Chapter 34| Soojin
"Thanks Juan." I mumble closing the car door, Juan pokes his head out of the window "Are you sure your okay Rayyana?" I just nodded and walked away.
I opened the door and closed it with my feet, I took off my shoes and tiredly sat down on the sofa. The door opened and I looked over to see Rabia.
"Where were you Rayyana? I called you like a dozen times!" I didn't say anything not really feeling in the mood to talk... or to live.
She sat down beside me "Rayyana?" I knew if I opened my mouth I would burst out crying. I don't know why I was like this, I knew damn well that me and Asad were never going to get together.
Maybe I'm moody because my period is coming? No... I already got mine this month.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and I felt the water works coming "Rayyana?" Rabia's voice was loser then a whisper, almost not heard. I couldn't take it anymore, I sniffled and hugged her tightly.
"I can't do this anymore." I mumbled into her shirt my cries getting louder by each passing second.
Rabia said nothing as I ranted to her about my horrible life and cried in her arms. After a good 20 minutes I sat up and looked at Rabia to see she was crying too.
"Rayyana, you should leave him." I shook my head. No matter how tempting that sounds I couldn't. If I did, I would be even more sad then before.
Rabia and I changed the subject, she told me that Sabha was getting better and soon they would leave back for Pakistan. Something about that made me more sad but I didn't show it to Rabia who already was sad.
She told me that Soojin was thinking of going early now that she knows Sabha's okay. "Can we go see her?" Rabia agreed and we left to the hotel.
"How are you now Soojin?" I asked hugging her, she hugged me back but it was more frigid. "Yeah, I'm fine." She mumbled and grabbed her purse. "Where are you going?" Rabia asked her "Downstairs, it's lunch time."
We nodded and followed her down to the dining area of the hotel, I looked around at all the food and realized nothing was halal there besides the fruit and fries.
"Soojin... there's noth-" I trailed off when I saw Soojin pick up a BLT sandwich, and she picked up some candy and fries.
She sat down at a table and I watched in horror as she took a big bite of the BLT. I ran over to her and yelled "Soojin, put that down! your eating bacon!" Soojin just shrugged and continued eating until the whole burger was finished.
"W-what?" I asked confused as she just took the candy that was 100% haram and ate the whole packet. "It's okay Rayyana." I looked over at Rabia who was silent.
"Okay? Your eating things we are not allowed to eat!" Why wasn't Rabia stopping her? "Rayyana..." Rabia started but trailed off "I'm converting." Soojin finished for her.
My eyes widened as I stared at her "WHAT?" I ended up yelling. Soojin finished her fries and threw away everything into the trash. She motioned for us to follow her and soon we were at a park that had 2 kids playing while a little bit far away from them were some adults sitting down on a blanket probably having a picnic.
"Islam isn't for me Rayyana, ALLAH wasn't there for me and my brother, he let him leave me. He made me hurt by writing all this down in my life book. And I don't like the Hijab anymore. What's the point? Guys still look at me."
Hearing all this coming from a girl who inspired me to keep on praying when my parent's passed, the girl who had helped me revise the Quran 10+ times is now telling me she wanted to leave Islam.
And I wasn't going to get mad at her no. If someone is in a religion no matter what it is and they say they want to convert, half of the reason could be because someone misguided them or something tragic could have happened that made them change their ways.
The best thing you could do is gently help guide them back, and if that doesn't work support them endlessly and wish them the best of luck. And secretly pray that whichever religion is best for them, that they stay there and have the best time ever.
If you yell at them and say "How could you? our religion is the best" and stuff like that, they will feel more attraction towards the other religion.
"But Soojin, why? ALLAH (Swt) has plans, it's written down for all of us. We all have to experience pain, and we all have our time when we have to go back up to him." Soojin said nothing, just watching the 2 kids.
"The Hijab is to protect us from stares from guys, and to cover our chests. Guys stare yes, but we know that we are hidden from all these dirty men." I finished gently, praying to ALLAH that she will get over this.
