Dark Times

"Hey girly! It's been like a whole week. What were you doing?" Cassie's high pitched voice began rambling as soon as the door swung open.

"Oh uh, nothing I guess," Cassie was too drunk to fight for a real answer. Her sharp fingernails cut into Izzy's arm as she yanked her into the tiny apartment. As usual the place was filled with a haze of smoke and a pile of multicolored pills was spilling from the coffee table. The bare light bulb that hung from the ceiling flickered annoyingly and Jae was lounging on the crappy old couch, just like when Izzy had left.

"You've been getting busy with those guys that were with you last time, haven't you?" Cassie whispered in Izzy's ear, her beer breath blowing over her face, and released a drunken giggle.

"Uh n-no! No, nothing like that," Izzy's throat felt dry, she was far more than uncomfortable being in that apartment, especially with Jae's piercing eyes following her every move.

"Yeah whatever," Cassie dismissed. "Come check out the new stuff Jae's guy brought last night," she dragged Izzy by the arm and shoved her onto the floor by the coffee table.

Jae, in all his wrinkled-boxers glory, sat up with a groan and stared her down. "Take off your jacket, Izzy, get comfortable," the way he scanned her body made Izzy's stomach churn and she prayed that her breakfast would stay down.

Despite her discomfort she did what he said and peeled the leather from her body, leaving herself in a cropped beige sweater which she had to tug down to cover her midriff. Izzy carefully placed the jacket behind her, making sure that it was far away from Jae.

"So what are you in the mood for? More DMT?" He rested his elbows onto his knees and leaned forward, shuffling the pile of pills around the table.

"Whatever," she whispered guiltily.

She couldn't help but feel the guilt seeping into her every bone as Jae scooped up a couple white pills and dropped them in her awaiting hands. It looked a bit like DMT but there was no limit to the varieties of small white pills, so this particular drug could be anything. She didn't feel like asking. Izzy threw the pills back dry, swallowing past the dryness in her throat. A whole week of progress had just been flushed down the drain. What would Jimin think? Izzy dragged her hands angrily down her face. Why did she have to do this? Why did she always let Youngkyun get to her? The answer was staring her in the face, and it looked like a little white pill: because she was weak. That's the only explanation her drowsy mind could come up with.

"What is this stuff?" She mumbled to no one in particular as she laid back onto the floor, using Jimin's jacket as a pillow.

"Morphine," Jae answered with a scratchy chuckle.
"Morphine? Don't they use that for surgery and stuff?"
"Among other things—"
"I found beer!" Cassie's loud shriek cut off her boyfriends cryptic sentence.

The excited girl bounced over to the living room holding a six pack of cheap beer and slammed it down on the coffee table, crushing a few pills in the process.

"Here babe," she thrust a cold bottle into Jae's hands before throwing one to Izzy, who barely caught it before the glass bottle could smash on the floor. With an experienced hand Izzy slammed the metal cap against the table edge and it popped easily away from the bottle, flying through the air and landing somewhere across the room. The room was silent as the three of them drank their beer. Cassie was the first to finish her bottle and throw it down on the floor.

"I'm tired!" She whined in a high pitched tone that hurt Izzy's ears and made her cringe.
"I'm gonna go nap," she pulled herself off the couch, "Babe, you wanna come?"

"Nah, I'll stay out here," Jae mumbled dismissively, eyes never straying from Izzy's slumped frame.

"Whatever," Cassie stumbled off into her bedroom to sleep, despite the fact that it was only two in the afternoon.

Izzy sat in silence for a while as Jae just stared at her with red eyes and occasionally pushed more pills in her direction. Soon enough she felt the effects of whatever he had given her. The last thing she'd swallowed was a little purple pill with a smiley face carved into it. Her vision was starting to blur and it felt like she'd just run a marathon with how hard her heart was beating against her ribs.

