chapter 9
-
WHENEVER ALEX WAS GROWING up, she always had certain impulses. She was drawn to very dangerous and bad things. Drinking, drugs, sex. It all enchanted her, and it created the person she had come to be.
A crazed alcoholic, pothead, and a magnet for sexual encounters. Needless to say she didn't act upon the sexual encounters much, they still kind of happened. These impulses had apparently carried on into her late twenties, according to the mess that happened the night before. She drank Eric's thousand year old vampire blood. Was she fucking stupid? Now, they were undoubtedly connected. Something overcame Alex, something awful awakened inside her and made her suck every last drop she could of the delicious blood until Eric nudged her off.
It was probably the biggest impulse she ever had. She couldn't really help it though. And the benefits were absolutely amazing, for the first time in a long time, when she awoke the next morning, her vision was almost damn near perfect without her glasses, which was insane.
She yawned and slipped out of her robe. She quickly changed into an old green Merlotte's shirt and some workout shorts. Another perk was that she could clearly hear Jason and Lafayette talking in the kitchen. So to investigate, she walked out of her bedroom, but not before grabbing her phone. Just as she walked out she saw Jason sticking her meat thermometer into a carrot. She crinkled up her nose and watched as Lafayette cringed.
"Hey guys." They both stopped talking, looking at Alex who was throwing her hair into a ponytail. "Lafayette what are you doing here?" She peaked over her shoulder as she reached into the fridge, pulling out a bottle of water.
"I'm just here to check on yo' brother. Tara told me he wasn't feelin' very well." Lafayette's eyes stayed on Jason, almost glaring at him. Alex furrowed her eyebrows but didn't say anything, instead she hopped up on the counter.
"You look radiant, something is different with you, girl." Lafayette eyed her with a smile on his face. A blush came up to her face, and she laughed. Alex turned to Jason who stared at her with her eyebrows raised.
"I've just been workin' out a lot more. Puttin' myself first. Just some self care." Alex shrugged, but couldn't stop herself from smiling as she spoke.
"Okay girl, go on with yo' bad self." Lafayette snapped his fingers.
"What the hell, Alex? Not gonna ask me how I am?" Jason threw his hands up and scoffed, Alex rolled her eyes.
"How are you, Jase?" Sarcasm dripped from her voice but he didn't notice, Jason nodded and said, "I'm okay. No need to worry about me." Alex chuckled and both of the boys looked at her with their brows raised.
"Am I interrupting?" Alex questioned and they both looked at each other. She sighed and hopped down from the counter, grabbing her water bottle. Alex walked over to the door, stepping out onto the porch. "Well, I'm gonna go out for a run."
Alex shut the front door, leaving Lafayette and Jason alone. She started up down the road, jogging slowly to build up her stamina. She couldn't get that dream out of her head, Eric's touch was perfect. Alex didn't know why she had these sudden cravings for him all of a sudden but she did. Impulse.
Running now, Alex had gotten to Main Street, when her phone vibrated from her pocket. Her water bottle was scrunched in her hand as she came to a stop. She flipped open her cellphone and seen a message from Eric. Alex couldn't help herself from staring at the sun and then looking down on her phone.
Are you having sex? Without me? - Eric
Alex scoffed and furrowed her eyebrows, How the hell did he? Oh yeah. Blood. Tabs. Got it.
No. I'm running. Aren't you supposed to be asleep? - Alex
Well I sensed your heartbeat going up, you're sweating and you are feeling very pleasured right now. Thinking of me are you? - Eric
It's called a runner's high and I haven't been, but now I am. - Alex
Alex bit her lip and leaned up against the wall of the post office. She took a drink of water and smiled at her phone, was it weird to be flirting with a vampire she had just met? Hell yeah.
You woke me from my dead sleep for a runner's high? What a shame. - Eric
You should try it sometime. Maybe it will bring down your ego. - Alex
Alex smirked, throwing out a line that she so desperately wanted him to grab. She started to walk on the street casually, not going anywhere in particular.
Maybe you could bring down my ego tonight? - Eric
Alex cocked an eyebrow at her phone, she bit her lip trying to think if it was a good idea to have him over. She continued to walk, trying to think of a response. Alex ended up at the end of Adele's driveway. She ran up to the porch sitting on the stairs.
