"Asawa?! Since when did I become your damn wife, huh?!"
I crossed my arms over my chest, raising my brow while Sevi was in front of me, leaning against the countertop like a lost, guilty puppy. He massaged the bridge of his nose, getting frustrated and annoyed.
"Hindi ko alam sasabihin ko, okay?" He looked at me.
"Wala na bang iba?!" reklamo ko ulit.
"Ano pala? Girlfriend? Alam nila na wala akong girlfriend dahil kakatanong lang nila noong isang araw. Panty at bra mo nakasabit sa condo ko. Ano'ng sasabihin ko? Fuck buddy?" he argued more.
"Okay na 'yon kaysa asawa?!" I yelled at him.
"Kawawa naman reputasyon ko 'no. Conservative ako." He playfully hugged himself with his arms. He wasn't taking it seriously anymore!
"Who would believe you?! Asawa? Wala ka ngang wedding ring!" I pointed at his hand.
"Eh di bibili!" He said like it was that easy.
I scoffed in disbelief. He looked like he didn't really care where it was going. I pouted and rolled my eyes. Bahala siya. Hindi naman nila 'ko kilala! Sevi could do whatever he wanted.
"You should have just said girlfriend, you know? You won't need any proof. Kapag asawa, nasaan ang wedding pictures? Marriage contract? Wedding date?" I raised a brow.
"Bakit ba apektado ka, hindi naman ikaw 'yong gigisahin sa trabaho? Ako na bahala. Babawiin ko na lang." He rolled his eyes, pagod nang makipagtalo sa akin.
"What will you say?" paghahamon ko.
"Fubu." The side of his lips rose.
"Oh, so your fubu washes her clothes in your condo, huh?" I rolled my eyes again before walking away.
"Ang dami mong reklamo, eh di sabihin ko na sa ex ko 'yon. Okay na?" He sarcastically laughed before going inside the study room.
The Netflix account was his, but it became ours when we were still together. Sa card niya naka-connect ang bill.
Who's watching?
Engineer | Sebastian | Vincent | Camero | Parasite Ex
I rolled my eyes again and clicked the 'Parasite Ex' profile. That was me, of course. He changed it just a few minutes ago! 'Elyse' naman ang nakalagay dati! I hate him so much.
"Immature," I whispered while picking a movie to watch.
I watched until the sky went dark. I thought Sevi would leave because he promised his friends na susunod siya sa inuman but I guess he just bailed on them. What a man of word!
I was still glaring at him when he left the study room to find something to cook. He glanced at me and raised his brows, hinahamon ang tingin ko. I heard him scoff sarcastically before closing the fridge.
"Ledezma, halika nga rito!" He called from the kitchen.
"What now?!" inis na sabi ko.
I paused the movie before walking towards him.
He pointed at the raw meat placed on the sink. "Ako na lang palagi."
"Duh! I usually don't eat dinner! Ikaw lang ang nagpupumilit kumain! You're matakaw kasi!" I pushed his tummy lightly but stopped when I felt his muscles there. I moved my hand away immediately.
"Ba't hinahawakan mo abs ko?" He chuckled, placing his hand on his stomach.
"Ew..." I rolled my eyes. "Fine. I'll cook, but go away. Leave! I can't concentrate!"
"Paano ka makaka-concentrate? 'Yang matang 'yan, kitang-kita kong nakatitig sa katawan ko kanina. Sabihin mong hindi?"
"Hindi." I glared at him.
"Oh?" He stepped forward and held the hem of his shirt. He slowly took it off in front of me, showing his body. I swallowed hard, not wanting to give in.
My eyes widened when he suddenly walked closer to me. I stepped backwards and leaned against the countertop to stay far away from him. He placed both of his hands on my sides and raised his brows at me, watching my reaction.
My lips parted, trying my best not to look below his face. He moved closer to me until his lips were just inches away from mine. He looked down at my lips before staring at my eyes again. I swallowed hard, unable to talk.
"Ano?" he whispered.
His biceps were flexed, and his grip on the countertop was so tight I could see his veins. I looked away and pushed him lightly on his chest. Come on, Elyse! Get back to your senses! Kaya mo 'to!
"Piss off, dumbass," taas-noong sabi ko sa kaniya.
He laughed a little before letting me go. He went inside the study room like nothing had happened, leaving me breathless. I inhaled a large amount of air and held my chest to calm myself down. What the hell was that?! Muntik na akong bumigay roon, ah!
