Not Okay

Izzy shut off the water and stepped out of the shower, drying herself with a fluffy towel and pulling on a change of clothes. Her wet hair dripped down her back but she didn't care all that much since the itching at the crook of her arm had come back with a fury. Izzy needed to take her morphine and she needed it soon, she knew it would calm her mind, even if it was just for a little while. But as much as she needed a hit right now, Izzy knew that she couldn't risk it while the boys were awake. She walked out of the bathroom and dropped off her clothes into the laundry basket in her room before making her way towards the kitchen. She'd expected to find the boys napping or eating like usual but they were doing neither of the two. They sat squished onto the couch and a few of them spread out on the floor, looking somber. Namjoon sat at the center of the couch, head hanging low. Jimin sat to his right, glaring at the floor, his fists clenched.

"Guys? Is everything okay?" Her voice caught their attention and seven heads shot up to see her standing at the edge of the room. As she looked at them, Izzy couldn't help but notice that Hoseok's eyes looked red. Had he been crying? Why?

"What is this?" Namjoon's hand tossed a small object onto the coffee table. Izzy's eyes cautiously slid from the doleful faces of the boys and moved to the table where a small baggie lay, seven little white pills encased in the plastic.

"What is this, Izzy?" He repeated his question, voice quivering in what Izzy could only describe as anger. The itching in her arm was a distant nuisance compared to the seven sets of hardened eyes that were trained on her.

"We thought you were doing better," Jungkook mumbled quietly. He refused to even glance up at her, and it broke Izzy's heart. They were upset, they hated her, and her sobering brain wouldn't let her forget it.

Izzy opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out, there was no way she could talk her way out of this one. But how had they found it? She'd made sure to hide it—Jimin. He saw her messing with her pillow. Jimin had found the morphine. The prick of pain behind her eyes was sudden and unexpected but Izzy tried to keep the tears at bay. She still had no clue how to answer their questions.

"Why the hell would you do this again?" Jimin's glare was still on the floor but from the way he spoke Izzy knew that he was furious.

"Jimin," Namjoon cut him off with a shake of his head, "That's not the way to do this."

"I don't give a damn!" Jimin shot off the couch and began pacing a hole in the floor, all the while avoiding eye contact with Izzy.

"We saw what you were like the last time this happened, Izzy!" He looked at her now, and his flaming eyes nearly brought Izzy to her knees. "You were clean! You worked so hard to get there so why would you throw it all away? Why the hell would you do this to yourself?"

"Maybe you should lighten up on her, Jimin," even though he was defending her, Taehyung's eyes saddened when they landed on Izzy, and he immediately averted his gaze.

"No! I'm not going to lighten up on her, she knows how bad this is. She knows and she still did it!"

"Why'd you do it Izzy?" Jungkook's voice was gentle, and unlike Jimin, his face didn't hold any hostility.

"I—"

"Don't make up some excuse, Izzy, we want the truth," Jimin cut her off before she could even speak. "And I know you Izzy, so I'll know if you're lying to me."

"I don't know why I did it, it was just an impulse—"

"What sort of masochistic impulse makes you want to ruin your life like that?"

"Something happened at the café—"

"What happened?" This time it was Jin who cut her off with a question. Like Jungkook, he spoke gently.

"Youngkyun showed up," she fiddled nervously with the fabric of her sweater.

"What—"

"Why didn't you tell us?" Jimin's angry shout was cut off by Hoseok's question. His eyes were still red and judging by his thick voice Izzy now knew that he had been crying. And she was the one who caused him pain. Izzy hated that fact even more than she hated Jimin yelling at her. She had never wanted to hurt any of these boys.

"I didn't want you guys to worry."

"And you thought that this," Jimin snatched up the bag of pills and waved it in the air, "Would worry us less than knowing that you saw Youngkyun?"

"What happened at the café?" Jin asked again.

Izzy drew in a shaky breath. "I was working and I heard Mrs. Lee fighting with someone in the kitchen, and she isn't the type to yell. After a while she came out into the main room and Youngkyun followed. Mrs. Lee told him to leave but he saw me," Izzy had to stop and swallow the lump in her throat. "He-he said that he was taking me back with him." Jimin's furious pacing stopped. "He knew that I was with you guys. And I don't know how he knew, it was the first time I've seen him since we broke up. How did he—" the sob she'd been holding back finally burst out of her throat.

"Hey, hey, it's okay Izzy, please don't cry," in an instant Taehyung had her wrapped in a hug. Any other time Izzy would have tried to hide her tears but she was too weak to care. Withdrawals had her mentally exhausted and emotionally spent, and for once she just needed to cry on someone's shoulder. She had never been more grateful for one of Taehyung's hugs than she was right now.

