Chapter One: Where Are You?
~4 months later, February 13th, 2020~
I walked into the bathroom with the paper cup I got from the lobby. I filled it up with water and looked at myself in the mirror.
"She's gonna wake up one day, Harmon...one day." I said to myself as I looked in the mirror.
It's been about 4 months since the NWG invaded the compound. Over 300 hundred innocent people were saved, and a great portion of the camps guards surrendered.
Felipe ran and found me with Libitina in my arms. He said I had empty eyes as I stared at her corpse.
It hurts thinking about her.
Spencer and Felipe helped me evacuate Libitina from the camp and we rushed her to the best NWG hospital we have.
One of the NWG's finest doctors, Gus Williams, has been the one looking over her. He managed to stableize her, however she's been in a coma.
I recalled the day he pulled me aside and told me.
"I'm not sure if she's ever gonna wake up."
On that day, I was devastated by those words. But nonetheless, every chance I get, I come to visit Libitina. I loved her, and I still do.
I always wear a suit, because I want her to see me at my best when she wakes up.
I walked back down the hallway of the hospital and over to Libitina's room. I remember when I walked down the hallway of the camps hospital.
At least Libitina was still with me back then...
I walked into the room and saw Libitina laying on her back, her eyes still closed.
"Beep...beep...beep..." Her heart monitor made a faint sound as I looked at her.
I walked over to Libitina and there were IVs hanging out of her arm. I walked over to the roses on her nightstand and poured the cup of water into the pot.
I had a weird feeling that if I kept watering those flowers, it was like me keeping Libitina alive.
That's what made me keep visiting Libitina. I had to water those flowers and keep her alive.
"Hi... Libitina..." I said.
I sat down on the side of her bed and looked over at her face. I moved her stray stands of hair off of her face and over to the side of her head.
Her hair grew out since she was still asleep so I grabbed a comb out of my suit and started to softly brush her hair.
She was so pretty back then, and she's still pretty to me.
"I love you, Libitina." I said softly.
"I'm sure she loves you too, Harmon." A voice said behind me.
In the doorway, was Libitina's doctor, Gus Williams. He was resting his arm on the door frame as he smirked at me.
"Oh, Dr. Williams." I said.
"I told you to just call me Gus. Doctor Williams is just for the patients." He said.
"Sorry, Gus."
"It's alright my friend."
"So how's Libitina doing?"
"Promising...for a girl in a coma. She's very well alive and her brain waves are still going. She's somewhat healthy...but she's losing a little weight."
"O-Okay..." I said.
I've heard enough. Just knowing Libitina is okay was enough.
"Look, Harmon. I'm not trying to be 'that guy' but I'm about to clock out, and the other doctor doesn't like you here so late."
"Y-Yeah...sorry..."
"It's alright. I'm heading to the bar, care to join me?"
"Yeah, why not?"
Might as well drown my sadness.
I leaned over the bed and gave Libitina a kiss on the forehead. Gus walked down the hallway and I watched Libitina as I slowly closed the door.
"Goodbye, Libitina." I said.
I joined Gus as we both walked down the hallway.
"What was it like at that camp?" Gus asked, sparking conversation.
"Hell...just hell..." I said.
Gus chuckled as we entered an elevator and we went down a couple floors.
"You talk to Frost lately?" Gus asked.
"No, not really..." I said.
Frost, or Spencer, was the leader of the NWG. He was actually at the camp while the NWG invaded and Libitina...well...
"You hear what happened between him and Cosgrove?"
Gus broke my train of thought. Cosgrove was Spencer's best friend, and the last time I heard from him, he was hunting down Cosgrove for killing a bunch of agents.
"No, why?"
"Apparently Spence dropped him into a wood chipper and juiced him."
"No way...that was his best friend..." I said.
"Drew was there, and he told me."
"Good Lord...is Spencer okay?"
"He's alright I think."
Me and Gus walked out into his car. He drove a black BMW and I got into the passenger side.
We drove off to the bar while I softly sang "How To Save A Life" to myself.
That song could describe my life in the best way.
Gus parked outside of a bar called the "Spread Eagle" and we walked in. Behind the bar stood a man who smiled when he saw Gus.
"Well isn't it Gussie!" He said.
"Good to see you too, Dominic." He said.
Me and Gus took a seat on two stools and Gus ordered two drinks.
"Arstotzkan vodka please." He said.
Gus was arstotzkan so his signature drink was that type of vodka.
"Who's your friend here?" Dominic asked as he looked at me.
"Oh s***, Harmon this is Dominic, Dominic, this is Harmon." Gus said.
I shook Dominic's hand and he smirked at me.
"Dominic here is one hell of a brawler." Gus said.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Yep, you should hear about this fight he got into in his school."
"That fight is the least of my worries, lemme' tell you about this literature club I joined." Dominic said.
Dominic went on about this club that he joined and how he met all these girls. I think I blacked out halfway through and woke up at the end.
I looked over at Gus and him and Dominic were crying of laughter.
"Ah yes, anyway we must get going now." Gus said.
"Until we see each other again." Dominic said.
Gus got up and I followed him. He waved Dominic goodbye as we walked out the door.
I sluggishly got into the car and Gus drove me home.
"You seeing Libitina tomorrow?" Gus asked as he drove.
"I'll try to." I said.
I wasn't exactly the most wealthy person. I took a taxi to the hospital anyway. I could barely afford my house so I had a lot to do.
"Well, I'm sure she'd love to see you again."
Gus pulled up into my driveway and there wasn't a light on in my house. I got out of the car and Gus waved me goodbye.
"See ya Harmon!" He said.
I waved goodbye and walked into my house. I looked around and saw that my kitchen light was on.
"What the hell? That wasn't on before..." I said.
I slowly and hesitantly walked into my kitchen.
"What the hell?" I said.
Sitting on my counter, was a pale skinned girl with skimpy clothing and black wings looking at me with her legs crossed.
"Hehe, so cute." She said.
"Who the hell are you? Why are you in my house?"
"Because I know..."
"You know?"
The woman got off my counter and seductively walked towards me.
"I know about Libitina. I want to make a deal." She said.
She bent over and looked me in the eyes, giving me a nice view of her body figure.
"You want her to wake up, right?" She said.
"More than anything..." I said.
"Give me the book."
The woman pointed at my chest right where Libitina's book was. That was the only thing I had left of her.
"No!" I said.
"You said more than anything, I can bring her back."
"How do I know you're telling the truth?"
"I promise I guess."
The woman grabbed me by my shirt and kissed my lips. I felt her hands reach into my jacket and pull out the book.
I felt a shock from her lips onto mine and I blacked out and fell onto the floor.
Bzzzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzzzz
I woke up to a buzzing sound in my pocket. It was now daytime and I looked at my phone.
It was a text from Gus.
It read:
"Get here, now!"