I cooked pork chop because it was the easiest. I just waited for the rice cooker to beep before placing the food on the table. I didn't bother calling Sevi inside the study room anymore. I was about to finish my food when he went out of the room and saw me eating.
"Wow, ah. Ayos," he sarcastically said. His face screamed betrayal.
"You're going to wash the dishes." I smirked, standing up to place my plate on the sink.
I was even having fun because I felt so independent doing it until I noticed something. My eyes widened when it left a burn on the sleeves.
"Hala, nasunog..." I covered my mouth a little, placing the iron on the side.
I muttered a curse before silently folding it, hiding the sleeves. Oh my gosh, ano'ng gagawin ko rito?! Sevi will get so mad!
I bit my lower lip and turned the iron off before slowly walking into the study room. I knocked on the door to get Sevi's attention. He was looking at a 3D model of a building. I was so nervous to talk!
He looked at me, so I gave him a cute smile before slowly placing the neatly folded shirt on his table. I made a peace sign before running away and locking myself inside the bedroom. I closed my eyes and waited for his yell.
"Elyse!" I heard his frustrated shout from the study room like he was ready to hunt me down.
"I'm sorry!" I wanted to cry inside the bedroom, standing beside the door. "I didn't adjust the heat! I didn't know, okay?!"
He knocked on the door which made me jump. "Una, ginawa mong bughaw, tapos ngayon sinamahan mo pa ng sunog. Ano ba? Galit ka ba sa 'kin, ha?"
"Hindi ko sinasadya, promise!" I pouted, though he couldn't see me. "I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry! I can pay for a new one!"
"Dios mio, por favor!" he hissed before walking away.
I sighed heavily when I heard the closing of the door. I slowly went outside the bedroom to get my clothes.
After that, I did my night care routine, wearing my maroon nighties. I went straight to bed to have my beauty sleep.
I woke up around six-thirty when I heard my alarm. I turned it off and went inside the bathroom to wash my face before leaving the bedroom. I was expecting Sevi to be gone, so I was surprised to see him leaving the bathroom, wearing his uniform I messed up with, partnered with a pair of maong pants. I bit my lower lip when I saw the slight burn on the sleeves.
"Your uniform is... Uhm... better in blue." I gave him an awkward smile.
He rolled his eyes before getting his things, ready to leave the unit. I pouted and whispered consoling words to myself while getting my yogurt inside the fridge.
"I'm sorry na nga, eh," I whispered.
"Alis na 'ko," he said in a monotone.
"Take care! I'll see you later!" I gave him a wide smile, but he just closed the door on me.
I finished my yogurt before taking a shower and brushing my teeth. I was wearing a sky-blue two-piece suit with a white blouse inside, partnered with my silver heels and blue handbag. I tied my hair in a bun and put on minimal makeup before leaving the unit.
"Alice, 'yong perfume set ko?" I asked before entering the office.
"Ito na po, Madam!" She picked up a paper bag and handed it to me. "And also, dumating na rin po ang dalawang limited-edition bag na in-order n'yo last month!"
"Omg!" I smiled before getting two more boxes. "Thank you! To my office, please!"
I placed the boxes on my desk. I listened to my schedule for today while sniffing the perfume. I waved it in the air before smelling it.
I sprayed the other on my right wrist and the other near my arm. I had to take my coat off.
"Alice!" I called again. "Can you smell these, please? Ano 'yong pinakamabango? I can't tell the difference." I showed her my wrists.
She looked up, thinking. Maybe she also got confused. It was hard to tell the difference.
"Oh my gosh, hindi kaya they scammed me?" I raised my brows.
"Ay, hindi naman, Madam! Mabango 'tong nasa left side! Promise!" She pointed at my right wrist. "Final answer!"
I went back to my seat and tried to smell it again. I read some documents before signing them. Then I attended a meeting with a business partner. After that, dumeretso na 'ko sa board room para sa isa pang meeting with the managers. About lang sa resort in Batangas.
I entered the room holding two food containers because I forgot to eat my lunch on time. I saw Sevi in his Valeria uniform, talking with the Operations head. I pouted before gesturing for them to sit down.
We started with the agenda. I tried to listen carefully, but I was still bothered by the smell of the perfume. Some employees were already looking at me, getting weirded out because I kept on smelling my wrists.
They just discussed the adjustments. They added more workers to speed up the construction and also adjusted the budget and calendar. I was just nodding all along until Alice went inside to give us snacks.
"Let's take a break. I need to eat," I announced.
I stood up and walked towards the other side of the room to get myself a glass of water while everyone was busy discussing something.
"Engineer, ano'ng nangyari sa uniform mo?" I heard an employee from Valeria.
