chapter 3

-

JUST BECAUSE ALEXANDRA LIVED with Jason, didn't mean she completely abandoned her childhood bedroom at her grandmother's house. On nights where she wanted time with Sookie, or when Jason and her would be arguing she would sleep over at Adele's house. Not a bit was changed from the bedroom, her posters remained on the wall and a few pictures of her high school days. Alex kept a dresser full of her endless collection of clothes to change into on nights she decided to stay.

Alex grumbled as her alarm rang, the sound bounced off the walls and practically smacked her awake. She was definitely not a morning person, her bad attitude and temper shined through at its worst in the morning. Alex yawned and yanked the covers off of her but soon realized by the ear piercing meowing that, Tina, Sookie's cat was under there.

She quickly stumbled to the bathroom, taking a hot washcloth to her face and brushing her teeth. A hot shower was a quick fix for everything in Alex's life. Sad? Take a steaming shower. Drunk? Hot shower, then bed. Morning attitude, definitely take the damn shower.

After showering she slid on her glasses, and wiggled her way into a pair of jeans. She skillfully clasped her bra and threw on a Bon Temps Highschool T-shirt. She messily put her hair up in a ponytail and slapped a hat on top of her head before jogging down the steps.

Sookie was sat at the table, watching Nan Flanagan and another religious human bicker on TV. Alex fully supported The Vampire Rights Amendment and always liked watching the AVL interviews. She loved learning about their history and culture, but when it came to the blonde pantsuit lady she couldn't stand, it was time to turn off the TV. Nan Flanagan was too bitchy and she obviously was faking the nice friendly attitude.

Alex took a moment at the bottom of the stairs to study her younger sister. She narrowed her eyes, noticing her sun kissed skin was even more glowing than usual. "Did you tan?" It was like someone had turned on the lights inside her. Her hair was more blonde and bright and Alex frowned. "Did you use my good self tanner?"

"No, silly!" Sookie laughed, watching Alex make a hefty sized plate of breakfast food. Just as Alex sat down and was ready to eat, Adele walked through the door, a surprised look on her face.

"Long time no see, sweetheart." Adele leaned down, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Alex grinned, her dimples appearing.

Alex shoved a fork full of food in her mouth, "I was 'ere two 'ays ago, Gran." She reminded her, and the older woman shot her a distasteful look. Alex looked over to see Sookie wrinkling her nose up.

"God, you and Jason are just alike." Sookie shook her head, disgusted. She turned her attention back to the TV, eventually shutting it off. "I don't think Jesus would mind if somebody was a vampire."

Gran shrugged, "I don't either, honey," she scooped some scrambled eggs onto Sookie's plate.

"Is this sausage different from what you usually make?" Sookie chewed up the meat and tilted her head. She looked at Alex who was texting someone on her phone.

"No," Gran answered, placing a cup of coffee beside Alex.

"Huh," she thought, "it just tastes so much more complex than it normally does." Alex eyed her sister weirdly and continued to stuff her face.

"Oh dear, you think it's gone bad?" The elderly woman gasped slightly.

"No, it's delicious!" Sookie exclaimed, with a big smile on her face, "It's like I can close my eyes and I can see the farm the pig lived on, and feel the sun and the rain on my face, and even taste the earth that the herbs grew out of." Adele and Alex stared at her like she had grown another head.

"Are you high?" Alex whispered leaning over the table. She had a secret smile on her face and snickered, "Do you smoke pot, Sookie? If so, what would you say if I hypothetically had a tin of something upstairs." She shot her younger sister a wink.

Sookie rolled her eyes and swatted Alex away, just as the door squeaked and Tara walked in.

"Hey, Miss Stackhouse," Tara gave her a bright smile. Adele greeted her with a kiss on the cheek, "Good morning, Tara."

Tara was about to pour a cup of coffee when the older woman came over, grabbing the cup from her, "No, you go over and sit down. I was just about to make a new pot." Tara gave her another warm smile and sat down between the sisters.

"You look awful." Alex stated, sipping her coffee. She frowned at Tara. Even though she was Sookie's best friend Alex still thought of her as a little sister. She didn't want to see her go on the same track her mother had been on for years.