She sighed and looked down at the sand, she started playing with it with her shoes. "I just... I don't know anymore." I looked at Rabia who was staring at me back. I had a feeling she had known this but hided it from me.
"Could it be your like this because your sad?" She stopped playing with the sand, her head snapped to me. "I'm not fucking sad Rayyana." She got up and brushed her dress from behind "And besides, life seems so fun without Islam in it doesn't it?"
I tried hard not to flinch, Islam has been a big thing in my life ever since I was born and hearing someone say things like this hurted me especially someone who had guided me a long time ago. "You get to drink, wear whatever clothes you want, go home with guys and not regret it."
"Alcohol has many dangerous side affects, you were talking about guys staring at you with a Hijab won't they stare when you wear half-naked clothes? And do you really want to go home with a new guy every day? New guys inside you every day filled with only ALLAH knows what diseases?"
Soojin and Rabia were quiet at that. "Soojin, there is a reason all this is Haram and there is a reason ALLAH has written that we are not allowed to do all this. Everything that Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam said 5000+ years ago today is coming true today. Please, try to be reasonable."
I think it's working, I could see Soojin thinking about it hard and thoroughly. "No, I've made my choice. I'm converting to Christianity." Rabia gasped "That isn't what Christian's do Soojin!" I tried one last time.
"Yes they can Rayyana!" Oh who was I kidding? I had graduated from a catholic school, I knew all about the Bible, I knew they changed it to make all of these things okay.
So, with a heavy heart I said "If that's what you want Soojin, I wish you the best of luck." And then I got up and walked out of the park defeated.
I tried ALLAH, I tried.
Sabha's POV
"Okay! It look's like you can go back home tomorrow!" Doctor Ben said smiling at me. Amir looked at me with widened eyes and helped me sit back down onto the bed. I smiled up at Doctor Ben "How's my father doing?" I haven't seen him, Maha, or her mom in weeks.
"Oh, Mr. Ali has been discharged since last week." My smile faltered and I let out a small "Oh." Doctor Ben excused himself and left me and Amir alone.
"Did you see him leave?" Amir was around the hospital a lot so he must have seen my dad leave. He shook his head "No, I haven't." He grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it.
"We're going to pack up our stuff and I'm going to go back with you to meet my mother-in-law." He said in between kisses. I blushed harder as he lips pressed onto the back of my hand for a second longer.
"Mhm." I whispered smiling goofily. The door opened and Amir and I pulled away quickly, I sighed in relief when I saw Rayyana and Rabia.
"I heard your leaving tomorrow!" Rabia said hugging me "Yeah." I said laughing, I looked at Rayyana who seemed a little lost in her thoughts.
"Is she.. okay?" I looked at Rabia who had a worried expression on her face. She turned to me "Hm? Yeah she's fine." After that sentence Rayyana snapped out of her thoughts and we talked and laughed about tomorrow.
I breathed in the fresh air and stretched, I was soar for lying down for weeks. I had trouble breathing a few times, but then I started breathing again normally so Doctor Ben said I could go.
I felt arms wrapped around me from behind, then I felt a head in the crook of my neck. "Ready to go Mrs. Malak." Amir had been calling me that for a while now, and every time he did I would feel butterflies explode in my stomach
"Can you actually drop me off somewhere?" Amir raised an eyebrow at me, but nodded not asking any questions.
We rode in silence until we came to the place I wanted to go too for a while, Amir looked at the big building "What do you want to do here?" I unbuckled my seatbelt and grabbed my purse.
"I'll be back in a few minutes." I closed the door and walked into the very fancy building.
I walked up to the desk and talked to the lady who told me were I needed to go. I entered the floor and walked around until I found the door.
I knocked loudly 3 times and fixed my shirt and hair, would she want to see me? Of course not, but I couldn't live like this any longer.
I took a deep breath just before the door opened, and the person on the other end froze.
"Hi Soojin."