"Ah, wala, nasunog, eh." Sevi showed them the sleeves. "Hayaan n'yo na."
"Nakakatawa naman, Engineer. Sino bang namalantsa niyan? Hindi ka naman ganyan." A guy laughed.
"Oo nga, eh. Sino ba?" Sevi suddenly glared at me.
I looked away and sipped on my glass of water. Nakakainis naman siya! Hindi ko naman sinasadya, eh!
I was about to leave when Sevi suddenly appeared by my side to get water. I placed my elbow on the pantry shelf, glaring at him the whole time.
"I have a question," I said.
"Ano?" he asked without looking at me. Ang suplado!
"Can you smell my wrists, please?" I took my coat off so he could also smell the other one on my arm.
"Ano ba 'yan?" His brows furrowed as he placed his tumbler back on the table. "Kanina pa 'yan, ah. Kanina mo pa 'yan inaamoy-amoy."
"Oh, you saw?" I giggled. "I bought a perfume set, but I couldn't tell the difference. Try mo nga."
I showed him my wrists. He sighed before holding my left wrist to sniff it. Then, the other side. His brows furrowed, trying to think. See?! He was confused too!
"Here! May isa pa." I pointed to the spot near my elbow.
"Ano ba 'yan," reklamo niya pero hinawakan niya rin ang braso ko para amuyin. Nagreklamo pa, gagawin din pala.
"U-uhm, Miss Ledezma, Engineer Camero," Alice called.
Sabay kaming tumingin sa kaniya. My eyes widened when I realized that almost everyone in the room was already looking at us. We looked so weird! He was holding my arm and smelling it! What the heck!
I looked away and got my glass of water, pretending that nothing happened.
"Let's continue, please." I walked back to my seat.
I had no choice but to eat during the meeting. My face heated up from embarrassment. Nakakahiya, ano ba 'yon?! I didn't notice how the room went silent because of us.
After the meeting, I couldn't look at Sevi anymore.
"I was waiting for you." He said and held my arm.
"Why?" I stepped sideways so I wouldn't block the door. "You should have just waited inside my office."
"Do you want to have dinner together? I know a nice restaurant." He gave me a smile. "My treat!"
"Oh, damn..." I looked at my phone to check the date. "It's your birthday, right?!"
"Yeah," he smiled shyly and scratched his head a little. "I thought you forgot."
I nodded and just agreed to the dinner since it was his birthday. I looked away from him when Sevi passed by. He was holding a folder on his hand while talking to another guy. I gave Austin a pat on the shoulder before walking back to my office.
It was around six in the evening when Austin and I left the office to have dinner with his dad at the nearest restaurant. We were talking about business while eating. Wala na kaming ibang pag-uusapan, eh.
"If only your dad agreed to the marriage between you and Austin, you would have been married by now with two kids." His dad laughed.
I felt awkward, so I just gave him a smile. "You think so, Tito?"
"Of course. You two would make a great couple. Hindi ka pa ba pino-pormahan ni Austin?" His brows furrowed.
"We're just friends." I sipped on my wine.
"What a slow man, Austin. Are you really my son?" His dad let out a laugh. I was getting uncomfortable.
"I'm taking it slow." Austin smiled at his dad. "I don't want Elyse to feel overwhelmed."
My brows furrowed while eating, not liking where the conversation was headed to. I had no plans on marrying Austin or even liking him back. I wanted to stay single for now.
"I can grow old single, Tito." I smiled. "No plans on marriage yet."
"What? You can't be single forever, Elyse." He shook his head. "The company would need an heir or heiress."
"I'm still young," I said, getting more and more uncomfortable with the topic. "And, of course, I can stay single forever. A woman is not made to be a slave of love."
"Dad, just stop it. Let's just eat," Austin said to cut the conversation.
I stayed quiet until we finished eating. Tito Anthony had to go home early so naiwan ako kay Austin. He asked if we could have a few drinks since the night was still young. I agreed. Mukhang kailangan ko nga munang mag-relax.
I took my car and just followed him to a high-end bar around the place. It wasn't like a club where the sound was too loud that you couldn't talk to your friends. This was something chill. May music, pero hindi gaanong malakas. There were tables, but we chose to sit at the counter. I could see some familiar faces. Mga businessmen and politicians.
"Margarita," I told the bartender.
"I'm sorry about my dad. He was just itching to have a grandchild." He gave me an apologetic smile.
"Yeah, it's fine." I gave him a small smile.