"Come sit on the couch." Jae's sudden words invaded her ears and they didn't sound like a request. Izzy didn't move but it didn't matter, because not even a second later two restricting hands gripped her arms and dumped her on the couch.

"I haven't seen you in a while," he stated lowly.
"It's only been a week," Izzy muttered nervously.
"Yes it has, and we never got to finish our fun from the last time you were here. You ran off a little too fast." Izzy's blurry eyes flashed to the hand that rested on her knee.
"What are you talking about?" Jae's eyes widened in shock at her question before his chapped lips turned up in a wicked smirk.
"You seriously don't remember?" He laughed in her face, his beer breath blew across her face and made her nose wrinkle.
"Let me jog your memory," his scratchy voice growled in her ear.

Izzy's mind blanked out for a moment but when she came back to her senses she nearly threw up. Jae's hand had slid too far up her thigh and his fingers unbuttoned her jeans, beginning to slowly drag down the zipper. His rough lips attacked her neck as his spare hand crept beneath her cropped sweater and harshly yanked her waist towards his body, pressing his hips against hers.

"What that hell are you doing?" Izzy's breathless voice chocked out.

"Just shut up," his rough lips continued to assault the sensitive skin of her neck. Her back hit the couch as Jae shoved her down, his sharp fingernails digging into her waist.

"Jae stop!" Izzy tried to push him away but he wouldn't budge.

"You weren't telling me to stop last time, Sweet Cheeks," his tongue slid across her collar bone.

"Get off me," she was trying not speak too loudly; she didn't want to find out what would happen if Cassie saw this.

Izzy pushed desperately against Jae's bare chest, trying to shove him away with numb limbs. He wouldn't stop. No matter how hard she pushed the onslaught of his mouth and hands wouldn't cease. Izzy was desperate to get away from him but her mind was hazy, everything that touched her skin felt like it was on fire, and her heart wouldn't stop its frantic pounding in her chest. A tense gasp escaped her lips when Jae's clammy fingers crept underneath the lacy waistband of her underwear. Before she even had time to think about what she was doing Izzy's leg came up and caught Jae right between his legs.

"Shit! What the hell?" He groaned loudly, his hands shot down to cover his freshly kicked junk as he rolled back on the couch in pain.

Izzy shot away from the couch on wobbly legs and scooped her jacket off the floor before sprinting out of that damned apartment. She ran down the building stairwell and out into the city, not daring to even slow down. Her shaky fingers yanked up the zipper on her jeans and fixed the button as she sprinted through the West side. Izzy's breathing came in panicked gasps and her body shook violently but it wasn't from the cold. She ran as quickly as her numb legs would take take her and she didn't stop until she pounded up the steps of the boys' apartment. She ran right into the door, leaning her sweaty forehead against the cold wood she breathed heavily for a couple minutes, allowing the hot tears to drip down her skin. Sucking in one last deep breath she swiped her arm angrily across her face, wiping away her tears before quietly opening the apartment door.

"Izzy!" Jin's startled voice called from the living room.

"Izzy?" Jimin came sliding around the corner, running straight for her and wrapping her in a strong hug. His warm embrace was so different from Jae's suffocating arms.
"Your shift ended hours ago, Izz. Where were you? We called your phone a thousand times. Are you okay?" Jimin rambled on at a mile a minute, his arms never releasing their hold. Izzy buried her face in his neck and breathed in his cologne, taking comfort in the familiar scent.

"I'm sorry. It was really busy at the cafe so I stayed a little longer to help out. I should have called," she mumbled tiredly into his skin.

The lie tasted bitter on her tongue but she didn't have a choice. The rational side of her mind knew that he would never judge her, even if she slipped up a time or two. But the drugged, irrational, and currently dominant part of her mind told her that Jimin would hate her if he knew the truth. He would hate her if he knew that she had caved and used again. He would hate her if he knew that Jae's hands had touched her skin.

And Izzy couldn't lose Jimin. She just couldn't.