I have a meeting at church tonight. I won't be home until around 10. Come over if you want. - Alex
Alex flopped her phone down and leaned against the recently swept boards. She placed her elbows on either side of her and looked up at the sky. The heat was radiating down on her and it's like she could feel the sun, wrapping itself around her. Her hair shimmered and she closed her eyes breathing it all in.
"Alexandra?" Adele opened up the screen door and watched as Alex hopped up, waving. "Come on in, you're fryin' like a fritter in a pan."
"Thanks Gran, I was running, I thought I'd come by and see you. See if you're ready for the big night!" Alex excitedly grabbed her grandmother's hand, shaking it. They walked through the den, going to the kitchen and taking a seat.
She laughed, almost giggling at the thought of her success. "Why yes, I suppose I am. I just hope everyone is polite to Mr. Compton, he's a good fella."
Adele poured Alex a glass of ice water, noticing how every gulp she took, she could feel almost each water droplet infiltrating her taste buds. Adele tilted her head when Alex downed the whole glass in a matter of seconds, but she didn't say a word. "Did Sookie tell you what happened last night? With her and Mr. Compton?"
Alex narrowed her eyes and she leaned back in her chair. "No, we all bumped into each other though. I was at this thing in Shreveport with someone and they walked in. We all left but everything seemed fine. Did they breakup?" Adele tilted her head and her mouth went into a fine line.
"I don't know. I hope not. Bill is, well he's a great person. Being a vampire aside, he treats Sookie with respect. Which is more than what most men have done." Adele keenly watched as Alex nodded her head slowly, the older woman knew exactly what was going on in her head. She didn't have to be a telepath to realize Alexandra was fighting her own feelings.
"So you don't have a problem with people dating vampires?" Alex nonchalantly mentioned, clicking her tongue. She avoided her grandmother's gaze and Adele tried to hide her sly smirk.
"No, I don't. Do you have somethin' you wanna tell me?" Adele questioned, raising her own glass to her lips. Alex was stumped, because she knew that Adele already knew.
"Well." Alex cleared her throat. "The someone I was with last night, is a vampire. I'm cautious though, because I've only known him a few days, but I just feel some sort of pull from him." Alex ranted, tucking her leg up to her chest and Adele started to snicker.
Her slight giggle turned into a full on laugh as she tossed her head back. Alex broke out into a blush, she bit her lip trying not to smile. "You are so bashful. If you like him, Alexandra, then make something happen. I know the spotlight hasn't always been on you but it's about time it is. You deserve something good, I don't have to worry about you."
-
Alex returned to her home to see it empty, once again. She groaned in annoyance when she saw the leftover plates on the counter. She swiftly scraped the leftover food into the garbage, sitting the dishes in the sink. As the hot water ran on them, Alex tied up the trash, throwing it out of the back door.
Suds were everywhere as she scrubbed the dishes. After rinsing and drying them, Alex put them back in their rightful space. She then decided it was about time to get ready for the meeting at the church. She had spent around 3 hours at her grandmother's house, eating lunch and just talking about their days.
She started by ripping her shoes off, leaving them beside her closet door. She then yanked off her shirt and sports bra. Alex shimmied out of her shorts and panties, walking around her room bare. Before she got into the shower, her first instinct was to look in the mirror.
She pulled at her long hair slightly, feeling the soft texture and she knitted her eyebrows together. After all the years she spent frying her hair with a straightening iron, it was as dry and frizzy as can be. Along with her newfound plushy hair, Alex also noticed her skin. It was so, bright. She let her fingers trail down her neck, to her chest. She stopped right below her breast. Everything in her was tingling and it was the same feeling she had in her sexy dream.
Alex snapped out of her gaze and turned the faucet slightly. She stepped into the shower, shutting the door completely. She could feel the hot water sinking into her skin, grabbing onto her muscles and releasing them from the built up tension. Alex squirted shampoo into her hands, lathering up her golden locks between her fingers.
Her mind wandered to Eric, and how fast everything was happening. He gave her his blood, the thing that was making her feel more alive and invincible was scaring her half to death.
Alex rinsed her hair and soaped up her whole body. She quickly let the water rinse the suds off and she grabbed a towel, stepping out of the shower. The cloth wrapped around her and Alex wrapped her hair up, letting the microfiber towel soak up the water.
Three knocks rang through her house and she looked out of her bedroom window. It was already sundown, according to the darkness peeking into her windows. Her hand was holding onto her towel and her wet feet slapped against the clean wooden floors. She froze when she got halfway to the door, it was she same exact thing she had seen in her vision with Eric. The same towel, the same time of night. She could only assume he was the one at the door.