I already had three cocktails and six shots of tequila when a random guy approached me. He sat beside me and offered me a drink while Austin was in the restroom. I smiled at him, obviously drunk. He was becoming blurry in my vision.
"You like me, don't you?" I pointed at his face.
"You're wasted, Elyse." The guy laughed.
I blinked twice until my vision went clearer. My eyes widened when I saw Hiro's brother in front of me.
"Sorry, I didn't recognize you, Haze." I awkwardly laughed. That was so embarrassing. "I'm so drunk, damn."
"Here." He slid a glass of water. It was the drink he was offering earlier. It was just water. "You need to go-"
"Oh my god, Austin!" I yelled when he suddenly grabbed Haze's collar.
I tried to go in between them but Austin wouldn't let go of him. Haze was just looking at him calmly with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Get the fuck out of my face, kid." Haze laughed a little, teasing Austin more.
"Austin! Let's go home!" I pulled him away, getting my bag. I still felt so dizzy, and my vision was a little blurry, but I tried my best to walk straight just to drag him out of the bar.
"Kid?! Fuck you, man!" Austin yelled in the parking lot, kicking a stone.
"Why the hell would you do that?!" I yelled. "Fuck, my head is spinning."
I leaned against my car and held my head. I looked at the time. It was almost midnight! Ang tagal ko na palang umiinom doon. Kailangan ko nang umuwi!
"Do you like that guy?!" Austin held my arm.
"What?! No!" I pushed him away. "Why the hell do you care so much?! Haze is a friend of my brother!"
"Why do I care so much? Hindi ba sinabi ko na sa 'yo noon na gusto kita?!" He was still shouting. It was making my head hurt. "You were flirting with him!"
"I wasn't flirting with him! What the fuck are you on?!" I held my head again and looked down at my phone when I saw it ringing.
"If you want to flirt, just flirt with me, for fuck's sake! Ano pa b'ang hinihintay mo?" Austin scoffed.
That was disgusting, but I was more focused on the call. Sevi was calling!
"I'm going to take this call." I turned my back on him.
[Nasaan ka?] I heard Sevi's voice.
"I'm in Exclusive," I answered.
"Elyse, you like me, right?" Austin tried to take my phone away.
"You're drunk." I shook my head and put my phone inside my bag so he wouldn't get his hand on it. "You need to go home. Call your driver. You're making my head hurt. Damn."
I closed my eyes and massaged my head, hoping the spinning would stop. I heard Austin kicking some rocks, so I opened my eyes again. He looked back at me and held my wrist to pull me closer to him.
"What?" I asked, getting weak now.
"You like me, right?" he asked again, desperate.
"You're my friend." I nodded.
I tried to push him away when he hugged me tightly. He was whispering something to me, but I was too drunk to understand. I heard the words 'love,' 'marry,' 'like,' and other bullshit. I put my hand on his chest to push him away again.
"Let me go!" I successfully got away from his embrace. I glared at him and took my car keys out so I could leave.
I realized that I couldn't drive, so I went back and got Austin's phone out of his pocket so I could call his driver. I still didn't want him to end up in an accident. After that, I sat on the hood of my car, waiting for his driver. Austin was sitting on the floor, holding his head in frustration.
"Hey, nandiyan na driver mo." I kicked him a little so he would get up.
He stood up and looked at their car before walking towards me. My eyes widened when he put his hands on my side, cornering me.
"A birthday kiss," he whispered. "Kahit 'yon lang, Eli..."
"You're just drunk." I pushed him away. I was starting to get scared! "Go home."
"Please, please!" He shouted and held my face forcefully.
"Austin, what the hell-" I stopped talking when he suddenly gave me a hug instead of a kiss. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"Give me a chance," he whispered, crying. "A chance, Elyse... Just a chance to prove myself to you. Please. I like you so much. You know that already, right?"
"Austin, I'm sorry, but..."
I immediately pushed him away when I saw Sevi leaning against his car, watching us. He looked at me with no emotion in his eyes. I panicked and left Austin so I could go to him. He just gestured for me to go inside his car without saying anything.
I looked at my car. I'll just ask Kuya Roel to get it. I couldn't drive right now.
Sevi was quiet the whole ride. I bit my lower lip, trying to find a topic so we could talk. I adjusted the aircon and shifted on my seat uncomfortably. Sevi didn't bother to give me a single glance. His eyes were in front, and his brows were furrowed a bit. His grip on the steering wheel was so tight that I could see his veins.
"I didn't notice that you called me thrice," I said, giving him an awkward smile.
He did not talk. He just gave me a nod.
