Mack

Gabriella just cannot drive. And will not be able to drive, even when it's legal. Sure, she stays within the 'legal speed limit', but who actually ever does that?! I offered to drive so many times, but just got shot down. Finally, they let me have a turn.

"Okay Mack, you know what? You try and drive this thing! It's harder than you think!" Gabriella shouted at me. Annabelle turned a ghost white.

"Finally!" I huffed as Gabriella pulled over. We both got out of the car and switched sides.

"Have fun." Gabriella whispered to me with a deathly stare.

"I will," I smirked at her and buckled my seatbelt. I looked around and took in my surroundings. The gearshift was staring at me, begging to be put into drive. I pulled it down to the "D", and laid my foot lightly on the pedal. I watched the speedometer fly up to the fifteen as I turned the steering wheel towards the road. It occurred to me very quickly that I only needed to barely nudge the wheel to get it to turn when the car almost did a U-turn. After a few attempts, I managed to get the car onto the road.

Every couple of miles, I would bump the speed up five, so within the first half hour I was going 55 MPH. Gabriella just sat next to me, shooting little death daggers with her eyes at my head.

"Having fun." Gabriella spat at me at what should have been in the form of a question, but was more of a statement. I wasn't quite sure if she was telling herself to have fun or asking me if I was.

"Yes, I actually am." I gave her a cheeky smile, which I knew set her off on the inside.

"Who wants to play a car game?" Annabelle squealed. She always got excited by the littlest things. Or it could be leftover Cam excitement, but no one was really willing to explore Annabelle's emotions to figure that out.

"What game?" Gabriella asked.

"Let's play that one game we played as like an icebreaker in sixth grade where you said one word and whoever said the next had to start it with the letter that ended the last word." I replied. I don't think she was looking for an answer from me, but I thought it was funny to annoy her.

"Okay, I'll start. Tree." Annabelle said. It was obviously the first thing she looked at, but it was a start, so it worked.

"Elephant." Gabriella added.

"Tiara." I finished. We kept going in the same pattern, Annabelle, Gabriella, me, Annabelle, and so on.

"Annabelle!" Annabelle squealed. Gabriella and I laughed in response as she held a ridiculous "yay!" pose.

"Europe."

"Ethiopia.

"Algebra. Actually, speaking of algebra, what did you guys get on question three?" Annabelle pulled her math homework out of her backpack.

"Aw, you brought your homework?" Gabriella groaned. Out of the three of us, she definitely loathed school the most.

"Yes, I was having trouble." Annabelle stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

"I got 27.8." I replied. Annabelle and Gabriella gave me the most confused look I've ever seen, and I've see Annabelle trying to figure out math. "What? I can remember stuff." I put my hands up in defense, but then remembered that I was driving a car and put them right back where they were, at ten and two. Apparently that's supposed to be where your hands are when you're driving, but my parent's are usually driving with their knees and eating drive-thru food. We're a very busy bunch.

"Well I got 34.9." Annabelle said.

"Did you get all the variables to one side first?" Gabriella asked, shocking us all. "What? I can remember stuff." She imitated me.

"No," Annabelle said shamefully and produced a pencil and continued to erase furiously.

"Okay, where did we leave off?" Gabriella asked. I knew she was dying to change the subject from something other than school.

"We were on 'a' from 'algebra'" I replied. Annabelle was still scrawling away.

"Angus." Gabriella said. I dared to take my eyes of the road and give her a confused look in the rearview mirror. "What? He's that weird kid from science."

"Oh yeah, Annoying Angus! He bothers me." Annabelle piped up as she came up for air from slaving over her algebra.

"Remember the one time during lunch, the teachers were having a meeting and Angus snuck in the science lab where they keep all the beakers and stuff and filled them all with red paint. So then when we were all sitting there in Mrs. Lacee went to get a beaker and yelled at our class for ten minutes until she figured out who did it, and then yelled some more!" I said and started busting out laughing. Annabelle and Gabriella soon joined in and then we were all laughing like a bunch of banshees.

"Okay, what letter is it now?" Annabelle managed between her giggles.

"S." I tried to say, but it came out sounding more like 'yes' because I was still laughing. "Who's turn?" I asked.

"Yours." Gabriella replied, since she was the first one to begin to act like a normal person again.

"Sandy." I said.
"Yellowstone National Park." Annabelle added.

"Speaking of parks, we're here!" I exclaimed.

"Mogermentry Park is so beautiful," Annabelle whispered. I couldn't really tell if she was talking to herself or if she was too mesmerised to even hear the level that she was talking at.

"I love how clear the stars are here." Gabriella opened the skyroof and gazed up at the sky. Annabelle leaned forward and looked out the little hole. I didn't dare take my eyes off the road.

"Where do I park?" I asked.

"Over there." Gabriella pointed to a road on the left. I turned the steering wheel ever so slightly, and it obeyed. I still don't know how that works. I guess I still don't know how a lot of things work, but that's what Annabelle and Gabriella are for.
