Chapter 9|Barat
No no no
I silently grumbled trying to fix the flower curtain that Javaria and Aabid were going to sit behind when they signed the nikkah-nama. "What's wrong?" Roofa asked coming from behind me.
"This stupid curtain is giving me a migraine." I mumbled, Roofa sighed and grabbed a step ladder climbing onto it, I looked up to see her fixing the top of where the curtain start's from. "Okay, now try." She yelled from above.
I gave it a yank and finally it was straight and not messed up. I beamed at Roofa and she climbed down looking pale. I felt bad because Roofa was scared of heights, I am too but she's worse. I grabbed a water bottle and gave it too her while I made her sit down on the floor.
She gulped it all down and took deep breaths. "Thank you." I said giving her a genuine smile this time. The whole reason Roofa was nice to me was because she was nervous. Javaria had gotten nerves and threatened to run away if everything wasn't perfect.
My aunt blamed Roofa for Javaria's behavior because according to her Javaria has always been a "sweetheart". I felt bad for Roofa and ever since then I have been nice to her. She got up and handed me the water bottle, leaving without a 'your welcome'
I sighed and put the water bottle down fixing my dress. I had gone with black because it was my favorite color.
Today was Javaria's Barat and the function was being held at a hotel. It was the largest hotel in Pakistan and my aunt and uncle spent thousands if not hundreds of dollars on this. The barat is when the groom comes riding in on a horse with drums and stuff behind him, he then stands on the stage till the bride comes.
The nikkah was what was important though, the nikkah is when the bride and groom signed the official paper's making them husband and wife. I smiled at the decorations around me that me and the worker's had put together.
My aunt said that I needed to know my place and apparently my place is a "maid" so I've been working, not that I mind. Doing things like these make me think about my wedding day, and how I was going to spend it.
When my mom was around we spent hours a day planning everything and my dad and I would be excited for the father-daughter dance. Now, I can't even walk down the aisle because my dad isn't around and it wouldn't be the same with anyone else.
"IT'S ALMOST TIME!" Someone shouted making all the workers clean up there supplies. I helped around until the place was spotless and all ready for a bride and groom to get married. I smiled when my friends' came to my side with plate's in there hands, the plate's held flower petals in them.
Me and my friends stood next to the red carpet that one of the worker's had layed out, the girl's around me where fixing themselves to look good on the camera that was going to be coming soon.
Suddenly, we heard drums and everyone straightened up as we all smiled at Aabid and his parent's and family as they walked through the hotel door's. Aabid had a bright smile as well as his parent's when he stepped on to the red carpet we all threw our flower petals at him and continued until the last person entered.
Then Aabid made his way onto the stage and sat down talking to some guys. People were mingling around waiting for Javaria to come. I sat there with the girls kind of feeling nervous wondering if Javaria was throwing a temper tantrum as usual.
But the thing constantly running through my mind was Is Asad here? I didn't see him walk in... oh my god what if he's planning on murdering me or something???
"Earth to Rayyana." Rabia said laughing, I blinked and smiled back "Sorry, what were you saying?" The girls sighed as they huddled closer "Are you thinking about the interaction with Asad?" I scoffed at the mention of his name pretending like I wasn't just thinking about him.
But yes, our interaction would not leave my mind.
Flashback
I silently stared at Asad as everyone around me also stared at him, I guess everyone was wondering why he was here or better yet why he was talking to lil ol me.
"Y-why are you here?" I stuttered which is weird because I never do that. Suddenly a hand came onto Asad's shoulder making him flinch "Asad! What a surprise!" Aabid then proceeded to hug Asad. I looked at Aabid and asked the question Javaria's side was probably wondering "How do you know him?" Aabid smiled at me "He's my 3rd cousin."
My mouth as well as a few other people's mouths fell wide open. We all stared at Asad as he scowled and removed Aabid's hand.
Suddenly, I was pushed as a million aunties came at Asad asking him weird questions such as his Hight and stuff. I grumbled when I noticed my stepped on Jalebi on the floor. I looked back up at Asad who's eyes never left mine.
I blushed and walked away not looking back.
I walked all the way up to the roof of our house and sat down on the charpai bed fixing my glasses. I loved to come here when I was feeling anything but happiness. I silently sat there staring up at the moon and stars when I heard someone clear their throat.
I looked up and quickly fixed my dupatta when I noticed it was Asad. I looked away acting uninterested in him "What do you want?" I heard some shuffling and then the bed creaked. My heart did flips as I noticed he sat down next to me and I mean RIGHT next to me.
"Nothing, just wanted to see the girl who had the guts to yell at me." I bit my lip thinking he remembered?
"Sorry." I mumbled, I look to him and he was playfully cupping his ear "Sorry, what?" I tried not to laugh at his foolishness and instead said "I'm sorry, I lashed out on you. To be fair though, it was your fault I don't care if your famous or not you shouldn't have bumped into me like that."
He looked at me with bewilderment "Wow, aren't you afraid I could do something?" I looked at him moving a few inches back, he noticed and quickly started mumbling "No! I meant like a restraining order or something."
I raised an eyebrow "A restraining order? For what hurting your feelings?" I teased him, he laughed and I watched mesmerized with the way his head fell back.
We talked for a few hours under the moon and stars and I realized soon after that I had never ever been this free with a boy before.
flashback end
"No." I mumbled back to Rabia adjusting my glasses. "Rayyana the nerd and Asad a player, wow!" Sabha said dreamily.
We heard drums again and got up, it was time for Javaria's entry. "Come on Rayyana!" The girls said running ahead of me with their plates full of flower petals. I tutted as my shoe slipped off my foot, I quickly adjusted it and was speed walking when suddenly almost fell back dropping the petals.
I tutted and turned around annoyed but instead starting madly blushing when I noticed what the situation was.
Standing there was Asad, his arm was up showing me my dupatta which was stuck in his sleeve button. I gulped and thought
Ya ALLAH what is this Om Shanti Om?
No urdu translation today just pictures-
Nikkah nama- Official paper's you have to sign to legalize the wedding.
This is what it basically looks like.
charpai bed- A really cozy type bed.
100/100 I would recommend, so cozy and fun to lay on if you have an open roof.
Standing there was Asad, his arm was up showing me my dupatta which was stuck in his sleeve button-
This is what I was trying to describe (as if that could actually happen in real life to me) :(
ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEXT CHAPTER IS ON THE SAME DAY THE BARAT AND NIKKAH HAPPEN ON THE SAME DAY!
Thank you :)
