Mogermenty Park was so peaceful at night. After running away from Guard Lady, Mack, Annabelle and I sprinted deeper and deeper into the forest until you couldn't even see the light from the parking lot lamp posts anymore. Of course, Annabelle hated the whole thing, but Mack and I pulled her along. After five minutes, Annabelle was having a fit and we slowed down to a stop.

"Woah," Mack whispered as she looked up at the sky through the trees. The smell of pine totally enveloped us, and the branches from the trees almost blocked out all the light. Little patches of white moonlight seeped in through the leaves onto the pine needle covered forest floor.

"I can barely see!" Annabelle squinted. She had a point. The only source of light was little patches of white moonlight seeping in through the leaves onto the pine needle covered forest floor.

"Anyone got a flashlight?" I asked absentmindedly, still taking in my surroundings.

"Yeah," Annabelle produced a flashlight from her bag.

"Why did you bring that? You didn't know we were going to the park!" Mack laughed.

"You know I always come prepared," I replied with a smile.

"Well, why don't you turn it on?" I grabbed the flashlight and pushed the switch to 'on'.

"Yup, that would make sense." Annabelle took the flashlight back from me and started shining the beam all around the forest.

"Stop! You're gonna scare the animals away!" Mack tried to cover the beam with her arm.

"But we need to see!" Annabelle harsh-whispered back. They wrestled with it for a while and then, Annabelle lost her grip, Mack fell backward and accidentally threw the flashlight into the woods behind us. We heard a 'plink' of the flashlight hitting some source of water.

"Look, now you two have gotten it waterlogged." I groaned and proceeded through the underbrush to get to the flashlight. I don't even know why I bothered, it was dead anyways.

"Hey, Guard Lady said to stay on the trails!" Annabelle yelled at me, grabbing my arm. She wasn't terribly strong, and I shook her hand off. Annabelle proceeded to follow behind me, which she was probably going to defend it was to 'protect' me, however we all knew she really wanted to see what water source the flashlight had landed in.

"Wait for me!" Mack exclaimed as she ran to catch up to us. Of course, she tripped over a branch and ran into Annabelle, who fell ontop of me, like a bunch of dominoes.

"And you guys call me clumsy." Annabelle growled as she stood up and dusted herself off.

"For real." I glared at Mack, only to see her and Annabelle staring in awe at whatever was behind me.

"Wha-woah." I said as I turned around. I was faced with a placid lake, with a classic little log cabin behind it.

"What is that?" Annabelle whispered behind me.

"A lake." Mack replied sarcastically and stifled a laugh.

"I can see that." Annabelle must've punched Mack because I heard a little whimper. I wasn't paying too much attention to them, and was trying to take in my surroundings. The moon made a huge white circle in the flat-as-a-mirror lake. Trees of every fall color surrounded the lake, arching over it just enough to be beautiful, but not enough to create a reflection. A leaf slowly floated down from a red tree and joined several others floating peacefully in the water.

"You guys, look." I guestered all around.

"It's so pretty." Annabelle smiled.

"Who wants to go in the cabin?" Mack exclaimed. Without waiting for an answer, Mack took off around the lake and towards the cabin, which had a warm glow from what must've been a fire escaping from the windows. I charged after her, while Annabelle walked behind us.

"Guard Lady wouldn't like this!" She called.

"Forget her!" I yelled over my shoulder.

"Ugh!" I heard Annabelle groan behind me, her footsteps growing louder, so I knew she was running. As much as she hated it, Annabelle would even run to stay with Mack and I.
