Chapter Fourteen: Where I'm Lost
"LIBITINA!"
I grabbed Libitina by her arm and she looked back at me with an agressive and pained look. I looked deeply into her eyes and her face slowly fell into a frown.
Tears developed in the corner of her eyes and she closed them as one fell down her face.
"I...I can't find it..." She said.
"Libitina...I'm sorry. I don't think it's here anymore."
I pulled Libitina in for a hug and she mumbled words into my shirt.
"I know... I-I'm... I'm S-Sorry for being so mean to you."
"It's alright, Libitina. I know that book meant a lot to you." I said.
Libitina squeezed me a little harder. The guilt started to really weigh down on me.
"Do you want to go home?" I asked.
"Yeah." Libitina said through her tears.
She was still fighting back tears. I thought of something that might cheer her up.
"Want to ride back on my shoulders?"
Libitina looked up at me and started to grin a little.
"Yeah..."
I smiled at her and turned around. I crouched down and Libitina slowly climbed on top of my shoulders.
"W-Woah!" Libitina said as I slowly stood up.
Everyone looked at me and Libitina as I walked back to my car with her on my shoulders.
Libitina panicked a little bit when she would sway to the side, however I held on tight to her.
We made it to the car and I set her down. She walked over to the passenger side and let herself in as I got into the driver side.
I pulled out of the camp as it started to rain again. We kept the radio off as I drove about an hour back to the house.
The rain would hit the windshield softly as I drove through the night.
I pulled up the driveway and I looked over at Libitina. She was completely asleep in the passenger seat.
I got out and walked over to the passenger side. I lifted Libitina and I walked into the house.
She would wrinkle her forehead as rain fell on her face.
I walked through the doorway and closed it behind me. I set Libitina down on the couch and she was still sound asleep.
I moved her hair out of her face and gave her a kiss on the forehead. She seemed to enjoy that as she smiled in her sleep.
I covered her in a blanket and let her sleep. I went into my room and went through my nightstand looking for pencils and a journal.
I knew how mad Libitina was about losing her book so I decided I would do something for her.
I sat down at my desk in my room and started. I wrote down my experiences in Camp Sabal and even put some drawings that I saw in my dreams in there.
On the cover I wrote "How To Save A Life."
I thought that would be a cool name for this journel because of how it was about how I saved those people's lives.
More importantly... I saved Libitina's life.
Overall it took about an hour and a half.
I walked back out to the couch and saw that Libitina was awake again. She was sitting up on the couch watching TV.
All of the lights were off and the room was just Illuminated by the TV screen.
"Libitina?" I said.
Libitina looked behind her and faced me. She smiled gleefully and waved her fingers through the air.
I chuckled and joined her on the couch. I took a seat and she leaned her head on my shoulder.
Libitina had a blanket wrapped around her lap and a bowl of popcorn between her legs.
I watched TV with her and noticed she was watching a show that I've never seen before.
"What channel is this on?" I asked.
"Uuuuuuuuh...."
Libitina took her head off of my shoulder and touched the tips of her index fingers together as she laughed nervously.
"Well...um...you see..."
I looked at Libitina a little confused.
"I...might have...borrowed your credit card...and got Netflix..."
"Libitina..."
I looked at Libitina, but her innocent face was too cute to be mad. Besides, I was rolling in cash now. This is just a minor inconvenience when it comes to Libitina.
"It's alright." I said.
I placed my hand on Libitina's head and rubbed it softly. She giggled gleefully.
I took my hand off of her head and faced the TV again. It was playing a show about two guys, one a chemist teacher, the other a hoodrat, making methamphetamine in the deserts of new Mexico.
Libitina wrapped her arms around my right arm and looked up at me.
"I love Netflix and chilling with you." She said.
"What?!" I said, surprised about what Libitina just said.
"What?"
"Do you know what that means?!"
"When two people hang out...and watch Netflix?"
"Libitina...no..."
"What does it mean?"
I waved my finger towards Libitina and she put her ear in front of my face.
It was probably unnecessary to whisper what it meant in her ear because me and her were the only ones in the house.
I told her what...that...meant and she started to giggle halfway through. She looked back at me while she covered her smile.
"Oops." She said.
Honestly I didn't know if she was being genuine or not, all I knew is that I wanted to go to sleep. I leaned back on the couch and started to close my eyes.
What I forgot though, is that I was still holding the book in my hand. I felt someone suddenly grab it.
"What's this?"
