Chapter 3

Hero-Girl's ticket went through a wild journey. When it initially flew away from the train, it had landed in a forest next to the tracks. Then, a pack of wolves came rushing by. The wind caused by the wolves running caused the ticket to blow away again. It floated down a deep cliff, where the train was passing on a nearby bridge. The ticket was then picked up by an eagle. The eagle flew through the air. Diving down a waterfall where its nest lay on a tall rock. Inside the nest was a baby eagle, seemingly just hatched. The eagle gave the ticket to her young to feed her. The baby eagle ate it. But immediately spit it out into a crumpled-up ball. The ticket rolled down the snowy mountain, forming into a snowball. But it broke when it hit the top of a bridge.

The ticket, now uncrumpled, began floating down the exit of the tunnel. That's when the Polar Express came rushing out, colliding with the ticket. The ticket stuck onto the train's snowplow. Until it slipped through and went under the train. It hit something else underneath. Two adult pups, seemingly hobos, were sleeping under the train. The ticket hit the face of one hobo, before sliding off and continuing. It then went through a gap between the wheels and floated up. By some miracle, the ticket flew back into the train car when Conductor and Hero-Girl were going back inside. It floated around for a bit, before getting stuck on a vent on the wall.

"Young lady, forgive me," The Conductor started. "I believe I have neglected to punch your ticket. May I?"

Hero-Girl nodded. She reached under her seat for her ticket but was surprised to see that her ticket wasn't there. "I left my ticket right here on the seat. But it's gone."

"You mean you have lost your ticket?" The Conductor said, sounding upset.

"She didn't lose her ticket," Chase spoke up as he and Sweetie got up from their seat. "We did."

"We were trying to hold onto it for her, but the wind blew it out of our grasp," Sweetie said. She walked up to Hero-Girl and handed out her and Chase's ticket. "You can have ours."

"Ah!" The Conductor snatched the ticket out of Sweetie's grasp. "These tickets are not transferable," He growled to the two. "Young lady, you will just have to come along with me."

The Conductor led Hero-Girl back to the door. Hero-Girl looked back at Chase and Sweetie sadly as she was escorted out of the train car.

"You know what's gonna happen now, don't ya? He's gonna throw her off the train," Know-It-All said. Chase and Sweetie turned to him in shock. "Yeah, he's gonna probably throw her right off the rear platform. It's standard procedure. That way she won't get stuck on the wheels. They may slow down the train a little bit, but they're never gonna stop it."

"Is he crazy!" Sweetie exclaimed.

"That's straight-up murder!" Chase said. "We need to stop the train again!"

Chase and Sweetie rushed back to the emergency brake lever. Sweetie climbed on Chase's back to pull the lever but stopped when she saw Hero-Girl's ticket stuck on the vent. It was almost sucked in. Reacting quickly, Sweetie grabbed the ticket with her claw and climbed down.

"Chase," Sweetie showed him the ticket. "There's still time."

"Then let's not waste it," Chase said.

Chase opened the train car door. He and Sweetie looked down. There was no safe place to just walk on over to the next train car. Chase leaped over to the next train car and opened the door to the caboose.

"Jump, and I'll catch you!" Chase told Sweetie.

Sweetie nodded. She took a step back and leaped forward. As Chase promised, he caught Sweetie and set her safely down. The two rushed down the caboose and went to the rear platform, but they didn't see Conductor or Hero-Girl anywhere. They hurried back in and looked at Lonely-Boy.

"Where'd they go?" Chase asked. The boy was silent. "Please, tell us! She's in danger!"

"She could die if we don't hurry!" Added Sweetie.

Lonely-Boy looked up and out of the window. They could all see a light from the top of the train. Casting two shadows.

"On top?!" They both exclaimed. They ran back to the rear platform and saw a ladder that was attached to the side of the train. But it was dangerously close to hitting some rocks on the side.

"We need to go," Chase said. Sweetie nodded. The two began to climb the ladder and reached the top of the train. The wind was blowing against them hard. Chase was able to keep his ground, but Sweetie began to slide off.

"Chase Help!" Sweetie cried out as she neared closer to the end of the train.

"Sweetie!" Chase yelled. "Ruff! Grappling hook!"

