Enjoy! VeGirl.

"Damon..." I walked over the two steps to him and wrapped my arms around him. A little reluctant he put his arms around me and my tears started to flow.

Suddenly I broke free. "How long would it take to go to Budapest?" My eyes were wide open, staring around me wild. "Stefan, please check flights, will you?" He turned to go to the computer in the office. I pulled up my phone to check some airport app and checked what the time was over there.

"You will never make it..."

A chill went down my spine and I turned to look at a devastated Damon. "What do you mean?" I said chocked. "Do you think I should just give up?" I breathed.

He didn't say anything.

"What do you mean?" I yelled, underlining every word.

His eyebrows were pressed together, his eyes still dark blue and his mouth that was pressed together started to flinch. "I was by Rose side that day, the pain she went through you don't want to experience on an airplane." He spat out the words. "You don't want to go through that at all!"

"What choice do I have?" I yelled.

"I don't want to be the one to put a stake in your chest!" His eyes were welling up.

"Oh baby!" I wrapped my arms around him and felt him leaning his cheek on my head. "It looked like a dog... Maybe we're just exaggerating?" I suggested.

He held me by my upper arms and I was surprised by the pain in his face. "There is only so much pain a man can take." His eyes were tear-filled. "I can't do that again, not with you."

"This won't be like that, baby. Things will work out this time." As I did what I could to comfort him, I felt a searing pain in the calf; sweat started to break on my entire body and I started to shake uncontrollably. However much I tried to hide it, it was impossible, and Damon knew instantly what was going on. He lifted me in his arms and carried me toward our bedroom.

When we got to the parlour, the door flung open and Elena stormed in. "Emma?" She yelled and I could feel her voice filled with concern even if I had no strength to hold my eyes open. "Emma, how are you?" I could feel her hand on my arm.

"She's dying, can't you see?" Damon snapped with a voice raw with pain and I opened my eyes to look at him as a tear fell down his cheek.

I heard Elena give a pain-filled cry and I felt Stefan's presence. I turned to look at them as Stefan wrapped Elena in his arms when another struck of pain ran through my body and I couldn't help but to scream out loud. I started to cough and saw blood splatter from my mouth. It felt like my entire body was burning with fire and I was suddenly back in that horrid moment when I woke up in my hotel room in a bed next to Anna's.

What?!

I thought I went to sleep in Damon's bed. I was sure I went to sleep in Damon's bed, curled up in his arms. How could I be back in my room? I looked around to see where Damon was, and found a bed next to mine and in it laid my friend Anna, sleeping. Damon was nowhere around.

"Anna?! You're here?"

She snapped her head up and stared at me. "What?" she said sleepily.

"You're here!" I said, got over to her bed and hugged her.

"Of course I'm here! Why wouldn't I be?" She looked at me, with a puzzled look in her sleepy face.

"What do you mean; I had to go on my own due to your operation..."

"What operation? Emma, you're scaring me!"

"What?" I didn't understand anything and on top of that, my head was threatening to explode again. "I need aspirin!"

"I need to sleep!" she murmured and put the pillow over her head.

I went to the bathroom, took a couple of aspirin and then slumped back in bed. Not even half a minute later I bounced back up again. "What do you mean? You had to take your appendix out, that's why I had to go on my own!"

"I took my appendix out when I was nine..." she mumbled under the pillow. "Go back to sleep!"

I sat down on my bed and my head was spinning. What the hell, was I back in my life?! Oh, no! Damon wasn't in my life, had he never been in my life? Had everything just been a dream?

Anna suddenly sat up in her bed. "What is wrong with you? Did you hit your head?" She looked at me like I had totally lost it and needed a psychiatric ward.

I stared at her.

"We arrived from the airport last night."

Tears started to pour down my cheeks, I just couldn't stop them. "That's not true, that can't be true! This cannot be happening!"

My friend just stared weirdly at me.

