a few days after the aquarium night, it was gloomy again in seoul and jungkook was walking home from his usual day at work. he was thinking about what to do later since taehyung told him today they couldn't hang out since he was busy.
the curious part of him wanted to ask why, but he had to remember he didn't really have a reason to know why and taehyung was entitled to any privacy he wanted. plus jungkook didn't want to seem clingy already.
"jungkook!" hoseok yelled when he entered their shared townhouse, receiving a tight hug seconds later that nearly knocked the air from his lungs.
"hi hyung." he wheezed against the olders shoulder.
hoseok let him go and smiled brightly, finally grabbing his hand and pulling him inside to tell him what he needed. "jungkook, can you please go shopping for me?" he asked, "you have all those little coupons guys that help you save money and i promise i'll do the dishes tonight."
"you don't have to promise things like that." jungkook smiled, "i'll go for you, what do you need?" that solves his problem with needing to do something today.
"i'm having a friends over," hoseok said, "i need some snacks, yoongi is bringing the drinks so don't worry about that."
jungkook looked at the list before slipping it into his back pocket. "so it's like a party."
"yes."
the younger smiled and grabbed his bag again, slipping it over his shoulder and feeling the material hit his thigh. "i'll be back as quick as i can hyung!" he said, going back out the door as if he didn't just get home.
it was gloomy but the ravenettes mood greatly contradicted the weather as he walked down the sidewalk and headed to the grocery store. the last, and first time, that hoseok had a party at their home jungkook was sadly back visiting his parents.
he's been wanting to go to a party, but his hyung usually had a reason for it to not be a good time and there was too much alcohol at this one and there would be another soon and they had to leave now or else they'd be late. jungkook knee they had to be good reasons so he never thought much of it, but now he could finally be there.
the list was simple, full of snacks and mixers and a handful of limes rolling around the grocery cart by the time jungkook made it to the cashier. hoseok gave him the money to spend while he had the coupons and gave them to the lady to scan.
it was drizzling a little when jungkook walked out of the store and frowned at the sky, the bags hanging from his hands and leaving angry red lines on his fingers. he may have been away from home for maybe two hours, the sun was setting and if he had to guess when parties started they would be soon.
jungkook was correct. the sun had set further as he walked home, the pretty pinks and oranges were being pushed away by dark blues and an inky black. "hoseok, i'm back-" he stopped, pushing open the door and hearing laughter and music drown out his soft voice.
his stomach dropped and nerves set in as guys littered the living room and damn they were all very attractive.
"hey." hoseok smiled at his roommate when he walked into the kitchen and set the bags down on the counter to be emptied and devoured. "thanks, i brought up your movies to your room if you wanted to watch."
jungkook shifted his weight to the other foot and messed with his fingers on top of the counter. "i was thinking i could hang out down here, maybe." he added quickly.
a guy had walked in and started going through the bags for the food. "i don't know jungkook, you might have more fun upstairs." hoseok said, taking the red plastic cups from the cupboard and focusing more on making the drinks rather then his frowning roommate.
"i could always watch them tomorrow-" jungkook tried again.
"let the kid stay and play." the guy who walked in said, looking over at him and winking.
the ravenette just flared at the guy and crossed his arms, that nickname sending anger to rush through his veins. "i'm not a kid."
"i don't know kook." yoongi had shown up, leaning over to take one of the plastic cups, "you didn't seem to like that one night i took you out." his lips twitched into a light smirk.
"maybe it was the company." jungkook threw back.
"hey," hoseok stepped in, looking over at the younger with his eyebrows creased, "if you're trying to stay down here maybe being disrespectful isn't the way to go, that's your hyung." he said. it wasn't like he was being yelled at, but from hoseok anything that isn't lovey and happy always sounded scary.
jungkook closed his mouth so quickly after that, seeing how serious hoseok was and not understanding what he had done wrong. the pinch behind his eyes is what got him up the stairs, not wanting to start crying in front of a bunch of guys like a baby. maybe he had to stop arguing against what he just seemed to be.
his room was dark and remained that way, not really caring to hit the switch. the moonlight shining in through the curtains seemed to be enough right now, outlining little shadows from the raindrops on the window to sprinkle across his bedsheets.
jungkook fell back onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering if the tears on his cheeks looked pretty like the way the raindrops on the window sparkled.
he pulled out his phone and scrolled through the contacts, random names from school that he couldn't put a face to and others that wouldn't wanted to talk to most likely. jungkook hit contact name and pressed the phone to his ear.
he knew he said he was busy, but maybe right now he wouldn't be.
of course, that would mean jungkook would have to be lucky, or deserved some good thing to happen to him that night. that wasn't the case, instead he heard taehyungs voicemail and stayed to listen to the whole thing because maybe his mind could trick him into thinking they talked for a second or two.
that was the case either. jungkook knew better, he wasn't that dumb. sometimes he wished he was, maybe he wouldn't notice the small things that made him sad.
his phone hit the floor from a frustrated throw, leaving the boy to crawl up his bed and hide under the sheets, only listening to his own soft sniffles and the raindrops hitting the glass.
