Chapter Two
My body is wide awake, waiting for him to come through the door. It's two am and there's no sign of him. I'm worried.
All of a sudden, causing me to jump slightly, the door opens slowly. Quietly.
Alpha Jack. He's 28 years old. I watch as a smirk is placed on his lips as he sees me waiting for him. Not waiting. Hoping that he'll leave me alone tonight. Alpha Jack would be a handsome guy, if only his personality wasn't the worst. His blonde hair shines in the light that I left on. It was always his request. Leave the light on so I know you're waiting for me. His blue eyes trail over my body slowly, taking their time at certain places. I know he always looks at me like he's going to try it with me. He won't. He's always come so close to touching me in those places, and then he backs off like he knows he's not allowed. There's always something stopping him and I'm grateful for that.
“Come on.” he says and I nod looking down at my hands. Never look an Alpha in the eyes.
I stand up and follow him down the stairs. Everyone is in their rooms. It's the curfew here. Everyone should be in their rooms before 12am. If anyone is spotted after 12am, well there's never been anyone to dare step outside their room.
I follow Alpha Jack towards the basement where the pack keeps their prisoners. I walk past them quietly, feeling their eyes on my body. I look down.
Going to the end cell, Alpha Jack opens the door and waits for me to step inside. There's no guards waiting next to the cells. He always tells them to leave because he does his own checks around the cells at 2am. Me. No one would dare to say no to the Alpha.
I step inside the cell, and he follows behind me as I walk to the chains. I stay standing up, as he wraps the chains around my wrists. He tightens them, and locks them on. Silver chains. There's no moving me from here.
“Such an obedient little wolf...or are you a wolf?” he whispers into my ear, his nose trailing down towards my neck. I lift my shoulder up so he can't go anywhere near my neck.
Alpha Jack doesn't have a mate. He's never found one. It's why he likes to play with the girls here. Everyone throws themselves on him, and he takes them with open arms.
Mates. Would my mate ever want me, knowing that he will only know half of me? There's no place for a mate in my life. He wouldn't want me anyway.
“Just be a quiet little girl, and this will be easy.” he grins at me.
I look down and nod.
I see him walking away, and out of the cell. He leaves to get his special whip that's just for me.
After a few seconds when I hear the basement door close, I let out a sigh.
“Sky!” I hear Henry’s voice and a smile finds a place on my face.
“Hey guys,” I reply back, though I can't see them from the dark. A week after I shifted, was the first time Alpha Jack brought me here. That's how I've met the other people here. Alpha Jack always leave for three minutes exactly and in those three minutes, I've gotten to know the other people here in the cells.
“Mummy asks how are you?” Henry says loudly from the far end of the basement. I know Henry is a five year old who was brought to the cells because of his family. Apparently his family had betrayed the Alpha and he killed his dad but his mum is alive. She can't speak though. Henry was locked up with them. He grew up in the cells.
“Yeah how are you?” Aiden asks and I blush a little. Aiden. He was brought here because he had killed a pack member. Aiden is 23 years old and he's been here since he was 18. Five years and he gets hotter day by day. Every time I walk through the basement, my eyes always finds his green ones. He's always smirking at me, and he winks too. At me.
“I think you've made her speechless,” Aria says, and I know she's rolling her eyes too. Aria is Aiden's sister.
“Well-” I cut Aiden off quickly.
“I'm okay guys. Now shut up because he's coming back,” I reply quickly.
I hear a small growl and I know it's from Henry. Henry hates the Alpha. For five years Henry has been here. He's never been able to make friends or see anyone or go to school or anything. He was raised in these cells. The only people who help him is Aiden and the rest of the people here. There's at least 15 people in these cells. Some of them don't bother to talk, their minds lost to their wolves. The others, they always talk to each other.
The basement door opens, and I hear him come inside. I hear his footsteps approaching and I lower my eyes.
“Well let's get back to work then,” He says and I close my eyes.
It's beginning. The torture. The blood. The screams. The cries. The pleas to stop.
I let my mind wander off into my thoughts ignoring the pain, as Alpha Jack whips my back. A quiet whimper leaves my mouth, but I close my eyes tightly, ignoring it.