"I'm broken, but who can fix me now?" I just cried and cried and curled up in a foetal position on the bed.

Anna came and sat beside me on the bed. "Emma, I don't understand! Was it a dream, a nightmare?"

What could I say? I just cried.

She lay down and held her arms around me. "It's okay Emma, it's all over now. I'm here and we just arrived from the airport yesterday." She patted my arm. "We're gonna have the time of our lives!"

How could I tell her it was the waking up part that was the nightmare? I just didn't believe what was happening. This last week and a half had been the best of my life, but did this mean that had only been a dream, it couldn't, could it?

Another pain raked through my body and all I could do was scream. Scream from pain, but even more because I had lost Damon. When that pain subsided and I could breathe again, I was laying in bed, with my head on Damon's chest.

"Hey baby, you're back. I'm here, I'm here." He crooned and my tears flowed. "It was just a bad dream, you're here now." He did his best to comfort me but I felt the pain rolling off of him.

Stefan and Elena showed up in my visual cortex and I could see them exchange looks. "This is too fast!" Stefan said.

"Yeah, it took a lot longer for me to get this bad." Damon replied in a detached way.

"I'll call Klaus again!" Stefan turned and walked out of the room and Elena came and took a careful seat on the side of the bed.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" I actually felt bad for her, she looked like she was in so much pain, and I knew she had been here when Rose was in this situation.

"I'm hungry, but I know that blood won't help. I saw what you did to help Rose." I smiled at her before I turned towards Damon and snuggled close to him. "I thought I would be laying here reading 'Gone with the wind' with you, decades from now." I gave Damon a weak smile.

He was silent for a while, and then he cleared his throat. "Yeah me too, that's a classic." Pain was still audible in his voice even if he tried to sound upbeat and perky, or at least as perky as Damon could be.

Another pain ran through me and I thought of pains of labour swooped my mind; wasn't that supposed to come and go like this. Hopefully expectant women didn't have to go through this intensity of pain though, and that would never be a part of my life anyway. I clenched my teeth and groaned to bear the pain through.

The searing pain left and I was totally worn out, unable to do anything but lay back on the pillows and pant. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and worked hard to cram it up from my pocket before the caller hung up on me.

"Hello?"

"Hello luv, how are you?" Klaus said.

"Klaus?" I asked airy and Damon was instantly on alert.

"Yes luv, it's me, are you okay?"

I almost cried. "No, I'm not." I lay back against the pillows. "Don't you have some blood in your house?"

He chuckled. "No, I don't give away my blood like that, luv."

I sighed. "Not you blood and not your phone-number?" I did my best to use my sarcasm and humour, the little I had left.

"Haven't they given you the bottle of blood I left the Salvatore's the day of the battle yet?"

I stopped breathe. "What did you say?"

"God! Can't you do anything?" His voice sounded raging mad in an instant. "Put Damon on!"

"What?"

"I know he's right next to you. Put. Him. On!"

Damon must have heard Klaus sharp tone on the other side of the line and snapped the phone from my hand. I slumped back, not caring about anything but to be pain-free for a moment. Suddenly I started to cough and the searing pain was running through my body again. I rolled around, not really aware of anything but to curl up in a foetal position.

"Stefan!" I heard Damon yell through the fog the pain created in my brain and I wasn't really aware whether Stefan showed up or not. Damon was holding me in his arms, trying his best to comfort me.

I could hear people barging through the door and noises coming from the house. I remember thinking up some quick remark to ask if they were redecorating the house when I heard things crash around downstairs, but I started to cough up blood again and the then I writhed in pain; again.

Suddenly everything was silent and free of pain. I was standing on the back porch of Damon's house in the woods and Damon was standing beside me, smiling.

"Hey; you fixed me!" I beamed at him and he wrapped his arms around me and spun me around. "I knew you'd fix me, you always do!"

"You know me, your all American hero-type..."

