TWENTY NINE — tough

"HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THIS?" johnny said in frustration as he stood next to chrissy's locker. "i know she really wants to go to prom and i really wanna take her to prom."

the countdown to prom was on. with only a month left until the senior prom, everyone was already getting their tuxedos, dresses, limousines, and dates. bella, like any other girl, has been looking forward to her senior prom since freshman year. she wanted to remember prom night as one of the best nights ever.

johnny, on the other hand, was clueless about prom. he didn't really care about it, but because it meant a lot to bella, he didn't want to disappoint, but sometimes his tough exterior would show. he didn't want to ask bella to prom in the way all these other guys were asking girls to prom. he wanted it to be special and unique, for bella.

"that's for you to decide." chrissy laughed as she closed her locker and held her books. "get creative."

"that's the problem." johnny said as he followed chrissy. "i'm not creative. i don't know where the hell to start. i'm not gonna do the corny shit everyone else does."

"what corny shit?" tommy said as he and the other guys approached johnny. "you're asking bella to prom?"

"of course, dipshit." johnny said as he sighed. "i just don't know how. i want this to be special because she's looking forward to prom."

"just ask like a normal person would." dutch said. "just go up to her and ask her to prom. it's that simple, dumbass."

"why are chicks so complicated?" johnny sighed as he got his walkman and put his headphones on. he walked to gym as he listened to ratt on his walkman. as he walked into the boy's locker room, he walked over to his gym locker and began to change. he tossed his walkman into the locker as he slipped his shirt off.

as he changed into his gym clothing, he overheard daniel talking to freddy and his other friends from reseda about how he would ask ali to the senior prom. he overheard how he was planning on getting her flowers and taking her on a date where he would ask her to go to prom with him. johnny finished changing and slammed his locker door shut as the guys came up to him.

"i've got it." johnny said as he finished tying his shoes. "i'll just do whatever larusso's gonna do, but better."

"and what's that?" bobby said as he closed his locker. "you're gonna take her to a restaurant and get down on one knee?"

"nope." johnny said as he walked out of the locker room along with the other boys. "it's gonna be bigger and better."

as the boys did some soccer drills, bella, chrissy, and ali ran a couple of laps around the field before joining the guys in playing a game of soccer. after running, ali left the girls and went to join the cheer team. bella and chrissy went to sit down on the bleachers as daniel approached them, asking for advice on how to ask ali to the prom.

"ali's a simple girl, which i know is ironic since she's from the hills." bella smiled as she fixed her hair. "anyway you decide to ask her, she'll love it and say yes."

"i was thinking taking her on a date and then asking her." daniel said. "i'm also thinking of getting her some roses."

"she'll love that." chrissy smiled as she finished tying her shoes. "you two are gonna look so cute at the prom."

as the girls talked to daniel and gave him advice on how to ask ali to prom, johnny walked over to where bella was. he wasn't thinking of starting a fight, but then again, daniel was sitting a bit too close to bella.

"hey princess." johnny said as he intertwined his hand with hers and placed a kiss on her lips. he held her close to him as his hands roamed her body, as if signaling daniel to get away. "the guys and i are playing soccer, wanna join us?"

"i'd love to." bella smiled. she then turned to daniel who stood up and was getting ready to head back with the guys from reseda. "honey, you remember daniel, right?"

"hey johnny." daniel softly smiled as he slowly backed away from the bleachers. after the all-valley, daniel seemed a bit more comfortable around the guys that he did back in september.

"larusso." johnny said, with slight annoyance in his voice. his grip on bella's waist tightened as his hand landed on her bottom. "are you done with my girl here?"

"yeah, i was just getting some advice." daniel smirked as he headed back to where his group of friends were. "thanks bella."

"take it easy!" bella smiled as she waved to daniel and johnny's grip tightened on her waist. she turned to johnny and placed a small peck on his lips. "were you jealous or what?"

"he was totally checking you out." johnny said as he let bella go. "good thing he kept his smartass comments to himself, if not, i would've kicked his ass."

"okay, before you get into any fights, let's go play a game of soccer." bella said as she walked with johnny, hand in hand into the soccer field.

"what'd the little twerp want anyway?" johnny said as he stretched, flexing his muscles a little, teasing bella.

"prom advice." bella smiled as she stretched as well. "he's taking ali to prom but doesn't know where to start."

"so did he ask her already?" johnny said as jimmy passed him the ball, which he immediately passed to tommy.