What would it be like to live a different life? To be free? To be who I want to be? My mind doesn't let me hope about things like that.
A scream leaves my body as Alpha Jack whips me again. Harder. Faster. They keep on coming.
“Please...stop,” a sob leaves my mouth and tears trail down my body. I should be used to this by now, but the pain never stops.
“What was that? More you say?” he chuckles and tightens the whip in his hand. It's a silver whip with a gold handle. He would never touch silver. With a full turn from his body, he hits me with the whip, a scream and sob leaving my lips loudly. Silver isn't supposed to hurt me but when Alpha Jack whips me, it's different.
I cry.
“I think that's enough,” He says dropping the whip.
He moves closer to me, and opens the chains. I fall down to the floor and hold my stomach. It hurts. My back burns and my stomach hurts.
“Show me your arm,” he orders and I lift my arm up slowly to show him.
He pushes the sleeve up and hums to himself proudly. His mark is still there. Property of Alpha Jack.
“Get yourself up and let's go,” He orders again and I nod.
I push myself up on my weak legs and stand up. Not straight. Slightly hunched, because I can hardly move my back. I need to sleep on it.
“Thank you Alpha Jack,” I mutter. As usual. Every time he does this to me, I have to say thank you like I'm being rewarded.
He nods again, happy with how things are and starts walking out of the cell, with me behind him.
I don't bother looking up or at the other people in the cells. I just silently follow him.
I feel someone brush their hand with mine and I look back to see Aiden’s arm out of his cell, his hand brushing against mine. Softly. He smiles at me and winks too. Like everything is going to be okay.
I turn back to look ahead of me and I follow Alpha Jack out.
“Go to your room and don't be late for breakfast,” he says and I nod, saying goodnight to the Alpha and thanking him again.
I walk back to my room, to the attic, tears trailing down my face. I keep the sob in and ignore the pain with every step.
Thank you I whisper into my mind to Kira.
Kira. She's no wolf. She's no one to be messed with. I keep her silent inside of me. No one needs to know what we are. That we're the last of our kind. The white tiger. The Weretiger. The last one. Everyone thinks I'll one day shift into a wolf. I will never be a wolf. I will never be one of them. I am a tiger and I will always be that. I will always be proud of what I am.
My parents died protecting me from people who've killed all of my pack. It was only my parents and I left. Now it's only me. Kira will never bow down to these wolves. She's her own pack. She's my pack. We're a pack.
Don't talk to me. I'm healing you, she replies back in a huff.
She's always annoyed at me for not letting her be herself, but she also knows she can't be. I'm not strong enough to take on the whole world. I don't have a loyal pack behind me that will protect me when they know who I am. I have Kira and Kira has me.
By the time I get to the attic, my stomach is nearly healed. Since I can't shift into my tiger, Kira is always ready to heal me. I heal faster than any wolf. I hear things further than any wolf. My senses are heightened more than a wolf.
I walk towards the mattress, after closing the door, and lay down on my stomach. I wince a little at the pain but I know I'm going to be healed for tomorrow. The marks will be there. The pain won't be.
I close my eyes, letting the tears fall onto my pillow.
One day I'll be okay.
****
I couldn't sleep. The pain was gone quickly, thanks to Kira but my thoughts wouldn't let me sleep.
I was hoping too much for the future. Where I could live happily ever after. I could be happy. I could have a mate. I could be happy.
“Come on Sky,” Scar groans and I nod quickly handing her the trays of bacon.
I told Scarlet that Alpha Jack never came for me last night. Sometimes I tell her that some days he'll be there and for weeks he won't come again. It's the only way I can explain to her why I'm always so okay in the mornings.
“I'm going to go take the trash out,” I tell her when she comes back to the kitchen.
That's all we do. Make breakfast. Give breakfast. Clean after breakfast. Clean the house. Make lunch. Clean after lunch. Scarlet goes for a run. We come back and clean the house again since everyone is back home and they make huge unnecessary mess. Then we start dinner. We serve dinner. We clean again. Then it's bedtime.
Clean and make food. That's all we're good for.
I pick up the black bin liners and take it outside to the dustbin. I throw it inside, noticing a few pack members walking around, getting ready to go to school. I used to love going to school, until Alpha Jack said I wasn't allowed to go anymore. So I had to stop.
