Hanbin's pov
While performing, I could feel someone staring at me. I could feel everyone staring, but one gaze felt way too strong in comparison.
Amidst my performance, I looked towards the chairs and saw one of the Group G members watching me intently.
He was cute; I think his name tag said Zhang Hao. Zhang Hao was watching my performance very closely.
I didn't know why, but it felt a bit comforting to know he was keeping his eyes on me. I finished my performance and dance battle with Lip J, then walked to my seat.
Walking past Zhang Hao, my mind raced on, only one word being prominent: mate.
Mate? What's that about? Am I some sort of werewolf? What the hell!
Once I sat down in my chair, I spared one more look down towards Zhang Hao. He was already gazing at me, his cheeks flushed cutely.
My own face was burning with embarrassment.
Once the auditions were completed, only Group K was allowed to see and practice the signal song test.
We all began trying our best to learn the new dance and song, but my mind continued to wander right back to that boy- Zhang Hao.
I couldn't tell you why, but he lingered in my mind so much I decided to ask him to be my roommate.
Nervously, I walked behind Zhang Hao, calling his name.
"Zhang Hao? I know this is the first time we've spoken, but would you wanna room with me?"
"Of course, Sung Hanbin. Did you already find a room?" Hao asked. I nodded, then grabbed one of his bags.
A voice spoke in my head- I didn't know who's it could be, but it certainly wasn't mine.
What a gentleman
I furrowed my brows as my cheeks heated up again, feeling weird at there being a second thought in my head.
"Alright, I thought I'd let you pick your bed first. Are you tired?" I questioned, looking at Hao.
"Nah, not yet. I wanna stay up for a little while. Are you tired?" He asked.
"I think I'll stay up too, then."
We had a room to ourselves. The two white beds were separated by cherrywood bedside tables and lights.
I put his suitcase in front of the bed closer to the front of the room.
Protect him? I shouldn't have roomed with him! He'd never look at me kindly if he knew.. I can't let him know... no, I have to debut with him. He seems sweet and I'd like to keep that safe.
That wasn't mine either...
"Hao?" I began, snapping him out of his train of thoughts. I was sat beside him on his bed.
"Yes?"
"What's wrong?" I asked. He looked confusedly at me.
"What do you mean?" He asked, swallowing harshly.
"I think I can hear your thoughts? That sounds insane! I'm sorry- forget-"
"You, uhm, yeah, you can. It's not insane, it's just.. a long story that terrifies me to speak on." Hao said, looking up at the ceiling.
"Could you tell me? Please?"
"You'll think I'm crazy!"
"I won't, I promise." I held out my pinky to form a promise like we're kids. Zhang Hao grinned and locked pinkies, stamping our thumbs. He got up from his bed and shut the bedroom door.
"What do you know about.. vampires?" Hao asked.
"Just the stuff from Twilight. Why?" I asked, tilting my head, and looking confused.
"I'm an original." He let his fangs protrude, showing me as they did.
"What the hell?" I asked, quickly moving to my own bed. I can't believe I chose to room with a vampire!
"Please, Hanbin, please don't be scared. I swear I'd never hurt you! You haven't even heard the whole story! Please, just give me one chance to explain the remainder!"
I felt antsy; anxious. I knew I was shaking when I looked at my hands, but I had to stay strong.
"Get out. Go to someone else." I hurried to grab his bags and put them at the door.
"Wait- please Hanbin, don't shut me out! Let me finish!"
"Leave me alone!" I shouted, watching as his face fell into a dismal state.
"You're my mate- I won't go! Hanbin, please-"
"'Please' what, Hao?! Let you kill me at some point?! Get out of my damn room!" I continued shouting, pulling him up by his arms.
"I'd never hurt you!"
"I won't tell you again; either you leave or I will!"
"Listen to me!" He shouted back. Something in my mind snapped, making me allow him some time to speak.
"Fine! You have one stupid minute to win me over!" I huffed, sitting back down on my bed closer to the window.
"As I said, I'm a vampire. I'm an original; one out of a handful. As an original, I get a mate- sort of like a soulmate. You, Sung Hanbin, are my mate. Please don't shut me out..." his voice softened at the end. I could see he was being genuine, but I couldn't accept it.
"That's crazy, Zhang Hao. How am I supposed to believe any of that?"
"May I hug you?" Hao asked. I sighed and nodded, opening my arms.
Hugging Zhang Hao felt so new, yet so homely and comforting. It was weird, very weird, but I still found myself curling more into his embrace.
I soon heard him sniff back tears, making me a little confused as I pulled us apart enough to look at each other.
"Hey, no don't cry, what's wrong?" I asked quickly, gently pushing some of his bangs back to then wipe some dripped tears from his cheeks.
"Well, uhm, part of my curse is: if I am to be rejected, then my body will start to fade away, starting with my strength and capabilities.." Zhang Hao couldn't even look at me as he spoke to me.
My eyes widened as I took in that new information. He could've died?
"Oh my god.. if we didn't hug, which was me accepting you, then you would've.. died?"
Hao nodded, "but thankfully since you accepted me, my strength returned and now I feel a lot stronger than I've ever been. It must be that we've found each other!"
"Can we hug again? Please?" I asked, feeling a bit shy now that I knew he was truthful. Hao grinned, wiped the last of his tears, then hugged me again, this time a bit tighter.
"Hao!" Ollie sang, knocking on the door then quickly opening it. I didn't bother separating from Zhang Hao. Ollie could handle seeing us hug.
"Oh my god!" Ollie exclaimed quietly. He shut the door behind himself and smiled widely, almost bouncing with excitement.
"Ollie, sweetheart, you need to remember to wait for a response before you come into a closed room," Hao said, sounding almost maternal as he looked towards the younger man.
"I'm sorry, Hao, Hanbin. I just missed Hao," Ollie said, looking a little remorseful.
"It's alright! You should maybe wait for a response though," I said, smiling softly as I watched their interactions.
Ollie nodded, then it seemed a lightbulb lit above his head.
"Hao! What was that? You never ever hug me," he sulked. Hao smiled, rolled his eyes, then messed up the youngest's hair.
"Close the lock back and you'll find out."
Ollie quickly turned around to lock the door.
"You remember how I told you I'm destined to have a mate?" Hao began. Ollie's eyes widened.
"You found him? It's Hanbin?" He asked, excited again. I held his hand in mine, smiling softly.
"Yeah, it's me." I said. Ollie grinned and came to hug us both.
"I'm so happy for you!" His voice was muffled a little, but we both could understand it anyways.
"Thank you, Ollie." Hao began, looking at the clock on the wall, "it's about time for us three to sleep. I'm sure the other trainees already are asleep."
"Okay, I'll head out. Sleep well, guys." Ollie grinned again then left our dorm room.
"We can talk more about all of this tomorrow night. I do still need sleep," Zhang Hao said, yawning. He laid his head on my shoulder and pretended to snore.
"Alright. Did you decide on a bed?" I asked, running my fingers through his soft hair.
"The one at the door," he mumbled.
We separated, going to lay on our own beds.
"Night, Hao."
"Night, Hanbin."
I fell asleep with a small smile on my face.
I never had it easy with dating; especially not since I came out to my family.
I knew I had interests in men, but couldn't pick one I could love. Zhang Hao just swooped into my heart unannounced, easily gaining control.
It was way too soon for anything to happen, but my face didn't stop burning until I fell asleep.
The next morning, I awoke in Hao's bed, my head on his chest. My tired eyes looked up at how cute Zhang Hao looked, then closed again, allowing sleep to consume me once more.