"Yeah, I feel even worse." She scoffed. Alex patted her on the shoulder, getting up and placing her dirty dishes in the sink. Alex decided to leave the girls alone in the kitchen, going out back to hang some laundry for Adele. She stopped in her tracks as she saw a freshly dug hole right beside the laundry line. She moved the dirt with her tennis shoes and picked up a bloodied Merlotte's shirt. She gasped, getting ready to throw it down until she tightly closed her eyes.

The sight of Sookie in Merlotte's parking lot popped into her head. She watched as Mack and Denise Rattray beat her almost to a pulp. Alex screamed going over to try and stop them but, she could never interact with the visions. Thankfully, she was quickly saved by the vampire from the other night, Bill. He threw the Rattray's back and carried Sookie to a safe spot, he used his fangs to dig into his wrist and he latched it to Sookie's mouth. Alex stared in awe as just a few seconds after his blood reached her lips, her injuries started to slowly heal.

Alex gasped, trying to catch her breath. Usually the sights and visions wouldn't have affected her that deeply, she didn't know what was going on. She especially started freaking out when she felt a drip of something trailing from her nose onto her top lip. She put a finger to her nose, noticing the red liquid and immediately throwing the shirt down in the hole and running inside. By the time Alex had gotten to the kitchen, her nose was pouring blood.

"Oh my God," Tara's eyes widened as she looked at Alex. The blood from her nose covered her hands and a lot had gotten on her white shirt as well. Alexandra walked over to Jason getting a washrag from the drawer beside him and silently handing it to him, signaling for him to quickly wet it.

"Oh dear," Adele gasped, her eyes widened when she seen all the blood from Alex's nose. It had stopped as soon as she stepped inside the kitchen, but the leftover mess was a great sight to see. She watched as Jason dabbed her face lightly, cleaning off the blood.

"What happened?" Jason questioned, turning to Alex when she was finally cleaned up some. Alex just shrugged and continued to dab her shirt with the washcloth. She couldn't help but glare at Sookie a few times and the young girl definitely noticed.

"Well, apparently, a tornado touched down over at Four Tracks Corners. It turned over that rent trailer in the clearing." Alex's head snapped over and she looked at her grandmother, her eyes narrowed. "You know the one?" They nodded.

"Oh, and it killed that couple that's been staying there." Alex froze and she knew Jason was watching her. All she could do was look at the blood on her shirt and keep wiping away.

-

After their conversation, Jason invited Alex to go to lunch with him. As they walked into Merlotte's, Dawn greeted them with a smile. Her eyes lingered on Jason as she seated them, handing them their menus. Alex let her eyes ping-pong between the two, she rolled her eyes when she finally figured out Jason's new fling was standing right beside her.

She might as well hop on him here and now, Alex thought as she sat down in the booth.

"What can I get you?" She gave them both a small smile. Jason looked her up and down and he gave her a smirk. Alex rolled her eyes and banged her head against the table making them both look over.

"Pitcher of beer, bacon cheeseburger with everything for Jason. I want the chili cheese fries. Thanks, Dawn." Alex sang, her eyes glancing between the two. Jason's lips twitched into a frown and Dawn chuckled, grabbing the menus and made her way to the kitchen.

Jason stared at Alex for a moment before he spoke, "So what did you see?" Alex was caught off guard for a few seconds. He was never one to actually talk about her ability. She liked to keep it on the quiet side but her friends and family knew what she could see. One time when Alex had seen Jason's hamster die, he told her to never tell him anything again. And so, from the time they were 12 to now, she hadn't told him anything.

"Don't lie to me now, it had to be somethin' bad for your nose to be all bloodied like that." He warned, clicking his tongue. Alex brought her hands up to the table, inspecting the ring she had on her middle finger. She glanced up at Jason who was patiently waiting for her response.

"Honestly, I don't know. It was a dumb thing but it was so, vivid. Like I was actually there and it was like real life. Usually when I see stuff it's like no noises and a few pictures. It was fucking weird, J." Alex sighed, and Jason nodded his head. He didn't want to poke on the subject anymore when Dawn came over with their plates and a nice sweating pitcher of beer.