Chase's grappling hook popped out from the top and fired towards Sweetie. Sweetie caught the hook in her mouth, just in time. She was inches away from falling off. Chase carefully reeled her back to him, but during that Sweetie's tiara blew off her head. Forever gone in the snowy tundra.

"Are you ok?" Chase asked. Sweetie nodded and let go of Chase's grappling hook. But she immediately began to slide back again. Chase was ready this time and grabbed her before she got any further.

"The wind is too strong for me," Sweetie said.

"Get on my back and hold on tightly," Chase said, lowering himself down to her.

"No, Chase. I'll just put more strain on your body," Sweetie said.

"If it means protecting you, I could care less," Chase told her.

Reluctantly, Sweetie climbed on Chase's back once again and wrapped her paws around him tightly. Chase began to trudge through the snow on top of the train. He and Sweetie could see a faint light ahead.

"Wait!" Chase yelled. But his voice didn't reach them. His voice was blocked by the wind. "Ruff! Megaphone!" Chase's megaphone popped out from the side. "WAIT! WE HAVE YOUR TICKET!" Again, his voice wasn't heard. The light getting smaller and smaller. "WAIT!"

Too late. The light was gone.

"C-Chase," Sweetie spoke. "Are we...?"

"I don't know," Chase said, retracting his megaphone. "But we need to keep going.

Chase kept pushing through the rough winds. The snow hitting against his fur. Sweetie held onto Chase tighter, but she began to shiver. Though she did have a double coat, it wasn't enough to keep her warm in these conditions. Chase could feel Sweetie's small body shaking against him.

"Sweetie, are you ok?" Chase asked her.

"C-C-Cold..." Sweetie shivered. "C-Chase... I-I'm s-s-scared."

'I can't keep her out here for long,' Chase thought. 'I need to find this girl and get Sweetie warm.'

Chase took a few more steps forward until he spotted something. It was a small light in the distance. Chase got closer and closer to the light. When he was close enough, he could see two figures in front of them. Both were adult dogs. They looked like hobos. One of them was big. Bigger than Chase. While the other was way smaller. Around Sweetie's size. Both of their faces were covered by their hoods.

The big dog was playing on a hurdy-gurdy, humming along to the tune he was playing, while the small dog leaned against him. They had a small fire in front of them. With a kettle hanging above by three sticks. The big dog stopped playing as he and the small dog noticed Chase and Sweetie.

"Is there something I can do for you?" The big dog asked in a gruff voice.

"Uh, we're looking for a girl," Chase said.

"A girl-" He and the small dog began laughing at them. Chase and Sweetie looked at them, confused. "Ain't we all?" The big dog laughed.

"W-We, have her ticket," Sweetie showed the ticket to them with her claw.

"Well, lookie. Lookie here. What is this?" The small dog spoke as she took the ticket and examined it. "This is an official, authentic, genuine ticket to ride. You two better keep that in a safe place," She said, handing the ticket back to them. Sweetie was about to put the ticket into her left pocket until the big dog spoke again.

"If I were you I keep all my valuables right here," He said as he took off an old worn-out hat. He kept his hood on to keep his identity hidden. "Experience shows this is the safest place."

"Uhh, ok?" Sweetie didn't have a hat, and her tiara was gone. So she carefully slid the ticket under Chase's hat. Which hadn't moved an inch for the whole ride.

"We don't have much use for those. Tickets..." The small dog huffed. "We ride for free."

"Yep. We hop aboard this old rattler any time we feel like it," The big dog stated. "We own this train. Oh, yeah. It's like I'm the king of this train. Yeah. This king of the Polar Express."

"And I'm his queen~," The small dog said, sounding a bit flirtatious.

"And a beautiful one, might I add," The big one added.

"Oh, you," The two adults dogs leaned towards each other, seemingly into a kiss. But by what Chase and Sweetie were hearing, it sounded like it was more than just kidding.

"I feel very uncomfortable right now," Sweetie whispered to Chase.

"So do I," Chase whispered back.

The two adults dogs finally pulled away from each other. The big dog spoke up. "Actually, not just this train. In fact..."

"We are the king and queen of the North Pole!" The two shouted together. Their voices echoed all around.

"The... king and queen?" Sweetie wondered.

"Yeah, you of all people should know that," The big dog said.

