[B3] Episode 22
🌺
"Minor fracture on his leg and shoulder. Aside from that, we don't see any major injuries but we'll need to run through some tests just to make sure."
George was still shaking. Nang dumating si Dos bigla sa may parking lot na duguan, she felt her soul leave her body. Tapos hinimatau pa ito after he said sorry for being late. Good thing the guard saw them kaya nakatawag agad ito ng tulong and they brought Dos to the hospital. Good thing Lia was there kaya natawagan agad nito si River who then called Tita Saturn who's now talking to the doctor.
"Rhi," Jarvis called and stood next to her. "Everything will be fine. Kami na muna ang bahala dito. I can take you home. Baka hinahanap ka na ng mommy mo."
Agad siyang umiling. Her knees were still weak and her eyes stung from all the crying she did on their way to the hospital. Hindi siya aalis sa tabi nito. She'll stay there until he wakes up.
"I'll call my mom. I'll tell her that I'm gonna stay here," she firmly replied.
"But your clothes—"
"I don't care."
Napabuntong-hininga si Jarvis and let her be. She didn't care if her clothes were covered in blood. Basta hindi siya aalis. She won't leave Dos. Never again.
"Okay," he said gently patting her shoulder. "Pupunta na lang ako sa bahay niyo to get you some clothes. River will be here in a while to keep you company."
Tumango siya and rested her head on the side of Dos' bed while still holding his hand. She was facing him so she had a clear view of his face.
He looked so pale. Pumayat din ito ng kaunti since the last time she saw him. Was he getting enough sleep ba? He had dark circled forming under his eyes kasi.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I was late again."
Her eyes started to sting again. Kasalanan niya 'to. If she had just confronted him about the party, all of this wouldn't have happened. Masyado siyang naging harsh and impulsive. She should've just given him the chance to explain and defend himself. Hindi yung nagiinarte pa siya. Lia was right.
A few hours passed and hindi pa din ito nagigising. Siguro dahil na rin sa sedative na itinurok dito when they operated on his leg. Hindi pa rin siya nakakapagpalit ng damit even if Jarvis had already delivered her the duffle bag packed by her mom.
"George, gusto mo muna kumain?" River asked. May dala itong plastic bag with food in it. "Sigurado akong hindi pa naman yan magigising sa lakas ng tinurok na sedative diyan."
"Hindi ako gutom," she said. "I'll wait for him to wake up."
He opened the containers and carefully pushed it towards her.
"Eat. Baka kalbuhin ako niyan ni Dos kapag hindi kita inalagaan," anito and smiled. "Mahal ko pa naman buhok ko."
Wala na siyang nagawa kundi ang sumunod kay River. He can be quite convincing sometimes and she felt a bit hungry na din. He ended up joining her at nagkwento na rin ito about how Dos was cranky the whole time she wasn't speaking to him.
"Daig niya pa babaeng may buwanang dalaw," River described. "Lahat na lang sa bahay napapansin. Pati yung mga bunso eh natatakot na sa kanya. Yung tatlong lalaki madali lang naman takutin 'yon pero hindi si Anikka. She was close to crying because her charm wouldn't work on Dos the whole week."
She glanced at Dos. He really is an intimidating person. His gazes were blank and empty before she got to know him pero, it was all an act. Kasi once she got to know him better and watched him closer, doon niya nakita that his eyes were full of warmth and love. He's also the softest guy she knew. Even though their feelings weren't laid on the table yet, he took good care of her and protected her in ways he knew how.
"I'm sorry..." she whispered. "I... If I hadn't ignored him, hindi ito mangyayari sa kanya. It's my fault kaya siya naaksidente--"
"Let me stop you there, George," putol sa kanya ng lalaki. "Tulad ng sinabi mo, it was an accident. That means, walang may kasalanan ng nangyari. So don't torture yourself into thinking na ikaw ang may kagagawan nito. Kung may dapat sisihin, si Dos 'yon. Bobo niya kasi mag-motor. Excited amputa--"
"Kung ikaw kaya ang balian ko ng binti, hayop ka?"
Kulang ang katagang 'tumigil ang pag-inog ng mundo ko' nang marinig ang boses ng kaninang walang malay na si Dos.
"Dos!" Her head snapped towards Dos and immediately lounged herself at him. She flung her arms over his shoulder and buried her face on his chest. "Oh my God!"
Naramdaman niyang kamay nitong dumampa sa kanyang likuran. Relief washed over her kaya't mas lalong lumakas ang kanyang iyak at humigpit ang yakap niya dito.
