love is starting to look
a bit more familiar now
and it's not the steamy
make out sessions on the floor
but instead it's the way i sit
with my head in his lap
and i tell him im in pain
and he doesn't ask why

but he strokes my hair and
says "i know, i know,"
and instead of jumping into bed
with me, he offers his spot to me

i cant take it because
ive fallen ill and my
medicine is at home
at this point instead of
allowing me to dally any longer
he sends me off with a hug
get rested, he says
after this long week, please
get some rest. i want you
to stay okay.
so i go
and i drive off into the night
and i remind myself
again and again
about what true love
really is.