"Look girl, I understand your motives. And frankly, I would do the same if I were in your shoes," The small dog said to Sweetie. "But unlike you, I have someone in my life," She said as she leaned against the bigger dog.

Sweetie growled. "What's that supposed to mean?" Sweetie felt like lashing out until she took in what the small dog had said. "W-Wait... how did you...?"

"We know all, kid," The big dog laughed.

Meanwhile, Chase was confused at what they were talking about.

"Hold on. I'm lost. What's going on?" Chase asked.

The two hobos looked at Chase in shock. "Wait," The big dog spoke. "She didn't-" The two hobos looked at each other and burst out with laughter. "Oh, that's hilarious!"

"What is?" Chase asked. He looked at Sweetie for answers, only for the terrier to look away from him.

"That she never told you why she wanted to be queen!" The small dog laughed. She turned to Sweetie. "Honestly girl, you finally have someone you can talk to and you don't tell him your issues?"

"Shut up!" Sweetie yelled.

"Ha! Kid, you won't believe this," The big dog said to Chase. "So basically-"

"No," Chase interrupted. The two hobos stopped laughing. "I don't appreciate you two laughing at my friend. Sweetie will tell me when she wants to. And if she doesn't, so be it."

"Chase..." Sweetie muttered, amazed to see him standing up for her.

The two hobos grumbled for a bit. "I guess we did go a bit too far," The small one said.

"Yeah," The big dog agreed. "We're sorry for our attitude towards you. We haven't had guests in a while and got a little too excited."

"Yeah, that wasn't cool of us," Th small dog said. "But where are our manners. Sit, sit. Sit," The small dog urged them.

Chase grabbed Sweetie off of his back and placed her in front of him. He then used his body to cover her, giving her a bit of warmth.

"How is this?" Chase asked.

"B-Better," Sweetie said. "But I-I'm s-still cold..."

Before Sweetie could do anything else, she could feel something being wrapped around her. It brought instant warmth to her. She looked down and saw that a blue vest had been put on her. She turned around and saw Chase without his vest on. She was wearing it. "Chase?"

"You need it more than I do," Chase told her. "I'll be fine. I've been through worse.

"Well, it sure looks like it kid," The big dog said. "You're wrapped up pretty good."

Sweetie looked down on Chase's body and let out a small gasp. The top of Chase's torso was wrapped in bandages. Sweetie could also see multiple stitches through the bandages. "Chase... you said-"

"I know," Chase interrupted with a sigh. "I'll explain it later. I promise."

"Would you like some joe?" The big dog asked. He grabbed the kettle and poured it into a cup and handed it to them. "Nice hot refreshment. Perfect for a cold winter's night."

"You take it, Sweetie. You need to warm up," Chase said. Sweetie took the drink and took a small sip. It didn't taste bad, but it certainly could be better.

The big dog then pulled something out of the kettle. An old sock. The sight of it made Sweetie spit her drink out of her mouth.

"There. Bless you," The small dog said.

After clearing her throat, Sweetie spoke up. "Uh, back to what you guys said earlier, what about Santa?"

"Santa?" The big dog wondered.

"Yeah, isn't he king of the North Pole?" Sweetie asked.

"Oh, you mean this guy? Huh?" The big dog pulled out a Santa hat from his hood and began to laugh like Santa. Chase and Sweetie thought he sounded more like a maniac than Santa.

"What exactly is you two's persuasion on the big man?" The small dog asked them. "Since you brought him up."

"W-Well..." Sweetie paused and looked down. "Part of me wants to believe... but..."

"You don't want to be bamboozled," The big dog said. Sweetie nodded.

"And you?" The small dog asked Chase.

"I'm more confused than anything," Chase said. "They said I loved Christmas. But, I can't seem to find that same happiness anymore. I want to believe. But like Sweetie, I don't want to believe a lie."

"Oh, so you don't want to be led down the primrose path," The big dog laughed. "You don't wanna be conned or duped, have the wool pulled over your eyes. Hoodwinked. You don't wanna be taken for a ride, railroaded."

The big dog picked up the kettle and splashed the fire out. Causing Chase and Sweetie to jump in surprise. The two hobos began packing up their stuff, seemingly ready to leave.