"Shh..." Dos said while gently stroking her hair. "I'm okay now. Stop crying."
"You scared me!" she yelled but it was muffled a bit dahil nanatiling nakabaon ang kanyang mukha sa dibdib nito. "I thought... I thought... I don't want to be a gangster's girlfriend na! I hate your motorcycle! Don't use that ever again!"
She felt his chest vibrate a bit and heard him chuckle. Then slowly pushed her away making her slowly lift her face up to look at him.
"I'm sorry," he said while gently wiping away her tears. "It won't happen again. I just didn't want to keep you waiting."
Lalo tuloy siyang nakonsenysa kaya't napaiyak nanaman siya. She held on to Dos tightly saying sorry over and over again. She felt him softly pat her head before placing a chaste kiss on her forehead. River groaned.
"At talagang sa harap ko pa naglandian," asik nito bago tumayo at dinala ang pinagkainan nila. "George is still underaged. Paalala ko lang, Isidro."
"Inggit ka lang, Ricardo."
"Bakit, kayo na ba? Kakasuhan kita ng corruption of minor."
Dos and River bickered the whole night at hindi niya na namalayang nakatulog na siya sa tabi ng una after changing her clothes. The next day ay ginising siya ni Jarvis saying she should get ready for school and ito na rin saw ang maghahatid sa kanya.
"I'll be back after class," paalam niya kay Dos. "I'll take the night shift with River uli."
"As much as I want you here, hindi pwede," Dos said making her pout. "Mag-aalala ang mommy mo. Plus, I'm fine. Hinihintay lang naman yung result ng tests and I'll be good to go. No need to worry about me."
Dos playfully messed up her hair making her scowl at him. He chuckled and they lovingly touched her cheeks making her blush crimson.
"I'll see you soon," he said with a smile. "Don't miss me too much."
Kahit kulang sa tulog, she felt a lot better than she did the past week. It was like she was in an all-time high sa school and even when she came to visit Dos.
Hindi ito pinagayan to leave the hospital since he broke his leg. May mga tests din daw na kailangan pa hintayin like his MRI and Blood Chem. She didn't bother much about the medical stuff kasi what's important for her is okay na uli sila. It's smooth sailing na uli from this point.
But that wasn't the case.
"Fuck!"
Papasok na dapat siya sa silid nito when she suddenly heard a crash. She was so excited on her way to the hospital dahil may dala siyang cupcakes para dito. Her mom and Kendall helped her bake them for Dos. But before she could enter his hospital room, pinigilan siya ni River and that was when they heard him yell.
"Leave me the fuck alone!" Another crash. "Fuck this! Fuck all of this!"
Napatingin siya kay River. He couldn't look straight at her so it was odd.
"Did something happen?" kinakabahang tanong niya dito. "May ka-argue ba siya inside?"
River heaved a heavy sigh before finally facing her. His eyes were kind of sad and parang may something wrong talaga. She suddenly felt nervous.
"River?"
"It's best if you go home, George," he said in a sooft manner. "Meydo wala sa mood ngayon si Dos. Ano... um... yung painkillers kasi hindi umuubra."
"What!?" The nervousness she felt a while ago amplified. She's now more determined to see him. "Then I need to see him! I want to see if he's okay--"
"Don't worry about him, George. Kami na muna anh bahala sa kanya," River insisted. "Umuwi ka na lang muna. We'll call you when he calms down."
Napabaling siya sa may pintuan. She could still hear Dos yelling and things crashing from inside the room.
She couldn't help but feel worried. Sino ba naman ang hindi after hearing the calmest man you know shout like that? It was so not like Dos to lash out like this. She was scared.
"But--"
"Please, George," River begged. "We'll just call you kapag nahimasmasan na si Dos.
She waited for that call for days. But River didn't contact her and so did Dos. It's like he's deliberately avoiding her call or something.
"Did Isidro Montecillo change his room po?" she asked the nurse tending the nurse's station. "Isidro Montecillo the second. He's my uh... my friend."
The nurse looked at her with a confused expression. "Ma'am, Mr. Montecillo had been discharched since yesterday. Hindi po ba kayo nasabihan?"
That took her by surprise. What? He already left? Bakit hindi siya nito sinabihan? Even River. Or Jarvis. Why didn't they tell her about it?
"Miss?"
She snapped out of her shock induced trance and turned her attention back towards the pretty nurse.
"A-Ay oo pala, I forgot!" she exclaimed smiling awkwardly at her. "They called me pala kanina and I forgot about it. Anyways, thank you po."
