Chapter 14| Romantic Dinner
Main Haari
That was the one thing going through my mind ever since I had said that one dreaded word.
"Yes"
Ever since I had said that I felt sick to my stomach. Asad told me not to tell anyone so when my friends all asked me why I said yes I told them I had done it because I wanted to go back to Canada.
And that I wanted a easier life, one where I wasn't watched 24/7.
They didn't like my response but I didn't care, after all I was leaving soon. I was in a bad mood and everyone knew that. Everyone except my aunt who was really close to slapping me but never did thankfully.
And on top of that my period started so I had gone mental. My aunt would tell me do something and I would scream no and run out of the house. I was destroyed, destroyed because of those photos and destroyed because I couldn't tell anyone.
I don't think his parent's even knew about this. My phone beside me buzzed and I opened it without checking "Hello?"
"Rayyana, get ready I'm taking you out." I sighed as Asad hung up on me without another word. Him and his "dinners" they sound romantic but there actually just me and him going to a restaurant and me sitting there while he scrolls through his phone.
The thing was that the paparazzi had gotten news of us and Asad told them we were madly in love, so he takes me out to "romantic dinners" every other day so people could see how much we loved each other.
I always was a good liar, why not use my special powers? My phone buzzed again with the girls talking in the group chat. They were asking if they wanted to go to a carnival tomorrow afternoon. I sighed knowing full well I had to ask Asad first because if I didn't I wouldn't be "respecting him".
I looked through my closet for something to wear, Asad's mom had bought me some clothes and I didn't like them that much to be honest. I would much rather shop at Walmart then somewhere fancy for clothes.
I grumbled as I looked at my comfy sweatpants and grumbled even more when I realized I had to put on makeup. Because my dear husband needs a wife who looks expensive all the time I had to learn how to do makeup. It was a pain learning all the different types of blushes and brushes from the girls.
In the end I chose not to do all the extra fancy stuff and decided to learn how to do the latter which is lipstick, mascara, eyeshadow and that's it. With the amount of dinner's I have been to with Asad I can now proudly say I am still as worse as I was before with my makeup.
Basically, I had never left stage one.
I fluffed my hair and was about to wrap my dupatta on my head but stopped when I realized that If I did I would look like a grandma as Asad likes to put it. The even sadder part is that Asad's mom isn't even saying anything to Asad about how he should let me dress but I guess we will let it slide because a girl now a days has to look like a Victoria secret model 24/7.
I heard the ringing of the doorbell and gave myself a look over, satisfied I grabbed my purse (also provided by Asad's mom) and exited my room... only to run smack dab into my aunt's scowling face.
"Another dinner?" She asked as always. "Yes." I was bored already and uncomfortable, I just wanted my bed some chocolate and some alone time. "Hm, your always going out awara larki. Don't you know you have to sit at home like a innocent person?"
If there was anything I hated it was going out. No matter who it was with I didn't like it because I was more of an indoor person. I had told my aunt about that multiple times but who want's to listen to me? I gave her a bored look "Phupho, I have no choice." She rolled her eyes and went to the kitchen mocking me.
Suddenly, she held her back and yelped in pain.
I stared at her deciding to cancel the dinner but then I heard the doorbell ring again. I didn't have a choice anyway so I went to the door and opened it.
"Where were you? I've been standing here for 10 minutes!" Asad said angrily, my mouth turned into a 'o' and I said "Oh no! Are your legs okay? Do we need to go to the hospital?" Asad glared at me as I shut the door behind me and went down the stairs.
Asad followed shortly after and we headed out for the restaurant in silence.
"Oh my god, do you not know any other restaurants?" I angrily said slumping into my seat. Asad raise an eyebrow "I thought you liked this restaurant." we were in the famous restaurant in Karachi BBQ tonight. I loved this place especially there ribs but if you come here every other day you would tend to get sick of this place.
"Yeah, but we come here every other day. What is even up with that? I think the paparazzi know we are in love quite well." Asad shushed me "Shut up, you never know who's who." Sometimes, I wonder what my life would have been if I had just killed myself.