"Seeing is believing. Am I right?" The small dog smirked.

"Then, what about this train?" Chase asked.

"What about it?" The big dog spoke.

"We're all really going to the North Pole... aren't we?" Chase asked again.

"Aren't we?" The small dog questioned back.

"Are you saying that this is all some sort of dream?" Sweetie guessed.

"You said it, kid. Not me," The small dog said. She snatched Sweetie's drink out of her paws and drank it all.

"So.. let's go find that girl!" The big dog exclaimed. He and the small dog began to journey down into the snowy abyss on top of the train. But before they got any farther, the two turned around to Chase and Sweetie.

"One other thing. Do you believe in ghosts?" The small dog asked. Chase and Sweetie both shook their heads. "Interesting..." She and the big dog carried on.

"Wait," Chase called out. He and Sweetie stood up. Sweetie is still between Chase. Chase wrapped a paw around Sweetie and began walking them both down the path. "Wait!"

The two hobos disappeared.

Chase and Sweetie started to push through the storm. But it was getting harder and harder to keep going.

"This... this can't be a dream? Right?" Sweetie wondered.

"I'm... not sure..." Chase was beyond confused. Was this real? Is this a dream? He had so many unanswered questions.

Sweetie held on to Chase, while Chase protectively cover her body. Neither knew what to do or believe anymore. They both sat there in silence. Until the train's whistle blew long and hard. Followed by some loud yelling. Chase and Sweetie looked up and saw the two hobos coming back. Both on skis.

"Kids, get your heads out of the clouds!" The big dog said. "Wake up, kids! There's no sleepwalking on the Polar Express."

"We gotta jump them knuckles!" The smaller dog exclaimed. She jumped off of her skis and went onto the bigger dog's skis. "Get on, hurry!"

Chase and Sweetie didn't waste time. They both got onto the skis. Chase in the back, while Sweetie was in the front.

"That skirt you two are chasing must have moved on ahead," The bigger dog said as he and the smaller dog began moving ahead together. Chase and Sweetie followed, carefully matching each other's steps.

"We gotta hightail it to the hog, pronto!" The small dog said.

"The hog?" Sweetie questioned.

"The engine. The engine, you tenderfoots!" The big dog yelled. "We gotta make it to the top before we hit Flat Top Tunnel."

"How come?" Chase asked.

The big dog sighed. "So many questions."

"There is but one inch of clearance between the roof of this rattler... and the roof of Flat Top Tunnel," The small dog explained with seriousness. "Savvy?"

All four of them looked ahead, they saw that the train was starting to head uphill.

"It's just the run-up to the hump, kids? This will be interesting," The big dog said.

The four of them began to slide backward as the train went uphill. The hobos were able to stop themselves by grabbing onto a ladder rail on top of the train. The same couldn't be said for Chase and Sweetie, who had nothing to grab onto.

"Ruff! Grappling hook!" Chase's grappling hook appeared back out again. He shot it forward and was able to latch onto the front of the train car. He held on tightly as the train went steeper uphill. But not too long after, the train started to go down. The four of them now began to slide forward.

"You two are in for a while ride!" The two hobos cheered as they jumped the first train car.

"Sweetie, jump!" Chase said. The two of them jumped at the same time and landed safely onto the next train car. They did this every time as they got closer and closer to the engine. But at the same time, Flat Top Tunnel was fast approaching.

"There's only one trick to this, you two," The big dog said as they got closer. "When we say jump.."

"You jump!" The two hobos said at the same time as they disappeared into thin air. Chase and Sweetie were shocked but had bigger issues to think of.

Chase and Sweetie made one last jump. Both of them screamed as they both landed in the train's tender. They slid down the massive pile of coal, coming to a stop when they reached the bottom.

Sweetie pulled herself up and looked around. She didn't see Chase. "Chase?" She called out as she began looking for him.

"Right here..." Chase grunted as he pushed himself up, but struggled to do so. Sweetie ran up to him and helped him stand up. "Man, that hurt."

"Hurt?" Sweetie wondered. She barely felt a thing when she jumped in. That's when she realized something. She was still wearing Chase's bulletproof vest. It had protected her from having a rougher landing.

"Are you ok? Where does it hurt?" Sweetie asked, concerned for the police pup.