"Don't try to play this down, Taehyung! This is anything but okay."

"Jimin—"

"Youngkyun he—he got under my skin! It was the only thing that I could think of!" Izzy's head lifted from Taehyung's shoulder as she tried to defend herself against Jimin's verbal onslaught.

"So you went to Jae for drugs again? Why would you go back there?" Jimin was fuming.

"No, no I didn't go to Jae, I just bought them from some guy—"

"You bought them? Are you insane?" Jimin was full out shouting now. "You can't just buy drugs from some random guy, Izzy! He could have sold you poison or something! You could have been arrested! What were you thinking?"

"I-I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking straight—"

"No! You weren't thinking at all, Izzy!"

"Jimin!" Yoongi interjected, "That's enough," his tone was harsh.

For as long as Izzy has known them, she'd never before heard him speak like that to any of the boys. Yoongi rose from the couch and rested a comforting hand on Izzy's back and gave Jimin a hard stare.

"She made a mistake but that doesn't give you the right to scream at her." Izzy's eyes turned to the floor in shame, she knew that she screwed up, she let them down, and it was the biggest mistake she'd ever made.

"No right? She lied to me!" Jimin apparently wasn't done shouting. "She lied to all of us! We thought she was making progress. She made us believe that she was actually getting better but she was lying to us and ruining her own health. How can you guys be so tolerant about this?" Jimin's hands ran through his hair in frustration. He was pacing the living room like a madman, practically wearing a hole in the hardwood floors.

Taehyung's arms tightened around Izzy's shaking shoulders, his hand pressed her face into his shoulder so Jimin couldn't glare right into her face anymore, he could tell that Jimin's angry face made Izzy cry even harder than she already was. His action was met with an furious huff from Jimin and roll of the eyes.

"How long are you going to do this?" Jimin waved a furious hand at Taehyung and Izzy. "How long are you guys planning to just pat her on the head and let this slide like it's nothing?" His head shook back and forth, his shoulders quivered with rage. None of the boys answered. Jimin took one last heavy breath and stopped his pacing, pointing a finger at Izzy.

"You promised me that you were okay. This, Izzy, this is not okay." It was the last thing he said before storming out of the apartment.

The air in the apartment felt considerably lighter after Jimin left, but there was still a thick tension that hung in the room. Izzy didn't dare move or speak, she stood silently with Taehyung's arms tightly wrapped around her and simply stared at her bare feet. The couch springs groaned as Namjoon rose to his feet and approached her, making Taehyung's arms drop, and leaving Izzy feeling exposed. Namjoon's face was like steel, it didn't give away anything. Izzy couldn't tell if her was angry, upset, or maybe just hungry, but the lovely dimples that usually graced his cheeks were absent and she could tell that he wasn't happy.

"You can't do this, Izzy," Namjoon spoke quietly. "I know it's hard to stay clean and that sometimes it seems easier to just relapse into old habits but you've got to fight it." His warm hands landed gently on her shoulders and gave them a comforting squeeze. The other boys watched intently.

"I've relapsed more times than I care to admit, and each time was even worse than the last. You're like a little sister to me—to all of us. You're our family now and I won't let my baby sister experience the hell I went through. So I need you to fight this. And I need you to remember that you're not alone anymore. You have us now, we're going to make sure that you're okay, no matter what it takes."

Izzy thought that all her tears had dried up but apparently not. Namjoon's speech had her throat constricting in on itself and fresh tears streamed steadily down her face. His gaze on her remained steady as Izzy's eyes darted between Namjoon's feet and her own fidgeting hands. A feeling she couldn't describe kept bubbling up inside of her chest until finally it exploded and she launched forward, making Namjoon sway slightly from the force of her hug.

"I'm sorry!" She sobbed into his sweatshirt. "I'm so sorry. I was stupid and I let Youngkyun get to me. And I was so scared to tell you guys about the morphine because I thought you would be mad. And I couldn't stand the thought of you all hating me. So I hid it and I know I've hurt you guys but I'm so indescribably sorry," Izzy clung to Namjoon's tall frame and he pulled her close, rubbing her back comfortingly as her pent-up emotions finally spilled over. Several other hands rested on her shoulders or rubbed her back. She had screwed up, she had failed them and these wonderful boys were still taking care of her, they still cared about her.

"We're not mad at you, Izzy." She didn't quite believe Yoongi's words but she desperately hoped they were true. "You need to beat this. And we're going to do everything we can to help you through it."