I shook my head and thought positive like going home and sleeping on the Charpoy bed on the roof under the stars. My cramps started to kick in and I held my stomach wincing I could feel my face going pale and I remembered that one time I felt this way in geography class back when I was 14.
I had asked to go to the bathroom multiple times because they got so bad and my teacher thankfully let me go. I had no tellenol with me and it was the worst day of my life. Well, or so I thought. My life now is even more worse isn't it?
"Are you okay?" I looked up at Asad completely forgetting about him and his stupid paparazzi. I nodded and sat back up acting as If I wasn't just doubled over in pain. He raised an eyebrow at me but didn't say anything.
I watched in defeat as he pulled out his phone and started doing ALLAH knows what on it. He tells me to act all nice but won't the paparazzi wonder why he won't talk to me? And why he's always on his phone? But then again he's a cricket player and must have thousands of things to do (note the sarcasm)
I shake my head as a waiter comes to our table, I look up at him and realize that he's new. I had learned everyone's name here (considering the fact that I'm here every other day) and this face I knew I had never seen before. I smiled up at the waiter as he smiled back at me "Welcome to BBQ tonight, what would you like?"
He was young but he had a deep voice.
Astagfirallah Rayyana you are engaged!
"Yes, can we get the ribs, with some naan and some karahi?" The boy wrote it all down "Anything else?" I shook my head no and he nodded and left to go tell the chef's our order. I looked back at Asad who was still on his phone.
I was about to pull out mine but the waiter came back "Is everything okay?" I asked him suspiciously "Oh yes! I just wanted to talk... if you don't mind!" He started blushing and I kindly smiled at him "No, I don't." I did mind, right now I was in pain and wanted no one to talk to but I couldn't say no to him.
I started asking him about his life and before he could even start I heard a scraping of a chair and looked to see Asad glaring at the poor boy. "How dare you talk to my wife so openly." The boy (I need to learn his name) started shaking as Asad came closer to him.
I stepped in between them "Asad stop, he was giving me company." Asad scoffed "So your going to defend someone who isn't your fiancé?"
Some fiancé you are leaving me bored and alone.
"Sorry about him, you should go." I whispered to the poor trembling boy who nodded at me and ran away. "Honestly Asad you scared him." Asad stared at his retreating back "I would have given him a black eye if it wasn't for you."
Men are so dramatic. "Didn't you see the way he was looking at you? and openly flirting with you?" to be honest I hadn't, I was so determined to have some company I had ignored his stares and thought he actually wanted to talk. "Okay chill the paparazzi is outside." I sat down and clutched my stomach again.
I HATE THIS!
I sighed and started counting to 10 telling myself to calm down and instead ate my food that was brought out by Waseem a whole other waiter.
Waseem apologized for the new guy and made a promise to Asad that he would never do that again. Asad started saying they needed to fire him but I calmed him down by pointing at the paparazzi who had surrounded the restaurant taking picture's of us.
He stopped because after all his image is more important. I started talking to Asad about his anger issues and then about our wedding that was going to take place soon but Asad just went back to scrolling on his phone.
Finally having enough of this I snatched his phone and put it in my purse.
"What the actual- give it back Rayyana." I shook my head "No Asad, today we are going to try a new thing called 'communication.'" I said the word slowly so Asad could hear me properly. He rolled his eyes and grumbled but he did stop asking for his phone back and ate his karahi in silence.
I smiled and started talking but then stopped when I remembered I had to ask him something.
"Asad, can I go to the carnival with the girl's tomorrow?" I asked eating my ribs. Asad was quiet for a few minutes but then grumbled out a "Sure." I smiled at him and we continued having a great conversation.
Well, it was me talking mostly and him grumbling all his responses but somewhere along the line it was a start.
I woke up the next day in a much better mood, it was my 5th day and my cramps were gone meaning this horrible mess was going to end soon.
I was brushing my hair when my door opened and my uncle and aunt stormed in all mad. I raised an eyebrow at the 2 of them, it had been a long time since they had talked let alone stood next to each other.
Were they coming with me with there problems? Before I could say anything my uncle pulled a newspaper out of his pocket and put it in front of my face "WHAT IS THIS?" He angrily yelled at me.
I grabbed the newspaper staring at the front page headline in shock.