"So, you going to Gran's tonight? Sookie is having that vampire over. Me and Tara are coming." He mentioned, shoveling fries into his mouth. Alex's eyebrows raised and she took a big gulp of her beer.

"Bill's coming over? Hell yeah, I'll be there. I wouldn't miss you and Tara freak out for nothing." A playful smile  graced her lips but Jason frowned.

"You've met him? And I'm not gonna freak out. I'm just gonna lay down the damn law. Alex, it's Sookie, I don't want her messin' around with any guy, let alone a vampire!" He said, ketchup dribbling down his chin. Alex scrunched her nose up and pulled out a napkin from the holder. She shoved it in his hands and returned to her food.

"Jason, you forget that she's my younger sister too. I'm scared to death something will happen to her, but she's an adult. Besides, Bill seems different. He's reminds me of a scared little puppy dog." She shrugged, but she actually thought about it. Vampires could be very manipulative, she had experienced it first hand, though she would never mention that to Jason. She still was worried about it happening to Sookie.

"But he is a vampire. Maybe he's been glamoring people. I don't really like to pick and place my opinions but what if he hypnotized Sookie?" Alex trailed on, mostly speaking to herself. Jason hummed in agreement, his mouth full of food. She didn't really want to give into his opinion, but she was just exercising her options. Alex wanted to give Bill the benefit of the doubt, but she'd seen how scary Eric had been the first night they met each other.

"Yeah see, now you know how I feel."'Jason tipped his glass at her, giving her a smug look. She rolled her eyes and he continued to speak, "But seriously Alex, she's gonna get hurt and we gotta stop it."

-

After lunch, Jason dropped Alex off at Gran's and went home, probably going to sleep for a few hours before the meeting. Alex unlocked the door and the house looked to be empty. Gran had went to the store to get ready for that night. She walked upstairs, seeing if Sookie was home, since her yellow car was sitting outside.

"Hey," Alex slowly stepped into her sister's bedroom, sitting beside the vanity. Sookie gave her a smile while she was putting mascara on. "Sook, I don't want to be like everyone else, but I just want to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into."

"You too? Alex, you've met him, he's a nice guy! I know he's a vampire, but he's different." The younger blonde softly spoke as she brushed a blush across her cheek.

"I spent 10 minutes with him two nights ago because I wanted to protect you. I shouldn't have even left you alone with him. But if he acts right tonight, I guess that'll be fine. I better not have to kick his ass." Alex gave her a small smile. "Do you think you like him?"

Sookie blushed, "I don't know, maybe? I never thought I would be with a vampire." Alex just smiled and shrugged her shoulders. She honestly felt a pang of jealousy enter her. Sookie had this amazing gift, she had a great life, and she might have a great boyfriend. Alex was 27 years old and could see snippets of things that could ruin people's lives. Sure she went on a few dates now and then but nothing was exciting anymore.

Neither did I but life doesn't always turn out the way you want it too. I'll just be in the background. 27 years old and haven't done shit. Everything is so boring and lonely, I need something new, something exciting.
Alex let her mind roam but she instantly regretted it.

Sookie reached her hands out and pulled Alex into a tight hug. "Now, Alex. That's not true." She soothed but Alex rolled out of her hold and pointed a stern finger at her sister.

"Don't try that bullshit with me Sookie. I'm your sister." She warned. Alex chewed on her bottom lip, "Also, what happened with you last night?"

Sookie froze slightly, it didn't go unnoticed by Alex. "What do you mean?" She questioned, swiping some blush on her cheeks.

"The Rattray's kicking your ass and then Bill saving your life? I saw your buried clothes." Alex cocked an eyebrow, leaning back in her seat. Sookie glanced over, giving Alex a glare.

"So I can't peek in your mind but you can see my private past?" She retorted. Alex just pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows, signaling for her to explain. "It looks like you already know what happened. Bill saved me. That's why I know he's different from all the rest of them."