"Yes, and I will always choose you!" I said softly, looking up in that gorgeous face with those silver blue eyes that had an oddly sentimental glow on this beautiful sunny day. "Take me to the water fall!" I said and he swept me up in his arms and slowly walked towards the small shore line by the fall. The sun made a rainbow appear in the sky, just like the first time I was there.

"This is my favourite place on earth, with you by my side." I said happy.

"I know..." He said.

"I never wanna leave this place." I sighed, but then I changed my mind. "No, that's not true; I don't care where I am, as long as I have you by my side." I smiled at him and tears started so roll down his cheeks. "Don't cry baby, I love you."

Suddenly I was brutally swept back in the room of pain. Damon was here and so were Stefan and Elena.

"Emma!" Painfully I turned towards Stefan's voice.

"Emma, I want you to open your mouth and you'll be better." He sounded far, far away and I had to focus like crazy to understand what he said at all.

I closed my eyes and was instantly restrained in some dark place; my hands pinned behind my back, and feet held. I tossed and fought like crazy to get away.

A door opened, shedding light in the dark room and Kol walked in with a wicked smile. "Did you really think you could get away that easy?"

"Where are you taking us, Kol?" I intended my voice to be authoritarian, but it was weak after all the stress and draining emotions during this horrific day.

He just looked at me in the rear view mirror with a crocked eyebrow.

My blood started to run cold as I realized how easy we would disappear. "Please Kol; you have to let us go." I begged. I turned and looked into that dark room with no widows and nothing but a couple of beds in. It felt dirty and I started to panic again. "What are you going to do with us? Please Kol; you have to let us go, please...."

Someone held me, really pinned me down and forced something into my mouth and I started to panic again.

"Emma!" Someone called me, and it sounded like Damon.

"Damon?" I screamed and the dark, damp room smelling of cement, when it simply dissolved and I was back in Damon's room. "Damon!"

"Hey there gorgeous!" He said smiling and I was in his arms.

I exhaled and the pain and nausea subsided. I could feel how this crisis let go of me, and I didn't understand what had changed. My eyes wandered to Damon's and I guess that I looked confused.

"Is the pain gone?"

"Yes..."

"Good." His eyes filled up with what I read as tears of relief and he hugged me tight. "That is good." He mumbled into my hair.

I turned and smiled weakly up at him. "You and I were at the fall." I said amazed.

"I know." He had a smug expression on his face. "Are you feeling better?" he asked and I had to focus to really make sure.

"Yes..." I said surprised.

"Good!" He held me tight against him again.

I heard muffled sounds in the room. "Hey Emma." Elena said and I noted both her and Stefan in the room. "You're back." Elena had tears in her eyes.

"Hey... I had the weirdest dreams..." I said weakly.

"Yeah, we noticed." Damon had his arms around me and I sat up in bed, feeling so much stronger than before.

"You fixed me?" I looked between the three of them and then I turned to find my leg perfectly healed. "Wow, look at that!"

"Yeah, it turned out we had a bottle of Klaus blood in the house all along." Stefan said. "I'm sorry we forgot about that." He was filled with guilt and when I turned towards Damon, he mirrored that expression perfectly. "And then we couldn't find it..." Stefan murmured.

I just smiled at the both Stefan and Elena. "I thought you were remodelling." I teased them. "Thank you for fixing me!" I smiled and then leaned back against Damon again who wrapped his arms around me. "I'm sorry I was stupid and got bit in the first place."

He just squeezed me tighter. "No more showing off on a full moon now, okay?"

I turned to face him. "I promise! I'll stop running around, thinking that I'm immortal."

"Yeah." He said tart. "From now on you're not allowed to leave my side at all."

I looked seriously at him when a smile broke out on my face. "I can live with that..."

His face finally softened. "You're dead, get over it." He murmured with a smile lurking in the corner of his mouth.

"No I'm not; I'm more alive than I have ever been." I murmured back, looking smug.
