01 || Pookie
Brooklyn's P.O.V.
"Hey Brooke," the gang yells as I walk in.
"Hello boys," I smile as I walk over to Ponyboy sitting next to him with a smile on my face. I've liked Ponyboy since we were little kids, everybody knows I like him and tells me he likes me, but I don't know.
"Hey Brookie," Pony smiles as he looks over to me winking.
"Hey Pookie," I smirk using the nickname I gave him when we were little kids after he called me Brookie.
"Aweee," Soda coos as he sits next to me. "Look at the two love birds!"
"Shut up!" I roll my eyes in annoyance.
"Whatever lovers," he snickers.
"Where's your princess Sandy?" I ask making kissy faces at him. Soda and I have always been super close.
"At a lake with her family," he shrugs.
"Fun," I say in a fake peppy voice. Johnny looks up at me with pleading eyes as he begs me to talk to me. "Johnnycakes wanna go for a walk with me?"
"Sure thing Brooke," he smiles widely.
"Hey Jones!" Winston calls me.
I look over to him smirking Dally and I have a complicated past. We both liked each other, but it was a secret and we never told anybody. We've kissed a few times and been on a few dates. We were official, but it couldn't get out considering at the time I thirteen and he was seventeen. I know what they think about him and with his attraction to me it would get worse. Well he cheated on me with this girl Sylvia, they're dating now. We try to remain civil, but everybody knows we HATE each other, "what do you want Winston?"
"Keep Johnny safe ya hear?" He calls.
"I ain't gonna let nothing touch Johnny now lay off Winston," I say as I slam the door walking out.
"What ever happened to you and Dally?" Johnny asks.
"He's an ass," I shrug.
"Ya'll used to be best friends," he reminds me.
"We got into a fight," I sort of half lie, half tell the truth. We did get into a fight, but it was so much more.
flashback
"What the hell was that Dallas?" I ask Dally angrily.
"I was drunk," he shrugs like it was no big deal.
"God Dallas after everything we've been through," I sigh holding back tears. "You-you cheat on me. That's the way you choose to end things by leaving me due to cheating. I trusted you."
"Please don't be like this," he begs. "It was a mistake."
"A stupid one. I loved you Dallas. God, I gave you everything," I say as I break into sobs.
"Not everything," he winks.
"Sicko!" I yell at him. "You're almost eighteen!"
"That's not the way you felt yesterday!"
"Whatever...Winston!"
"Oh so now I've been demoted once again. I've went from love to baby to babe to Dall to Dally to Dallas to Winston! I don't ever care anymore Jones."
"Whatever Winston, just NEVER talk to me EVER again! I-I-I-I-I-"
"I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I," he mocks.
I take a deep breathe before spitting out, "I hate you!"
"Then just go Jones!" He yells as he points to the door.
"Fine!" I yell as I rip off the heart necklace he gave me storming out the door slamming it behind me. "I hate you! I hate you Winston!"
Flashback over
"It was easier when ya'll were best friends," Johnny sighs.
"I miss when we were best friends," I admit. "I hate him, I do trust me, but there's always gonna be that one part of me that loves and misses him."
"I remember when ya'll were always sitting next to each other, smiling, you were always giggling as he flirted with you, he always had his arm around you or you were on his back, ya'll we always joking, and ya'll were always happy around each other," he smiles making me smile a little bit thinking back to when we were together.
"We had a great friendship," I smile. We had a great run. We tried, but he cheated now we're strangers with the same friends.
"What 'bout Pony? You catching feeling for him yet?" Johnny questions smiling as he looks over to me.
"I don't know," I shrug as I blush looking down.
"You've had things with so many people in the gang," he reminds me. "Minus Ponyboy, because you don't want to mess things up with him."
"You're wise Johnnycakes," I smile as I look at him.
"We've even had a thing," he blushes as our eyes connect.
I touch my lips letting it linger on my bottom lip as I remember the kiss, "I remember."
"On 4/4/64 at 4:44 A.M. as the sun rose above the park where we both camping out that night after you got beat by your parents and my folks were fighting," he smirks. Truth, Johnny was my first love and you always will love your first love. I love Ponyboy, but he's not my first love.
"We were each other first love," I smile as we loop back to the Curtis house.
"We had a good run Brookie," he smiles.
"Swings," I start the list.
"Sunsets," he continues.
"Camps."
"Running from Tulsa."
"Planning the future."
"Promises."
"Beach walks."
"Parks."
"Late night snacks."
"Movie nights."
"Lakes."
"Camping with the Gang."
"Secrets."
"Hiding."
"Games."
"Love," Johnny ends the list.
"We were the perfect pair and I'm happy you were my first love," I confess.
"I'm happy you were my first love too," he says as he grabs my hand.
"I love you Johnny William Cade."
"I love you too Brooklyn Ann Smith."
I turn to him and smile as we walk into the Curtis house still holding hands.
"Aweee!" Two-bit yells slurring his words as he chugs down the rest of his beer. "Are the two lovebirds back together?"
"We all knew this day would come little Brookie," Steve says as he slings his arm around me."The secrets out."
Ponyboy looks at me with hurt eyes then to Johnny his eyes blazing with anger before he runs up stairs. "Pookie!" I yell
Oooo! What happens between Pony and Brooke? Uh-oh. Is this the start of something? Will one thing lead to another? Okay, now off topic of the actual plot; what do ya'll think of the book so far? She has a lot of history with everybody in the gang. She's shared a thing with most of them even if it isn't a relationship, but her and Dallas have the most complicated history. I hope ya'll like this so far. Stay gold. Do it for Johnny!