Nagmadali siyang naglakad papunta sa main entrance and hailed a cab. Alam niya ang address ng bahay nina Dos so she asked the driver to take her there.
"Baka they were busy lang," she convinced herself. That can be possible kasi even if there was no major injuries involved, Dos still needed help. "Tama. They were just busy. It's better if pupunta na lang ako sa house nila instead of calling."
Well, it was usually like thag because the security there was really tight. The guards would just call Montecillos and they'd let her in in no time.
"Sorry po ma'am pero sabi po ni Mr. Montecillo eh hindi po muna sila tumatanggap ng mga bisita sa ngayon. Pasensya na po."
Her forehead creased. Was Dos deliberately avoiding her? Even his cousins, iniiwasan din ba siya ng mga ito? Did she do something wrong to make them mad? Are they mad at her for being the cause of Dos' accident?
She wasn't able to sleep that day. Even the following days. She kept on contacting Dos and his cousins pero they all wouldn't answer. Kaya she used Kendall's help to fish out some information from Box.
Apparently, Dos' leg wasn't fuy healed yet but he'll be going back to school this week. Kaya naman she asked her mom to help her bake some cupcakes again para ibigay kay Dos. Alam niyang cupcakes are not enough to say sorry pero, she wants to at least make him feel better with tasty food. And her red velvet cupcakes were amazing.
"Mommy, can I make another batch? I'll give some to my classmates na din as a thank you for voting me last elections na din."
Her mom smiled and gave her a nod. "Sure, baby. Do you want to make different flavors na din?"
"Yes po!" She said excitedly.
In the end she made more cupcakes than she expected so she just bought some extra na lang din for Dos' classmates.
Maraming upperclassmen ang napapatingin sa kanya on her way to Dos' department's building. She was so excited 'coz finally, ay makikita niya na uli ito after weeks of not seeing him. She really missed him and she hopes he does too.
When she arrived in front of Dos' department, she patiently waited for him by the bench. At exactly six fifteen, nakita niya nang nagsilabasan ang mga estudyante who she recognized as Dos' classmates. She couldn't help but smile in excitement.
"Dos--"
Her smile slowly faded as she sa Dos walk out of the building in crutches with a girl next to him. He was smiling--that gummy smile of his while talking to her while the girl helped him out.
She suddenly felt claustrophobic as she witness the scene in front of her. Her knees started to feel weak and her stomach churned. Her eyes started to sting too but she fought hard against it. Hinigpitan niya ang kapit sa dalang paper bag and slowly stood up.
Don't over react. Don't over react. Don't over react.
She kept chanting that inside her head. She wasn't really sure if it she was actually trying to convince herself or she was just trying hard not to cry.
"D-Dos," she called him out.
She was so concentrated on trying not to break down in front of him that she totally forgot what she was supposed to do and just stared at him for a full minute.
"What do yoh want?" he coldly said making her flinch and bite her lip in shock. It was so blank that she felt like she was slowly drowning in an abyss of darkness. Natauhan uli siya nang tumikhim ito. "What? I don't have all day."
Napalunok siya. What's wrong with him? She can't recognize him anymore.
"W-Why are you like that ba? Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?" she tried to lighten up the mood. Or her mood. Because it really did not have any effect on him.
"Kung may sasabihin ka, sabihin mo na," he spat making her flinch again.
Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't fudging cry, Georgina--
She heard Dos scoff before rolling his eyes at her and turning away. She acted on impulse and grabbed his arm.
"Wait!" she called. "Who... who is she?"
Then he turned back to her.
"Girlfriend ko."
Her mouth went agape. "W-What? G-Girlfriend?"
"Oo. Girlfriend ko," pag-uulit nito. "Kaya kung wala ka nang ibang sasabihin, get lost."
She bit her lip to stop herself from crying. It was a bit too much because she tasted something a bit brassy.
"Wa--"
"Let's go," ani Dos sa babae bago tumalikod sa kanya. The girl turned to her and gave her a sympathetic look. Lalapit sana ito sa kanya but she took a step back. Then she ran away.
She didn't know where she was going but she just kept running.
She felt like all the oxygen inside her were sucked out. Her vision was also blurry.
"G?"
She recognized thag voice. She turned around and saw Lia with her bag on one shoulder.
"L-Lia..."
Her knees lost its strength and she fell on the floor. Lia immediagely ran towards her and asked what's wrong as she continued to cry helplessly.
"It's over, Lia. He... he doesn't love me anymore..."
