ant-man and the wasp: quantumania

SPOILERS!!!!

I really wanted to like this movie. Marvel has been letting me down so often. multiverse of madness and love and thunder were disappointing, which was not a good sign for this movie. I love Scott Lang and Paul Rudd, the first movie is probably my most-watched Marvel film. But gosh, this movie was...such a letdown.

But to keep this somewhat positive, I'll start with the things I liked:

1. The most obvious, but the visuals were stunning. The VFX team did such a good job. It felt like they were actually given time to work, unlike the rush job that was multiverse of madness.

2. Ms. Hope Van Dyne. She seemed to be the only character that wasn't botched by the writers. Her arch was consistent and everything she did and said made sense for her character.

3. William Jackson Harper's telepath character. I personally love anything he does and with the small part he had, he made me want to see more of his character.

Ok. Let's get to the mean part. Mostly, I will be focusing on the writing of this movie, which I feel I have some authority in since I am in school for screenwriting.

Holy shit...was the writing horrible. Almost every character felt bland and a shell of their former appearances, Hank and Scott especially. Also, Cassie was just so disappointing, I feel like they could have focused on her so much more, maybe made her a main character and expanded upon her motivations, but she honestly fell into the background for me. The pacing was so weird, it felt rushed at first, then sooooo slow, and when the action did pick up, it was so anti-climactic. I actually found myself falling asleep for the first time EVER in a marvel movie.

And wtf happened with MODOK? I know he's a goofy-looking character in the comics but he at least is a decent villain, but he was just a joke in this movie. Like, who the hell cares about Darren Cross? He was on the one bit of CGI in this movie that was impossible to look at. Everyone in my theatre LAUGHED every time he was on screen.

It was just so underwhelming in every way. I'm just disappointed. Do better Marvel, for the sake of your fans.
