chapter 2

-

JASON AND ALEXANDRA HAD lived together ever since the day they both turned 18. Their parents house had always been under Adele's care and it was close to her house so she knew if they needed anything, she was just down the road. Alex's grin the day she packed her last box into the old house was bigger than ever.

Living with Jason wasn't easy, by any means. Alex had anticipated for the newly 18 year old boy to take care of himself, stay out of her way, and help her clean up when need be. That wasn't always the case. Jason was obnoxiously loud, his football friends threaded through the house late at night, or his new fling would keep her up all night. Pizza boxes and unwashed dishes were the start of her first year living somewhat independently.

But when Jason started a huge pile of dirty clothes in the living room right by the fireplace, that's when Alex knew it was time to sit down and have a talk. Not alone of course, she brought Adele as a reinforcement. After scaring some sense into him, Adele was satisfied and so was Alex. From then on out, whenever Jason would leave a mess, he cleaned it up. He was quieter and more respectful to his sister. Besides the occasional fights and pranking, of course.

This morning, almost 10 years later, started out by him screaming bloody murder. "Alex!" Jason belted out, making Hoyt, who was standing beside him snicker.

Alex jumped up, screaming until she saw the grown men cackling in front of her bed. She reached for her glasses on the nightstand and slid them on. She frowned, "What the fuck?" Said it before, say it again: living with Jason wasn't easy.

Realizing their laughter wasn't stopping, she rolled her eyes and pulled the covers from her small frame. She slid on her slippers and stood, stretching until she heard a satisfying pop.

"The Rattray's got their asses kicked last night, wouldn't know anything about that would you?" Jason cleared his throat, looking down at his twin sister. Alex tensed up but quickly moved past him, walking out into the kitchen.

"What? How would I know anything about that?" She cringed, knowing that it couldn't be any good news to come from them knowing what she did. She grabbed her phone from the counter and scrolled through the messages Hoyt had texted her the night before.

"Cut the shit, Al. I went to the Rattray's last night to buy some pot. They said you and Sookie beat the shit out of them. You pepper sprayed the fuck out of Denise." Hoyt casually made his way over to the refrigerator, plucking the last beer from the door. Jason pursed his lips, quickly snatching it from his hands and putting it back in the fridge.

"Did you get your weed?" Alex grinned, hopping up on the counter and crossing her legs. She knew damn well she wasn't telling them anything of the previous night and she hoped Sookie wouldn't either. Jason glared at her and shook his head.

His hand darted to grab his keys and he gave her one last glare before heading to the door.  "I'm going to talk to the good sister."

"Yeah I did, but I had to drive them both to the hospital. You owe me one." Hoyt pointed a finger at her and she smirked. He reached into the fridge once again, taking the beer.

Alexandra frowned, tapping her steering wheel with her freshly manicured fingernails. She was sitting in the parking lot of Fangtasia, which was unbelievably stupid considering her run in with the tall blonde vampire last night. She had been there for a good fifteen minutes, dazing in and out of her phone. She was sending a text to Sookie but jumped when there was a hard knock on her window. She looked up with wide eyes to see a blonde woman with a scowl on her face.

The woman looked to be young, but Alexandra knew she wasn't too young. The paleness of her skin and her cold, dead eyes told her that the woman standing at her window wasn't alive. Alex glanced at her for a moment, noticing the hot pink leather straps that were wrapped around her neck, it was threatening to say the least.

Alex rolled down her window, placing a sheepish smile upon her face. "Can I help you?" She asked, keeping her hand down on the silver keychain she had in her console.

The woman rolled her eyes, "You can't loiter here. Either come in, or go away. I would rather you join me inside though, I'm sure someone would get a kick out of your pretty face. I'm Pam." She drawled, her southern accent slipping through the cracks of her sarcasm. Alex was a little taken aback by the woman's forwardness, but if being immortal didn't give you any shame then what the hell would?

Alex furrowed her eyebrows, and she rolled her window back up. Her hand moved to switch her car off, and she reached for the handle of her door, pushing it open slightly.

"I came back here to get an explanation." Alex muttered glancing Pam, who was walking beside her. She figured she would ease the silence by making a snippet of conversation. Alex loved to entertain. Pam let her blue eyes glance over to Alex and she stifled a laugh.

"An explanation? Oh honey, what would you need that for?" She questioned and Alex looked over at her with a slight smirk. Pam opened the door for her and Alex stride in, ignoring all the humans and vampires dry humping everywhere.

"Eric." Alex looked up to see him sitting up on his throne. She lifted her hand up enough for Pam to get the gist. A smirk graced his face when his eyes caught her gaze, he waved his hand motioning her over. Pam gave a dark chuckle and she slithered an arm around the small of Alex's back.

"So you're the lucky lady." She commented. Alex froze slightly but walked with her, ignoring the glances she got from everyone.

"Alexandra." He welcomed, his eyes scouring her figure. Alex shifted uncomfortably, and she gave him a frown. She wondered how on earth he had figured out her name, but then she realized she was still wearing her work shirt, her name was clearly printed in dark green.

