How This Is Gonna Work
Ok, dear reader, I'm sure that you probably just skimmed my authors notes and I wouldn't blame you.
I know that you probably just want to get to reading my story, but before you start, there are a few things you need to know. These things can be summarised in the following 6 points.
1. This is not a finished story yet.
2. This book isn't a "book" by normal standards.
3. Yes, Katie Bell is a real Harry Potter character.
4. No, the love interest isn't an original Harry Potter Universe character.
5. I hate Snape.
6. No, I do not consider 'The Cursed Child' cannon.
If you want to skip on now, you can. This is just elaboration from my points, but it is a little important for you to know how this story will work.
1. This is not a finished story yet.
Ok, this one is pretty self explanatory. When this story is first published, it will not be finished or edited by anyone else. This will be pure tired-writer-editing. That being said, I plan on doing a massive edit once big parts of the story are finished (ie. each of Katherine's years)
2. This book isn't a "book" by normal standards.
Technically, it is a book by the definition, buuuut... in this book, I plan on not writing out the bits that I deem boring.
This story is going to be more or less a collection of moments that make or break my main characters.
I will be keeping them in as close to chronological order as I can, but I will make sure to put when the "mini stories" happened in the chapter title. (Eg. If the "mini story" happened when Katherine was in her 2nd year at Hogwarts, I would name the chapter 'That time I almost lost 300 points - Second Year'). Hopefully it makes sense as the story goes on.
3. Yes, Katie Bell is a real Harry Potter character.
Boom! Surprise, surprise. If you are an avid reader of the original series, you'll probably remember the name. The original Katie Bell, as you'll recall, was a chaser on the Gryffidor quidditch team when Harry Potter was in his first year onwards. Other than that, we don't really know anything else about her. MY Katie Bell can be, for a intents and purposes, considered a different character completely to the original.
4. No, the love interest isn't an original Harry Potter Universe character.
Lets face it. Everyone's been there. We've all shipped our own characters with someone from the original series, and to be perfectly frank, it's getting a little old. So instead, my main character's love interest is going to be an original character that you'll meet soon enough.
5. I hate Snape.
I've read a great fan fiction series recently called the Promise Series by startrek007 and in that series the author really makes an effort for Snape's redemption, unlike J.K Rowling, who I don't think really thought about how to rationalise the whole Snape arc. If you don't like Snape, that's fine. If you do like him, that's fine. I just think it's better for me to put it out there that in this story I will rag on him.
6. No, I do not consider 'The Cursed Child' cannon.
Gods, JK. Why would you do this to your people? 'You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain' - wow, how truly relevant. I guess this one is pretty self explanatory - JK insists that it is cannon however, and that is kind of the equivalent of eating kangaroo shit and calling it a meal, at least in my mind. The events that occur in TCC up until shit hits the fan with time travel, I can generally agree with and will include (only the bits I deem 'important') at the end. Side Note: I may not end up including anything relating to the first chapter from TCC (platform 9 3/4 type stuff) at the end, unless it truly fits in to my NON CANNON GODDAMN FANFIC THAT I WILL (OBVIOUSLY) NOT CALL CANNON BECAUSE I'M NOT AN IDIOT... anyway.
