"So, you didn't find the stone?" Fēn beamed behind her eccentric mask.
"I decided not to," Yue sighed, hovering a hand above a dying tulip. Slowly, the flower regained its original state back.
"What did you tell your brother then?"
"Nothing, I didn't even tell him we're siblings. He might not be able to take everything in yet."
Fēn suddenly materialized in front of Yue in the form of white butterflies. "Hmm... so, what's your plan? Eventually, he'd find out. There are a lot of ways for him to regain his memories back, just like how you did, and since you, two, are siblings, I won't be surprised he'd find one right away."
"I don't know yet," Yue's eyes drew down the misted dandelions. "I'm glad I met him, that he's also been brought back to life, but I still couldn't feel any changes in my emotions. I only felt lonelier."
"You've been reanimated that way... prohibited to feel any other emotions other than loneliness."
Yue met Fēn's eyes. Although they aren't that visible, she could tell they were purple. "Do you think my other siblings and my parents were also reanimated?"
For a moment, Fēn wished she didn't visit her, but she needs to. "The last thing that I'd expect from you is an interrogation and I don't have any idea, honestly. I don't even know anything about mine, let alone yours."
"Didn't you try?"
Fēn placed the white staff on her shoulder and leaned onto it. "Let's just say, I chose to focus on what's currently on my plate. Being a soul guardian is already a pain; knowing my past might already turn me into a demon."
"Alright, calm down. I was just asking," Yue placed a finger in front when Fēn's voice slowly became audible.
Suddenly, Fēn dashed beside Yue and wrapped an arm around hers. "Say, do you have anything to do tonight? Other than talking to the moon."
Yue shook her head and even if she couldn't see Fēn's face, she could tell she was grinning.
"Do you wanna come with us?"
"Who's us?"
"With my friends. We're going to the human realm to have fun. It's perfect for you since you can take the form of a human."
"Fēn," Yue sighed, removing her arm, and took a step away. "You said it yourself, I'm reanimated only to feel loneliness. What's the point of me tugging along with you and your friends to have fun?"
"Well," Fēn scratched the side of her mask. "We're on, you know, what humans call a day off, so we are prohibited to use portals to travel. I saw you last time being carried by your wind. So, maybe..."
"Just when I thought you are just being friendly," Yue's facial expression naturally stayed neutral, but anyone could hear the sarcasm in her voice. "But, I don't mind. Let's get going."
Indeed, Yue took Fēn and her friends to the human realm located in China where an event is currently celebrated, Chinese New Year. Since Yue is the only one who could turn into a human, she's the only one who could talk to them while the others just stayed close to her.
Along the crowded street where a lot of vendors sell charms such as necklaces, rings, and ornaments; Yue's attention has been taken by a Feng Shui Beckoning Cat. She moved closer and was about to touch it when a man in his forties stood beside her.
"Hello, young lady," he beamed. "I've never seen such a pretty face as yours. Perhaps, have you seen anything that you like? I'll give it to you for free."
Yue only stared at the man, glanced at the Feng Shui, and back at him. "I don't think so, but thank you," she was about to leave when the man spoke again.
"H-How about a tattoo?" He stuttered.
Yue didn't speak; she looked at Fēn for an answer, but she just shrugged. None of them knows what a tattoo is.
Curious, Yue moved closer back to the man, hoping he'd make it clear; however, instead of doing so, he only led her inside his small tent just behind the tables where he displays the charms he sell.
"You may sit here," the man offered the most elegant seat he has and went to take something in the drawer on the corner.
"I'm sorry, but what's a tattoo?" Yue had to ask before sitting down. Fēn didn't come with her inside as she was enjoying the most human things she could do with her friends outside.
"Hmm..." the man turned back at her, plastering a genuine smile. "Well, it's one of the most beautiful things you could do to your body," he dragged a saddle seat beside Yue and sat down. "I don't casually invite customers here in my tent and give them tattoos; however, the sparkles that I've been looking for in someone's eyes... I've seen them in yours."
Despite his long explanation, none of those words were able to answer her question; nonetheless, since he appears ready for what he was trying to do with--with a gem on hand for who-knows-why--after a couple of monologues she had in her mind, Yue agreed to get that tattoo.
She watched the man place the stone on her right hand and suddenly, a colorful light flourished from it. As someone who had seen so much mystery, Yue's eyes still grew in circles when a mark appeared on her wrist.
"Yin-Yang..." she muttered and lifted her head to find herself standing in a space that appears to be the realm of the legendary creatures. One by one, the critters appeared before her very eyes.
"The Eternals," Yue gasped, eyes wobbling in surprise.
"At last," the enormous eternal nine-tailed fox growled, walking past the eternal phoenix, viper, and stallion which were burning in eternal flames—as they should.
Yue's neck almost got twisted just to meet the creature eye to eye.
"The chosen has finally come."