"Well don't be shy, have a seat." His hand extended out, like he was going to shake it. Alex was extremely cautious, seeing as yesterday his grip put a bruise on her arm, it was even peeking out slightly from her white shirt. Alex slowly raised her hand up, laying it gently onto his.

They didn't lose eye contact as he slowly brought her hand up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss upon her knuckles. His touch sent chills all over Alex's body and she cleared her throat, jerking her hand away. She dropped down in the chair beside him and her eyes wandered around the club.

"So last night wasn't the best. I want you to explain why you scared me shitless." She glared at Eric who glanced at Pam, his eyebrows raising up at how comfortable she seemed talking to a vampire like that. Alex furrowed her eyebrows, looking between Eric and Pam. They were speaking a different language that Alex didn't know at all.

"Well I hate to break up this amazing conversation, but if you don't have anything to say to me in English then I better go!" She awkwardly smiled, going to stand up when she was pulled back down into her chair.

"Not so fast," Pam placed two hands on her shoulders and used her strength to keep Alex still. She was getting ready to try and leave again when her phone went off, making her jump, she pulled it out of her purse, looking up at Pam, almost searching for permission. She gave her a slight nod Alex flipped open her cell phone, "Hello?"

"Did you know Jason got arrested?" Sookie was yelling, "Maudette Pickens was found dead, and they think Jason murdered her." Alex's heart stopped and the two vampires both noticed it.

"I'm in Shreveport, I'll be home in 30 minutes, and you're gonna tell be what the hell is going on." She slammed her phone shut, looking between the two blondes. "Yeah, I gotta go. Human emergency." She tried to stand up again, this time, Pam didn't stop her.

Alex turned before she walked down to the main floor, "This conversation isn't finished." Eric almost chuckled at her stern look. The corner of Pam's lips twitched up as she watched the young girl practically run out of the bar. Any other time Pam would've probably fucked and killed her, but she noticed that Alex had the wild spirit that reminded Pam of herself.

-

Alex turned the doorknob to the back door of Merlotte's. She entered the establishment, going through the hallway only to see Sam gripping Sookie's arm tightly, dragging her to the back.

"Sookie! You're being a very stupid girl!" Sam whispered, harshly raising his finger and pointing it into her face.

Alex furrowed her eyebrows and she quickly walked over, placing a hand on Sam's shoulder to push him back slightly. "What's going on?" They didn't even seem to acknowledge her presence.

"Who asked you Sam? I can take care of myself!" Sookie argued, glaring at the scruffy haired man in front of her. Sam huffed, whipping out the keys to his office and he unlocked it.

"I don't think so! Mack could've cut y'all up last night!" Sam looked between Alex and Sookie. Alex squirmed under his gaze and she frowned when he shoved Sookie in his office and slammed the door.

Alex quickly walked into the bar room, she narrowed her eyes when she spotted Hoyt and René laughing and having a ball without their best friend. Alex scowled. How can they act like this when Jase is locked up? She thought.

Hoyt lined up his cue, stripes was winning and he cursed to himself as he thought of his options. He was getting ready to pull the cue back and hit the white ball when the long stick was ripped out of his hands. "Fortenberry, I'm gonna give you three seconds 'til you tell me what happened to my brother." Hoyt's eyes widened, he glanced at René who clicked his tongue.

René leaned his pool cue on the table, walking over to wrap an arm around Alex. He gave her a chaste kiss on her forehead. "Aw, cher, we already told Sookie. Might as well give you the pleasure."

Lafayette was the first to speak, telling Alex that Bud Dearborn and Andy Bellefleur came and carted Jason away. Hoyt made sure to mention that they didn't cuff him. Alex chewed on her bottom lip as they told the story. Her dumbass brother Jason Stackhouse couldn't kill anyone, certainly not Maudette Pickens.

Arlene gave Alex a small pity smile, tossing her back in reality. She reached over to hug her. "Honey it's gonna be alright! Everyone knows Jason didn't do anything!" Behind Alex's back Arlene made a noticeable cringe face at René and he shrugged.

"I'm gonna go home and see if Jason is there, if not I'm going to the Sheriff's Department." Alex waved goodbye to everyone and walked out the door. Clutching her purse tight and her hand gripped the pepper spray that was in her pocket. Could never be too careful.

-

When Alex realized Jason wasn't at the house, she pulled off and sped to the police department. She quickly shifted the Chevy into park and slammed the door, marching in.

"Bud Dearborn, where the hell is my brother at?" She tapped her fingers on the counter, squinting her eyes at the old man before her. He ran a hand over his face, sighing. Andy Bellefleur stood behind him, scowling.

"We let him go. Just took him in for questioning, Alexandra. No reason to cause a big fuss, he's probably on his way home now." Sheriff Dearborne explained but that wasn't enough for Alex.

"Have you met my brother? Do you know how tiny his brain is?" Her accent was thick but her courage to stand up to the Sheriff of Bon Temps was thicker. "Or is your brain tiny? You and Andy can't get your heads out of your asses and realize that the killer is probably right in front of you. And not my brother." The older men were shocked but didn't even have time to say anything back before they saw her walk out the door.