My eyes wander around the forest before I stop. They freeze somewhere far away. Further than our border. I don't see anything but I can hear them.
“Get in lines of 10 and be ready to attack when I say so.” I hear a voice and my body freezes again.
We're under attack.
I run back through the back door, just as Scarlet is about to walk out of the kitchen door.
“Sky wha-”
“Scar, we're under attack,” I whisper.
She freezes, the jug falls out of her hand, the water spilling everywhere.
We've never been under attack. I don't know whether to be happy or to be scared. Can I run away?
“Oh shit,” She mumbles, running through the door. She's going to let people know. I have to go before that.
I run back outside, running through people but then I stop. Will anyone let Henry and everyone out from the cells? Will anyone care about them?
I hear running from far and I see our border patrols running through the forest. They know.
“Get to the safe house,” one of them shouts at me and I turn back around heading towards the pack house. I need to go to the basement.
I see everyone running around like headless chickens in the house. We've never been under attack. Ever. We've heard about people being under attack, but for some reason we've never been under attack.
“The Alpha is coming!” Someone shouts and I run faster around people. I walk towards the basement, nobody noticing me walk inside. There's no guards here today. They've probably gone.
“Skylar?..Skylar!” Henry claps his hands at me and I smile.
“What's happening up there babe?” Aiden asks, confused. I ignore the blush on my face at him calling me babe. Now is not the time.
“We're under attack,” I blurt out.
“What pack?!” they all quickly ask.
“I don't know,” I reply, looking for the keys. They were supposed to be hanging on the wall somewhere.
“Mummy! I think we're going to be saved!” I see Henry jumping on top of his mum. Henry’s mum. I don't know her name. Ever since she's been here, she couldn't speak, so no one knows what her name is but she's always weak. Her body doesn't accept the food that is given here. So she starves and gives her food to Henry.
I find the keys hanging on the wall, and I go around opening everyone's cell doors.
“Mummy! Come on,” Henry tries pulling his mum out and she smiles at him softly.
“Why do you mean you can't? Come on mummy!” he tries to pull her up again but she doesn't move.
“Henry..”Aiden walks up to him as I open up the last door to a guy. He's always been quiet. Never saying a word. Never moving from his corner.
“We've got to go, sir,” I say politely.
“I'll stay here,” he replies his voice deep and rough.
“I'll stay with her,” he gets up and walks out of the cell. He walks towards Henry’s cell who's crying.
He walks inside and sits down next to Henry’s mom.
“She can't walk. She's not going to be able to get out of here, and I'm not going to leave her alone. Take Henry with you guys and take him home. To his home. The Blood Moon Pack. The rest of his family is there,” The guy says, his eyes on Henry’s mum.
“I'll stay with her,” he whispers softly, and she smiles at him.
“Mummy!” Henry calls out as Aria takes him out of the basement.
The other wolves follow her quickly. Aiden stays behind with me.
He holds my hand tightly and pulls me out.
“They're in love,” he explains to me as we run out of the basement.
He pulls me out of the pack house and we're on our way to the safe house.
“So he stayed with her,” I whisper, a small smile on my face.
“He's always been in love with her. He came from The Blood Moon Pack to save her when he realised what had happened. So he stayed with her. He never talked to anyone but they always mind linked each other,” he explains, pulling me along with him.
“Listen to me, Skylar. I need you to go the safe house. I'm not staying here. I'm leaving, I'm going to go and travel the world,” he turns to me, stopping me.
“Take me with you,” I whisper.
I want to go. I want to travel the world too.
“I can't-” he sighs, “I'm going alone. I can't take anyone with me. Just go to the safe house,” he pushes me away slowly.
I watch as he turns around and runs into the forest further.
Get to the safe house and then think.
I take a turn around the house and stop. The scene in front is horrifying. Wolves everywhere. Fighting, ripping limbs off each other. The green grass is stained with blood.
“Skylar?” I hear a voice behind me and I turn around to see Henry running towards me. He wraps his small arms around my legs tightly, crying.
“Mummy isn't coming and Aria left me in the forest. She ran away with Aiden,” he cries.
I bend down and pull him closer, away from the scene behind me.
