making her more disoriented that she already was.

"Your parents are on the way," A cop fitted in all black said, slipping his cell phone back into the holster. May could barely hear what he said. The two loud bangs were still bouncing from ear to ear, starting a devastating headache.

"May! Someone just-we- OH MY GOD," All at once, fifty people trampled toward her, right by an exit. Her arms and legs got covered in purple scars, and hair wet from spilling drinks.

Maynord was even frightened, or upset. She couldn't describe what she was feeling. More mad at herself, for not fleeing into the streets like everyone else. Now her unknowing parents would be called, and hell knows how they would react.

Neda had long left Maynord, springing at her first chance to leave. 'Bitch' She thought. Next time she saw her, their was no doubt Neda would be yelled at.

"She's right over there," The female cop said, pointing the end of her black walkie talkie towards the mush of people sitting on the sidewalk, Maynord included.

All the eyes of the club goers, except Maynord, watched the middle aged woman walk toward them. Her wrap dress, which was just a nightgown, dragged along the pavement.

She stopped right infront of her, Maynord glitter heels parallel to her mother's ebony flip flops. They both stood still, May keeping her eyes on each individual rock on the parking lot to avoid puking.

"Neda's house right?" LeAnn asked, placing one hand lightly on her hip. "This doesn't look anything like her house to me," Her eyes scanned the Sony Club before returning to May, who didn't return the glance.

"Get up Maynord, and come to the car," She said, beginning to turn away unable to face her daughter.

May contemplated it for a second, then while steadying herself with two hands on the pavement, she pushed herself up. She wobbled quite a bit, opting to take her heels off and carry them to prevent herself from getting injured to much, and scare her mother.

She dropped the blanket the officers had gave her, letting it slide off her back, catching in the zipper on her dress before releasing onto the ground.

Maynord filed into the passenger seat, setting her stilettos and clutch on the ground infront of her. Dead air filled the car after she slammed the door shut.

LeAnn steadied her hand on the car wheel, drawing in a deep breath that she fought to stabilize.

"How long have you been going to 'Neda's house' for?" Her mother asked, unprepared but urgent for the answer.

"Six months."

"Six months?" LeAnn asked breathlessly.

Maynord simply nodded, gripping her stained lip between her teeth.

"Damn, I should be known," She dropped her hand from the wheel exhaustedly.

"Why would my daughter, who is failing practically every class she's in, want to go to study with her freind all of a sudden?"

Maynord couldn't dare look at her mother, she would burst into a crying fit if she did.

"Maynord, and please be honest, have you did anything illegal?" She caressed two fingers on her temples as if the entire situation was a headache.

"Only alcohol," Her mother could clearly tell she had been in that by the drunken croak of Maynords speech.

LeAnn shook her head, starting up her vehicle, pulling out of the parking lot, careful to avoid police cars.

After twenty minutes of cruising, Maynords eyes wandered to the middle console of the car. In the middle sat a small pamphlet with two overjoyed girls and cutoff letters reading 'Brenchw-'.

Maynord's dark finger slid over the mini book, she scanned the title and her heartdropped immediately.

'Brenchwise All-Girls School' She mouthed the title, then looked to her mom.

"Mom, what's this?" She turned it towards LeAnn, who didn't once move her eyes off the road to read what was infront of her.

"That was a thought. Ever since you flunked your classes your father and I have considered sending you away. But since tonight, it isn't a maybe, it's a definite."

Maynord wasn't worried, she would still be in or near Chicago, they couldn't send her away to far.

She opened the packet again, ready over the information slower. She found the campus section, looking at the image of the building. It couldn't look like anything close to the Chicago city.

Her eyes went down more to the small letters against the bottom.

'Concord, New Hampshire'

Maynord's heart paced quickened, and her eyes did 180 circles in the back of her head. Everything slowed down until her eyes completely closed, and she passed out.