Alex opened the door and a sigh of relief left her mouth when she saw Eric standing in the doorway. His shoulder was leaning against the door frame and his feet were crossed. His eyes traced her figure, and a wicked grin danced on his face. "Is this how you greet all your guests?"
"What are you doing here, Eric?" Alex raised her eyebrows, crossing her arms. She looked down and noticed her towel was slipping, her eyebrows went to her hairline. She adjusted her towel and went to close the door, but his hand slivered in blocking the door. He pushed it open even more, taking in the full image.
"Don't hide from me. I just stopped by to see how the blood was treating you." Eric's long blonde hair covered the sides of his face perfectly and Alex smiled slightly. He glanced at her with pressing eyes, and she instantly knew what he wanted.
"Don't make me regret this, but come on in, Mr. Northman." A scowl took over her face as Eric wiggled his foot in the doorway, almost teasing her before he took a full step into her house. He wandered around, stopping when he entered the living room. "Who do you live with?"
"My brother, why?" She casually walked down the hall, purposely swinging her hips as she went. Eric's eyes followed Alex's body, he noticed the way she walked with confidence when she was so vulnerable.
"His scent is overwhelming. If I didn't know better, I wouldn't be able to smell you." Eric took a few steps towards Alex, who was already in her bedroom. He watched as she stepped into the bathroom, and quickly shed her towel. He could hear her slip on a dress, she was whispering cuss words. He smirked, tucking his hair behind his ear. "Need any help?"
"Uh, no I'm okay." Alex replied, stepping out of the bathroom slightly. Her dress was on, but the zipper was at the bottom, where she couldn't reach. Eric licked his lips slightly, his eyes glancing at her lower back.
"Allow me," Eric sauntered over to her, Alex slightly froze up, but quickly regained herself. She watched through her vanity mirror as Eric's eyes trailed down her back. He carefully ran his fingers down her spine and Alex gasped. His touch sent chills that covered her whole body.
He delicately pulled the zipper up, his hand clasped the hook, signaling Alex that he was done. Eric leaned down, inhaling the smell of her skin, it smelled free. Her scent encompassed the sun, and he longed to prick his fangs into her smooth tanned skin. His fingers trailed up, almost caressing her sweet tanned exterior.
"I think I should go fix my hair." She awkwardly stepped away, sitting down at her vanity. Eric didn't bother hiding his satisfied smirk. He lingered around her room, studying her pictures and jewelry. Alex looked up at him, he was hovering over all of her silver accessories and she let out an unladylike snort. He glanced over, an amused look on her face.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, all that silver is just for special occasions. I don't wear it much." Alex brushed through the tangles in her hair and Eric gave a dark chuckle. After a few moments, Alex began to run the flat iron over her golden streaks and Eric took a seat on her bed.
"I know you have questions. Ask away." His head cocked to the side and he sensed her curiosity in the back of his mind. Alex perked up, glancing at him through the glass. She knew he was talking about the blood.
"What else does the blood do, besides you being able to know where I am. And besides you knowing if I'm in danger?" Alex had to admit, she didn't really mind that he could feel her. Having protection from a big bad thousand year old vampire was pretty good.
"You'll feel stronger, more alive. The dream you had last night? It was my blood. It brings out your attraction and it'll raise your libido. I'm surprised you're holding yourself back as well as you have been. Most girls fling themselves at me as soon as they see me." Eric slowly raised from his position on her bed. Alex couldn't help but have a tinge of anger in her. Even though she liked having his protection, she didn't sign up for wet dreams about him. She was attracted to him, no doubt but she didn't like the way he was so cocky about it.
"Are you kidding me?" Alex scoffed, fully turning around to face him. "I'm not most girls, Northman. I'm a lady, for the most part." Alex grumbled the last part, not bothering to look him in the eye.
Eric snorted, "You shoot whiskey like a grown man. That would be appalling but you make it seem so appealing. There is no denying our chemistry, Alexandra. Sooner or later, I'll be in your bed fucking you every which way, and you'll be begging for more." Alex blinked and he was in front of her, teasing her with his soft pink lips being right in front of hers. Alex was beginning to lean in when he pulled away. The corner of his lips twitched into a satisfied smirk when she saw a blush creep up onto her cheeks.
"I have business to attend to. I'll be back later tonight." He raised from his kneeling position and sped out of her house. Alex let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding in, staring at her closed bedroom door.
