The pic above is Jakes treehouse

Journal entry 5
I decided not to go see Jake today. I didn't want to seem desperate. I also didn't want him to think I had no life. So instead of seeing him, I stayed at home and watched tv. Today was really boring and I desperately wanted to see him. Ha, these were the two things that I didn't want him to think. Me being desperate and having no life. Gonna go see him tomorrow.

I didn't go see Jake yesterday but I really wanted to see him today. After my classes at home, I decided to go see if he was there.
I walk down the sidewalk and go through my routine of making sure nobody is watching and then I jump through the whole in the fence. I quickly crawl through the trail but not too quickly because it looks really awkward when you crawl fast. I get to the end of the large trail and see the beautiful treehouse right in front of me.
I stand up into the clearing and walk right up to the treehouse. I look up and yell, "JAKE! YOU THERE?!"
I see him quickly appear from the door and he shushes me very loudly. "This is a secret hideout!" He says in a normal voice. "I don't want people finding it. But anyways, come on in." His face quickly changes into a smile.
I nod my head and start climbing up. When I get to the top, Jake opens the door for me so I can easily climb in. "So..." I said. "You gonna show me the rest of your house?"
He shakes his head. "Be patient. I'll show you wherever I want to show you." We stand there a bit awkwardly and Jake says after about a minute, "Where were you yesterday?"
I look him in his bright blue eyes. He looked almost sad but he was hiding it good. "I was busy with school." I lied.
His expression quickly changed and he said, "That's good. I thought you met another boy with a secret hideout." We stood there laughing at his lame joke. "Are you hungry?" He asks once the laughing wore off.
"Yeah, I could go for something to eat." I said. We walk down a surprisingly long hallway into a room that I'm guessing is the kitchen. It was really small but most of the room was taken over by a big dining table.
"Here's the kitchen." He says with a sigh. "I know it's not much, but I really love this room. It's where I keep my food and in my case, food is very important."
"What do you mean 'in my case'?" I ask.
"Well, I'm a homeless boy with no money. It's very important to have food if you have no money to buy more." He says seriously. Jake looks really tense and hard. I decided to leave this topic for maybe another day.
"I'm not really hungry anymore." I said, trying to be polite.
"Well, suite yourself." He walks over to the pantry and grabs some goldfish crackers. I was about to ask where he got those if he has no money, but I decided that it was none of my business. We kinda just stood there awkwardly until Jake asked, "Are you going to come visit often?" He looks at me with those big bright eyes.
"Do you want me too?" I ask.
"Of course I do Catherine. How boring do you think it is to sit here alone all day?"
"Ha I couldn't imagine not doing anything all day. Whenever I get bored, I just go down to the library. That's why I was going down that passage way. It's a short cut to the library."
"I wish I could go to the library." Jake muttered.
"Well why can't you? It's free!" I said surprised.
"People might start asking who I am and asking about my parents. This is a very small town we live in." He said with his head down. "People will start talking."
I didn't think about that. Of course people will start getting curious if they see a new face. "Maybe I can check out some books for you." I offered.
"You don't have to." He said nervously.
"It would be no trouble. I go there regularly."
"No really, don't." He said sharply. He must have seen the hurt look on my face because he quickly said, "I'm sorry. It's just..." He spaces off without finishing his sentence.
"It's just, what?" I said. I hoped I wasn't pushing him too much.
"It's just... Personal. Maybe I'll tell you sometime." He said and I knew the conversation had came to an end.
I don't remember when we got into the living room, but I stand up from the couch and say, "Maybe I should get going. Don't want to worry my parents."
Jake quickly stands up and says, "Of course." He clears his throat. "Hope to see you tomorrow, if you're not busy."
"Of course." I smile, "I should come to keep you company."
He smiles and brings me to the ladder. When I get to the bottom, I grin widely and go to the library.
