although his actually mood wasn't that different, it was the enthusiasm put into every action that had the older boy eyeing his roommate weirdly.
hoseok noticed this first when he scrambled down the stairs to empty last night contents into the toilet, and he came out of the bathroom to see the younger boy sitting on the stool in the kitchen swinging his legs.
he had glanced at the clock to see if he was missing something. nope, it's really 6:42 am. "jungkook, why are you awake?" hoseok mumbled, going to find something in the fridge to cleanse his mouth from the acidic taste on his tongue.
"i couldn't sleep." jungkook said. his chin was in his palm while he stirred his tea, aimlessly watching the clock as if that ever made it go faster.
"doesn't your shift start at 8?" the older asked, his head so far in the fridge and kinda enjoying the coolness of it all. jungkook hummed with a nod. "go back to bed." his hyung said.
the boy wanted to stay in the kitchen, to drink his tea and stare out the window so he could see the sun first. but he listened, grabbing his mug and jumping off the stool, following his hyung up the stairs and soon into his room.
maybe he got a few minutes of sleep, he couldn't really tell, but when his alarm went off jungkook had jumped from his bed sheets and pulled on a yellow sweater. he was already in jeans from waking up before. "bye hobi hyung!" jungkook shouted, running down the hall and to the front door for his vans, and quickly out the door.
jungkook walked to work as usual, he was excited, but not that excited to ruin the walk by running and missing the usual pretty things he's sees on his way.
it was almost funny how his priorities change so quick, the attention span not lasting long on one or more things. jungkook entered work and was refreshed with the sweet smell of many fruits and the sounds of soft hip hop beats coming from the speakers above him.
yuqi was already there, she was talking to yeosang and they laughed about something he couldn't here. every thought about the guy from yesterday disappeared in a poof as he greeted his friend and was handed a bowl of cut strawberries, "good morning." yeosang said, his voice was a little deeper than one would expect, but he remained cute.
"thank you." jungkook said. his voice was much softer, not very deep or manly as one would say. there wasn't anything about him that was manly, yet he didn't come across feminine either. jungkook always felt stuck in the middle. hoseok would tell him that's okay.
"eat up." yuqi said, "before people come in."
the raventte nodded and nibbled on the fruit, setting the small bowl on the side to steal a few bites in between writing orders.
he saw them first, it may have been an hour later, like clock work. the same group of boys came strutting down the sidewalk in their fancy shades and one kid had a tracksuit on. jungkook thought it would be too hot for that, but maybe looking cool was more important.
yuqi had already sighed, seeing the guys walking in and again drowning out the nice music and quiet chatter of the other guests. "welcome to paradise smoothie cafe, what would you like?" she said, the same guy approaching her and seeming bored already.
"this routine is a little tedious don't you think?" the guy still had his glasses on inside.
"this routine is my job." yuqi said. "i'd like to get back to it please."
"feisty." the guy muttered, finely earning a shove from one of the other dudes standing behind him, "come on changmin."
jungkook felt intimidated by them all, they had this aura that may not have been quite scary, but it was something. the only person not giving that vibe off was now standing in front of him, the same subtle smirk and deep brown eyes watching the small boy with amusement. "good morning." his deep voice rang through jungkooks ears, breaking him from his own thoughts.
"hi," he looked up from under his hat and smiled, "what can i get you?"
"i'll take another mango smoothie." taehyung said, already pulling out his wallet. he noticed the boy, and the other workers, didn't wear nametags like some other jobs. it was a little annoying.
"so," he started, trying to think of a way to execute this smoothly. the older boy glanced over at his friends before leaning against the counter on his elbows.
"so." jungkook repeated, his eyes down on the paper as he scribbled the simple order down and turned to hand it back to yeosang. he wasn't expecting the other boy to be so close when he turned around, taken aback at and feeling his breath catch in his throat.
taehyung had noticed the smaller boys eyes widen slightly and felt some pride flood his chest, making the boy flustered with just a look was good to know. "you know my name, but i don't know yours." he said.
the raventte couldn't take that stare anymore, turning around and bouncing on his feet a little, peering over the counter at yeosang piling the fruit in a bowl and handing it over with a grin. jungkook sighed in relief and focused on making the smoothie and keeping the counter clean. "that's true." his voice was soft and quiet, the other almost missed it.
taehyung paused, he didn't want to talk when the boys back was faced to him. "here you go." jungkook handed him his drink and immediately looked behind taehyung, "hi, how may i help you?"
namjoon was standing behind taehyung with a grin, earning an annoyed glance in return. "i'll take one uh-" namjoon started, but taehyung tuned him out as he went to pay on the other end of the counter.
the older boy grabbed a straw and hit the counter with it to break the paper covering. it was then that he noticed the black marker scribbled in cute penmanship.
it's jungkook. he had written, with a little smiley face next to it.
taehyung smiled to himself, walking to the cafe door and feeling the sun hit his cheeks once outside. he barely made it two steps when an arm slung around his shoulders, only one person would do that. "where's the fire?" namjoon asked, "don't leave in such a hurry."
"i have things to do." taehyung said, sipping the smoothie.
namjoon obviously didn't believe that. they weren't friends for years for absolutely nothing. "yeah, okay." he definitely didn't believe him. "jungkook?" namjoon read the words on his friends cup, the boy subconsciously turning the smoothie in his hand so the words were hidden against his palm. "is that the cute smoothie boy back there?"
it may have been a feeling of defensiveness, or whatever it was, taehyung didn't like the way his friend said that. it's not the boy was purely his, but maybe that's reason why he felt defensive. "yes." was all he said.
"so, do you have any meetings tonight?" namjoons voice finally lowered, they had reached taehyungs car.
the boys slight smile had faded and was replaced by a frown, "namjoon." his tone was firm and somewhat annoyed, they have been over this.
"i know i know." namjoon corrected himself, "sorry, i was just curious, there's that party. it's the girl with the bangs and birthmark on her hip that's throwing it."
taehyung hummed and opened his car door, sliding into the drivers seat and looking up at his friend, "i'll think about it." before driving away, heading back to his apartment to apply more vitamin k cream and smoke more cigarettes.
"he's not going to think about it." namjoon said.