"I'm fine, Sweetie. I've taken harder hits. Quite literally," Chase chuckled.

"Chase..." Sweetie sighed. Suddenly, she caught a new scent. She sniffed the air a bit. Her eyes widened when she identified the smell. "Blood..." Sweetie looked at Chase's chest. A small patch of blood was seeping through Chase's bandages. "Chase, you're bleeding!"

"Huh?" Chase looked down and saw that he was indeed bleeding. "Shoot. Must've ripped a stitch."

"Oh, no. This isn't good. You could get an infection," Sweetie said concerned. She took Chase's vest off and handed it back to him. "Put your vest back on. It'll cover the wound until we can get it properly stitched again."

"But Sweetie, you'll freeze," Chase said with worry.

"I don't care. Your injuries are more important than me being cold," Sweetie told him. "Put it back on, please."

Chase sighed and put his vest back on. "Sorry."

Sweetie was surprised by his apology. "For what?"

"Well, for two things," Chase started. "One for your tiara, and the other for not telling you about my stitches."

"Chase..." Sweetie sighed. "I'm upset that you didn't tell me. But I'm not going to be mad at you," Sweetie hugged him. "And I can get another tiara. It was plastic anyway."

"But I still broke my promise," Chase said sadly.

"Chase, I know whatever the reason, it was too personal to bring up. I understand," Sweetie said. "Look, let's talk about this more later. Right now, we need to find that girl."

"Right," Chase nodded. He and Sweetie were about to enter the engine, but Sweetie stopped right at the entrance. "Sweetie?"

"One last thing," Sweetie said. She turned around and leaned towards Chase, planting her lips on his cheek. Chase blushed like a rose. His heart raced and his tail wagged excitedly. Same with Sweetie. Neither could help but feel happy next to each other.

"That's for saving me," Sweetie told him. She then kissed his other cheek. "That's for keeping me warm," That was all Sweetie was going to do, but she somehow found the bravery to give Chase a peck on the lips. Chase was stunned. He wasn't expecting to be kissed by her again. Much less at all.

"W-What was that for?" Chase asked.

Sweetie smiled at him. "Just 'cause. Thank you."

"I... You're welcome," Chase smiled back. "Anything for you, princess."

"How charming," Sweetie said, rolling her eyes with a smirk. She and Chase walked into the engine. "Come on, let's go find that-"

Sweetie cut herself off when she saw Hero-Girl sitting in the driver's seat of the train, about to blow the whistle. "Excuse me?!" Sweetie exclaimed. Hero-Girl jumped, surprised to see Chase and Sweetie. "You're driving the train?!"

"Y-Yeah," Hero-Girl replied nervously.

"Wait a minute," Sweetie turned around. The distance between the coal bunker and the engine was not that far at all. "How did you not notice us? We were talking for a good few minutes."

Hero-Girl shrugged. "I don't know. I didn't hear a thing."

"Didn't hear a thing?" Chase questioned. He and Sweetie looked at each other. They were both beyond confused. How did she not notice them? Better yet, why didn't they notice her?

"Nevermind that for now. What in the world are you doing up here?" Sweetie asked.

"They put me in charge. The engineer had to check the light." Hero-Girl told them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, up at the front of the train, a greyhound, the engineer, and a bulldog, the driver, were trying to put a new lightbulb in on the train's smokebox.

"Here's the light!" The Engineer said as he reached to give it to the Driver. "Careful."

The Driver tried to grab the light, but it ended up slipping through his fingers. The light bounced around in his hand before going up. "I got it!" the Driver said as he leaped up to catch the light. Unfortunately, he landed right on the engineer's paw, causing him to scream loudly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"That can't be legal, right?" Sweetie turned to Chase. "There's no way this is legal!"

"There are so many laws being broken here," Chase said, shaking his head. "Do you even know what you're doing?" He asked Hero-Girl.

"Yeah, it's easy. I'll show you," Hero-Girl said. She pointed to a big lever hanging from the top. "This beg lever here, that's the throttle," She then pointed to a small handle right in front of her. "This little one here, that's the break," She pointed to three dials. "Those are the pressure gauges," And lastly, she pointed to a rope cord handing above. "And that rope is the whistle."