"Do you have water? I need to sober up," I asked.
He pointed at the bottle of water placed in between us. I inhaled a large amount of air and looked around, making little noises so it wouldn't be too quiet inside the car.
"It was Austin's birthday," I told him.
"Oh, tapos?" He raised a brow.
What did I do to him? Was it because of the polo?!
"W-we had dinner with his dad, and then we went out for drinks. I also saw Hiro's brother! Have you met him?" I asked again.
He just looked at me for a moment before looking back at the road.
"Right, you're not close. Uhmm..." I played with my hands. "Thanks for picking me up. I was about to book grab. Good thing you know that bar! Malapit lang kasi sa condo, right?"
He didn't answer, so I pouted and sighed heavily. "Are you mad at me?" My brows furrowed.
"Hindi," maikling sagot niya.
"Okay..." I nodded and smiled like a kid. "That's good. I thought you were mad at me. Phew..."
I stalked him from behind, trying to walk straight. I was already a little sober, so I had the strength to take a shower and brush my teeth. I wore a black night dress and put on my silk robe before getting out of the room to get myself a glass of water.
Sevi entered the bedroom and closed it loudly, which made me jump a little. Right, it was already his turn in the bedroom. I held my chest and finished a glass of water before going inside the bedroom to get my pillow.
I saw Sevi sitting at the edge of the bed, texting. I slowly walked towards him and bent down to get my pillow and blanket.
"Dito ka na matulog," he said without looking at me.
"What? No, I'm fine. It's your turn. I can sleep in the study-" I stopped talking when he stood up and left the room.
I blinked twice before placing the pillow and my blanket back on the bed. I tiptoed my way out of the room to look for him. I saw him enter the study room, so I followed him and opened it slightly, just enough to peek.
I saw him sitting on his swivel chair, looking at the screen. He was working. He had a pencil in his hand and an empty piece of paper.
I returned to the room to bring my pillow and blanket before entering the study room. He looked at me with his brows furrowed when I placed the pillow on the mini-bed beside him.
"I'll sleep here." I sat on the bed and gave him a cute smile.
He nodded and suddenly turned the monitor off. He stood up and left the room, taking his pencil and paper with him. My lips parted in shock. What the hell did I do to him?! Why was he being weird?!
He was there, sitting on the couch, sketching something on the coffee table.
"You're mad at me," I concluded.
"Alis diyan," he calmly said, holding the door knob.
"No." I shook my head. "You're acting so weird. Why are you giving me the silent treatment? You're really mad at me."
"May trabaho pa 'ko, Amora," seryosong sabi niya.
"Amora..." I scoffed. "Why are you calling me by my first name now, Sebastian?" I emphasized.
He pulled the door knob, so I was forced to step aside. I pouted and sat beside him.
"Bakit ba sunod ka nang sunod?" he asked, getting annoyed.
"You're mad at me," sabi ko ulit. It was so obvious! Why can't he just admit it?!
"Hindi nga ako galit," he hissed.
"Then why are you saying it that way?" reklamo ko sa kaniya.
"Ah, paano ba dapat?" He faced me. "Elyse, hindi ako galit sa 'yo. Sana makatulog ka nang maayos. Sana masarap ang ulam mo bukas at sana hindi mauntog hinliliit mo sa gilid ng lamesa habang-buhay," he exaggerated.
"You're being sarcastic now!" I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Anak ng pating," he whispered, massaging his head.
"Just admit that you're mad at me, okay?!" I stood up and raised a brow. "Now I'm completely sober because of your attitude!"
He shook his head and ignored me. He pretended that he was sketching something, but he was just shading with his pencil like a damn kid. I sighed heavily and pulled my hair in frustration. He was stressing me out.
"Are you jealous?" I tilted my head a little to the right.
I finally got his attention with my question.
"Ako?" He scoffed.
"Why? Are you seeing someone else here?" I replied sarcastically.
"Bakit ako magseselos do'n? Ang pangit-pangit no'n." He rolled his eyes. Nanglait pa! He can just say no!
"What?" I can't help but let out a laugh. He sounded like a kid. "So kapag gwapo, magseselos ka? Right? That's what you're saying right now?"
"Kaka-inom mo 'yan." He shook his head and stood up to walk away again.
"He was asking me to give him a chance," I said, which made him stop walking. "Should I give him a chance?"
"Gawin mo ang gusto mo, Elyse. Wala akong pakialam." He swallowed hard.
I turned to him and raised a brow. "You think I should?"
"Oo naman. Bagay kayo." He gave me a small smile before walking away.