"not yet." bella said as she attempted to take the ball away from tommy, which she did and scored a goal. "he wants to take her to dinner and ask her there."

"what's he gonna do, propose?" johnny said as tommy passed him the ball, which bella ended up taking away.

"well, that's his plan. everyone has a plan on how their gonna ask their date." bella smirked as johnny attempted to take the ball from her, but bella ended up having control of the ball. as she kicked the ball, scoring, she teasingly tripped johnny. "what's yours, tough guy?"

as she scored a goal, she walked away from the field to drink some water. johnny stood up and dusted himself off as he ran a hand through his hair. the guys came up to him, smirking and laughing as they had just seen what happened.

"you better ask and you better do it quick." bobby laughed. "or she's gonna kick your ass like she just did today."

"fuck." johnny cursed to himself. "prom's in a month and i have no fucking clue on how to ask her and if i don't ask her, someone else will."

"just go up to her and ask her the damn question." tommy said. "it's that fucking simple."

"or just get her flowers." jimmy said. "that's what larusso's doing anyway and that's how i'm planning to ask susan."

that's when johnny got the idea. he sighed as he tried to gather his thoughts together and turned to the guys. "i know what i'm gonna do." johnny said. "and you guys are gonna help me out."

"we got you." bobby said as the guys patted him on the back. "anything you need."

"so what's the plan?" dutch said as the guys walked back into the locker room. "what's your bright idea?"

"alright." johnny said as they all gathered on a bench, near johnny's locker. "here it goes."

a week had passed, which meant prom was slowly creeping up. bella hadn't been asked yet, which made her a little bit sad, but deep down, she knew johnny would come around and ask her.

gym class was over, which was the last class of the day for bella. bella opened up her gym locker and began to change back into her clothing. as she began to change, chrissy came up next to her and took her shoes off.

"don't beat yourself up about it." chrissy smiled. "he'll come around, he's just probably trying to figure it out."

"i know but, i just feel like he's being forced into this by me." bella sighed. "i don't wanna force him, which is why if he asks me or doesn't, i'll still love him. it won't change anything."

"oh honey, he really wants to take you." chrissy said. "he's just trying to figure out how exactly to ask you without fucking the whole thing up."

"guys always have trouble in this department, huh?" bella laughed as she brushed her hair. "enough talk about me, are you going with anyone? has anyone asked you?"

"about 5 guys asked me, but bobby was the first one, so i said yes to him." chrissy said. "so we can double."

"you're kidding me?" bella laughed. "you two would look so cute though."

"oh shut it." chrissy laughed as she closed her locker door and walked out of the locker room along with bella. as bella walked out of the locker room, she found tommy and jimmy waiting for her.

"what are you two doing here?" bella laughed as tommy took her books and held them for her. "what's going on? you guys are creeping me out."

"you'll be fine." tommy said as chrissy walked with them. "chill out."

"where's johnny?" bella said as tommy and jimmy walked her to a little area where the picnic tables were. "can either of you please explain what he's up to?"

"he said to meet him here with you and chrissy after gym." jimmy said as he sat bella down. bella felt her palms sweat as she got nervous. she didn't know what was about to happen, but she did know that this was all johnny's plan.

dutch came up to the table with johnny as bella smiled and felt relieved. she wrapped her arms around her boyfriend and kissed him. "please tell me what's going on here." bella said as johnny intertwined his hands with hers.

"you'll find out in a bit." johnny smiled as he signaled dutch. as the students began to rush down the halls, the guys signaled each other as johnny held bella close to him.

"alright, all of you, stop what you're doing and shut up." dutch said as he stood on top of a picnic table. "my friend, johnny over here, has something important to say to a very special person."

"all yours dude." bobby said as he handed johnny the bouquet of roses. johnny stood on top of a picnic bench and held the roses in his hand. bella's eyes widened as she couldn't believe what was about to happen. ali ran over to chrissy, smiling as they held bella.

"bella, princess." johnny said as he looked down at the brunette who stood there in shock. "will you do me the honor of being my date for the prom?"

bella was at a loss of words as the students around them, murmured and awed. bella smiled and nodded. "yes, of course." bella said as johnny climbed off of the picnic bench, picking her up and spinning her around.

"she said yes!" bobby said as the students surrounding them cheered and clapped. johnny held bella close to him as the couple kissed.

"you're full of surprises, aren't you, lawrence?" bella smirked as she held her boyfriend close to her.

"for you, of course."
