Chapter 5: Is This Love?
Chat Noir/Adrien's POV:
Y/N's face went white as she started to fall to the ground. My muscles tensed up and were ready to fly into the action, but I was frozen to the ground. My blood went cold and my heart was all I could hear. My hands started to shake and pure instinct let loose. I raced forward and saw the ground getting closer and closer to Y/N.
She was so close now. I stopped running and skidded to her on my knees. The rough earth hurt, but I ignored the pain and kept my eyes on Y/N. But I was too late. With a thud and a spray of pine needles, Y/N landed on the ground. I put down my hands and got to my feet. I stared at her for 3 seconds, seeing the light bounce off her (Hair Color) H/C hair. I ran to her then and knelt down beside her. "Y/N!" I yelled. I picked up her head and saw her eyes were closed. Not a relaxed closed, they were slammed shut. Tears streamed down her face and I could see she was scared. I let my lungs take in air and calmed myself down. I glanced up at the roof. The figure was gone. I glared at the place where they had been. Who were they was another question that I would ask later on. I glanced back down at Y/N when she started to make a whimpering noise.
"Y/N, you're fine. You're safe. Open your eyes," I said softly. But she didn't open her eyes. I let my ears straighten and I settled down, crossing my legs. I held her head close to my chest, and took calming deep breaths. "It's ok, it's alright," was all I could whisper. Felt her shoulders shutter in my grasp for a minute or two before they went still and I could hear her own breathing smooth out.
All of a sudden, I felt tired. My eyes were heavy and I felt my muscles ache from the constant jumping. But I remained holding Y/N with me. It wasn't safe to be out in the open like this... I glanced down at Y/N and saw that she was sleeping. How long has it been?! I wondered, glancing around. I turned and grabbed my staff and checked the time. 2:33 pm.
"Jeez," I whispered. "Well, I'd better find us a place to go, Kitten. That figure won't touch you as long as I am alive." I smiled and got to my feet, and steadily walked into the forest.
Y/N's POV:
Minutes passed in the darkness of my mind when I felt the ground collided with my body. I felt numb and cold. I believe my body went into shock and I couldn't think of what was going on, or where Chat was. After a while, I felt my body start to feel again. I opened my eyes and felt hard ground under my left side. I swallowed and saw the floor under my side was green and spikes of dark green in front of my eyes. Where am I? I thought, almost mindlessly.
Everything was blurry in my vision. Shades and blots where green and brown and black with lighter and darker shades. I blinked slowly and felt in my hand fingers that were laced between my own. All thoughts basically left my mind of whose they were. I felt from the hand a trail that was an arm that was over my right side and curled up next to my back.
I wished to roll over and see who it was, but I didn't want to let this moment go. It was too beautiful and too sweet to just throw into the wind like dust. I looked down at my hand, nuzzling my head into the soft grassy that tangled it's spikes in my hair. A black leather hand was found and I realized that it was Chat Noir. I smiled lightly and held his hand tighter.
My hero, I thought, you are my hero, Chat Noir. I couldn't understand the beating in my chest. It wasn't my heart, I knew that. It was a heavy feeling at the bottom of it, almost as if I had loved this boy forever. The feeling was fragile, almost as breakable as glass. I couldn't understand it at all. I had never felt this way before, not even of my parents.
Was this love? The feeling I felt when I was hypnotized by the way his heart beats with bravery and courage? I was breathless with the sharp and heavy pain at the bottom of my heart. At that moment, I was in love. And when I closed my eyes, I dreamed of us. I dreamed of flying through the clouds, seeing his face and finding that he was the one that I had waited for all my life. And even though I wasn't a super hero with unique abilities, nor was I someone with a secret life. I was just me. And I hoped he loved that, too.
When I opened my eyes, I wasn't in the vibrant green grass anymore. The grass around me had more of a gray and blue tint to the green and pine needles covered he new blades as they tried to poke up to the sun.
The warmth around me was gone. My hand held no hand. It was just a dream... "Kitten?" I quickly shut my eyes and pretended to be asleep. "Hey, Kitten," Chat's voice called. I felt his hand softly land on my shoulder and gently shake me. "Kitten, you awake?" Ugh! Why can't you just accept that I'm asleep, Chat! I thought. My heart beat hard in my chest and I could hear it in my chest, pounding away like soldiers marching.
I couldn't pretend anymore. I flicked open my eyes and they were still blurred. "Hi, there, Kitten," Chat purred with a flick of his ears.
I nodded and tried sitting up. My arms and legs seared with soreness. Chat helped me sit up against a rock that wasn't far from where I was asleep. "How long was I out?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"An hour or two. No big deal," Chat responded. Behind him, a flickering orange fire glimmered. I glanced up at the sky, the lighter blue of it all had suddenly turned dark blue.
"What time is it?"
"6:15ish." Chat Noir smiled. "Are you cold? You can join me at the fire if you want. I have some food if you need any."
I stared at him bewilderment.
"Where did you find food?" I asked.
"Got some from a bakery and meat locker not far from here," he said, purring.
"What?" I said flatly.
"Yeah!" I couldn't help but snicker at his silly grin. Moments later, we were both laughing, tears running down my face and my stomach hurting. After the laughter died down, Chat Noir was staring at the sky as it got darker with night approaching fast.
"It's probably going to get cold," he huffed. "Can you walk?" He turned his gaze to me and with the fading light his eyes glimmered green by the fire light. I tried moving to my feet, but my legs were screaming for me to stop. I gritted my teeth at the pain. I had gotten to a crouch and attempted lifting myself up before I started to feel myself fall backwards. Chat's hand caught me between my shoulder blades and helped me stand up.
Carefully, he led me to the fire. "Do you remember what happened?" he asked, caution singing in his voice. I blinked at him in confusion before sitting down in front of the warm fire. "When you fell?" I blinked and tried to remember. What did happen? I asked myself. I stared at the dancing flames of the fire and thought long and hard about what had happened. All I could think of was my dream. I shook the thought away and tried looking past that and even farther back.
All I could find was the way Chat looked at me. The horror on his face and I could imagine that both of our hearts stopped for a split second there. Then I could remember seeing a dark orange, black, and white figure that had long ears.
"I remember... I remember seeing the person who pushed me," I whispered. A spray of orange and yellow sparks flew into the air like fireflies, their glowing bodies dimming fast until they became nothing but ashes in the air.
"Could you tell me anymore details?" He prompted, a deep suspicion glowed in his gaze. I tried searching the image in my mind harder.
"The person was a girl with long hair... She had long ears that sat up on top of her head," I continued cautiously. Chat nodded and stared at the flames with me. The night was getting darker and darker and the trees around us looked like skeletons that reached for the sky with their long branches and and the leaves were far out of sight.
