Chapter 2: A New Tradition
After defeating GLaDOS, I'm not afraid to say her name. I'm also not afraid to go back to Aperture every now and again, which is why we do just that! It's become a bit of a traditional thing, only it's weekly, sometimes two times a week. We like to go back there to remember everything that we've been through, and sometimes even let the bots do more tests, it was like their version of a playground. They were lucky that the reassembly machine was still working.
We were on our way there, walking through the field. Chell had the idea to go through everything the same way we did the first time.
After seeing the two bots hold hands, and hearing from Chell that they had kissed, we were pretty sure they were in love. I thought they were both boys. Eventually, I asked them if they were both boys and P-Body came pretty close to slapping me right in the optic. Luckily, Chell stopped her before she could. So that answers that, she's a girl.
Finally, we were there. The shed looked much more beat up and it had some vines growing around it. We managed to squeeze everyone into the lift and go down. The bots flinched when they saw the turrets, but soon realized what they were doing.
"Okay, let's go to the relaxation chambers."
Once we were there, the memories flooded back before I could even process it through my circuits that we were in the room.
"Here we are! Relaxation Vault number 843!"
"Hello! Is-is anyone alive in there?! Because it's-it's fairly urgent. Are you gonna open the door, at any time?"
I could tell she was feeling the same way, too. She kept on staring at the door that I came out of when I first met her.
Once I had loaded in everything I had in my Memory Banks about that time, we moved on and did the tests together. Many times the bots offered to do them. We let them, they were pretty nice. We came into GLaDOS' hall, leading to her chamber. We noticed a device on the wall with a port on it. We left it be, though, we didn't think it even worked anymore.
"Hey, do you know how I did manage to get back on my rail and survive that claw attack? The crow! It was the crow that picked me up and set me back on my rail." She didn't look nearly as surprised as I expected her to be.
She motioned the bots to come with her and she saw an incinerator chute on the other end of the room. She stared at it.
"You couldn't possibly be thinking to jump down there, are you?!"
She ignored me and stood on the edge of the chute, and finally jumped down.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! YOU'RE GOING TO GET US KILLED!"
To be honest, I didn't even actually think that. I'm just so terrified of heights. We landed at the bottom finally and I was panting so hard.
"Why-why did you do that?!"
Before she could answer, we heard a voice behind us.
"Oh, you're back. Please don't leave me like that again."
It was Doug. He was sitting in a corner of the room and holding something. I saw a velvet colored glow coming from it.
Chell moved closer and I saw that it was Morality. It was charred even worse than her cube was before.
"How did you manage to get Morality back?!"
He raised his hand and Chell jumped back when she saw a missing ring finger.
We heard two metal clanks behind us and we turned back around to see the bots. They must've finally manned up to jump. To be honest, I'm not one to speak, seeing as I just screamed at Chell for doing it. I was probably more afraid than they were.
Doug stood up and we saw a mural behind him. It was another painting of Chell. He really needs to stop doing that. It's freaking me out.
She didn't look surprised at all though, she had probably seen this before. Chell motioned for them to follow and she lead us to what looked like an abandoned testing track.
"Did you bring the Portal Device?" I asked, realizing that if not, we were stuck.
She shook her head and I started to worry. Thankfully, P-Body stepped up and handed hers to Chell. As we moved on, I noticed how familiar the chamber looked.
We reached a hazard sign at the beginning of the course that had the bold number 19 at the top. Then it came to me.
This was the test chamber where GLaDOS tried to burn her subjects in the Incinerator Room. I remembered back to the time when I was in one of the monitoring rooms. I was screaming as hard as I had ever screamed before. I was crying so hard. I thought she had perished. When I looked up, she wasn't there anymore, but I hadn't heard any screaming or anything.
We had just completed the test backwards. Doug seemed to remember it, too. I didn't even know he was there at the time. If I had hands, I would've put one on her shoulder. She was staring at the hazard sign, still. The bots looked so confused.
Finally, we carried on. We went on until we were in the room where I first disengaged myself from my Management Rail when we heard an all too familiar, non-robotic voice behind us followed by a slow clap. We froze in our tracks.