“Shush….it's going to be okay,” I pick him up and he wraps his arms around my neck.
“Just don't open your eyes, okay?” I say and I feel him nod against my neck.
I turn around to see the fighting still happening behind me. I can't run away with Henry. I can leave him in the safe house. Someone will look after him.
I can't leave him. I take a deep breath, and ignore how I'm feeling. I'll look after him. Somehow, but I will not let him be another victim of Alpha Jack.
I run towards the forest and ignore the scene behind me.
I run further and faster.
Stop, Kira shouts in my head and I stop, freezing in my way.
Keep your senses open, she tells me and I nod, looking around and trying to hear what nobody else can.
There's people outside our border. They're not letting anyone go through. How did Aiden and Aria get through? Maybe they didn't.
I look around me, trying to come up with an idea.
“Henry..” I place him on the floor and he looks up at me.
“I'm going to put you up on this tree okay? I don't want you to talk to anyone or anything. Not until I get back, okay?” I tell him and he nods slowly.
“Will you come back for me?” he asks softly and I nod.
“I will definitely come back for you. I'm just going to see if we can get through,” I say and he nods, lifting his arms up to me.
I pick him up and lift him higher, with whatever strength I can muster, and push him up on a branch.
“Stay there, and hold on tight. Don't get down until I come for you,” I say and he nods, holding on tightly.
I run forward, and further into the forest. I push myself against the tree, and take a deep breath to calm my racing heart. I'm about 20 feet away from Henry, but I can still hear him breathing. That's okay.
“Get everyone together,” I hear from across the border.
“And take these two to the back,” I hear. Aiden and Aria’s protests follow.
“No!” I hear Henry’s voice and I ignore everything else, and run back towards him.
I see a blonde guy standing in front of the tree, with his arms crossed and glaring at Henry.
“Leave him alone,” I say, getting his attention.
He turns to me, his blue eyes glaring at me now.
“Get him down. I need you all to stand in a line,” he mutters. I tilt my head slightly to the left, analysing him. He has this aura around him that says he's a powerful wolf. Not an Alpha though. Maybe second in command or third.
I ignore his raised eyebrow at me, and walk closer to him. Stepping into his personal bubble to get closer to the tree, I look as he raises both of his eyebrows at me.
“Move, please,” I sigh and he nods, stepping back. He gives me enough room to turn around to Henry. Who's crying.
“Did you hurt him?” I turn back to blondie.
“Woman, I don't hurt kids. He's up in a tree. If I was going to hurt a kid, I would be up in that tree too. Just get him down, I haven't got time for this,” he scoffs, uncrossing his arms.
I roll my eyes, and turn back to Henry.
“Come on Henry. Jump down,” I say and he nods. He doesn't hold back from jumping down in my arms, and I catch him quickly, letting a breath out.
“Follow me. You need to stand in line with the others,” Blondie says and I nod, walking with him.
It's obvious that our pack lost or else this wouldn't be happening. I wonder if Scarlet is safe? Did she make it to the safe house? What's going to happen to us?
I follow blondie to the front of the pack house. Where all of our pack is standing in line. Some people are pulling on shirts quickly, while others are trying to find their mates.
I find Scarlet in the back of the line, and I walk towards her, with Henry holding my hand. I couldn't carry him all the way.
“Sky! Oh shit. Where the hell did you go?” she asks, pulling me closer to her and hugging me tightly.
“Out?” I shrug and she rolls her eyes.
“Alpha Jack isn't here. I heard he's dead. Someone killed him.” She whispers to me and I just stare ahead.
He's dead. He's actually dead. Do I feel better? No. I wanted to kill him one day.
“......Blood Moon Pack,” she whispers again and I turn to look at her quickly.
“What?” I ask only hearing the ending if whatever she was saying.
“This pack. This is the Blood Moon Pack,” she says and my eyes widen.
This is the pack that Henry’s mum wanted him to go. He has family here.
“Do you know what this means?” Scarlet asks me noticing a big smile on my face. Henry will go to his family and then I can leave.
“Alpha Damien.” she mutters to me pulling on my arm slightly.
Alpha Damien. The ruthless Alpha. The youngest, most ruthless, Alpha.