"The whistle?" Sweetie questioned.

Hero-Girl nodded. "Wanna try it?"

"Hmm, it's tempting," Sweetie said as she looked at the rope above. It was very high up. At least to her, it was. "I can't really reach it though." Before she knew it, she was being lifted up to the rope. Sweetie looked down and saw that Chase was the one who picked her up. "Chase?"

"Go on, I know you want to," Chase smirked.

"I..." Sweetie blushed. "Fine," Sweetie grabbed the rope and pulled it hard. The train gave out a long and loud whistle. "Ok, I have to admit. I've always wanted to do this!" Sweetie pulled the cord again.

Back up front, the engineer and driver were able to put in the new light. But when the driver looked ahead, he could see something in the distance. Something in the middle of the track! He yelped. Scaring the engineer and causing him to jump up, only for his head to get stuck inside the train's bell. The Driver hurried over and climbed the side of the train and began yelling.

"Stop the train! Stop the train!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. "Stop! The! Train!"

Chase, Sweetie, and Hero-Girl could barely make out what he was saying, but after a few more yells from him, they finally figured out what he was saying.

"They want us to stop the train," Hero-Girl said.

"Which one is the brake?" Chase asked.

"He told me this was," Hero-Girl said, pointing to the bronze lever.

Chase saw it, but right next to it was a red one. "Are you sure it isn't this one? It looks like a brake."

"No, no, he said this was the brake," Hero-Girl said again.

"Are you sure?" Chase asked.

Hero-Girl became nervous. "Uh..."

"Are you sure?!" Chase asked again.

Hero-Girl didn't reply. Instead, she just covered her face with her paws.

Chase put his paws on the red lever. Sweetie closed her eyes, afraid of what will happen. Chase looked back at the bronze lever, as Hero-Girl peaked through her paws to see what was going on. Chase made his decision. He quickly grabbed the bronze lever and pulled it.

The train's wheels screeched on the rails. The Driver lost his balance upfront. He grabbed the Engineer's hind legs to keep him upright, pulling the engineer out of the bell and on top of the light. Once the train came to a stop, he was met face to face with a large animal.

"Caribou?" The Driver said confused. The caribou snorted in the Driver's face. The Driver shook his head. "Ugh."

"I swear, this train has top quality NAPA brakes," Sweetie said.

"I'll say," Chase replied. The two looked outside the cab of the train to see what was ahead. They were shocked, to say the least.

"THERE CAN BE NO CHRISTMAS WITHOUT THE POLAR EXPRESS ARRIVING ON TIME!" A voice shouted loudly. It was the Conductor, traveling down the coal bunker. "AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT?" The Conductor spotted Chase and Sweetie and glared angrily at them. "YOU TWO! I SHOULD'VE KNOWN!"

The Conductor walked up to them furiously. Though Chase and Sweetie weren't afraid. "Are you two and determined that this train never reaches the North Pole?"

"So child endangerment," Chase began listing off. "Child labor, child kidnapping, unsupervised machinery, illegal crossing of trains, negligence, and mass animal genocide. Sounds like you want to be on the naughty list.

"What are you on about?" The Conductor said as he looked outside the cab of the train. "Caribou crossing?!"

The Conductor, Chase, Sweetie, and Hero-Girl all climbed out of the cab of the train and walked on the platform to the front. There were thousands, if not millions of caribou on the tracks.

"I make that herd to be at least 100,000, maybe even a million. It's gonna be hours before they clear this track!" The Driver exclaimed.

"A tough nut to crack," The Engineer said.

"We're in some serious jelly," The Conductor said.

"And a jam," The Driver followed.

"Tight spot," The Engineer joined.

Sweetie was starting to get irritated with them.

"Up a creek."

"Up a tree."

"Lost in the grass."

"I'll tell you what's grass our a-"

Sweetie let out a high-pitched howl. Causing everyone to look at her in surprise. "Will you two shut up!"

Suddenly, the caribou whined back at Sweetie and huffed in her face. This surprised everyone.

"Did he just... talk back to me?" Sweetie growled.

"Uh-oh, she's getting mad," Chase said worriedly. He turned to everyone else. "You all might wanna cover your ears."

They all did, except Chase. Sweetie howled back, even louder than the first time. But still, the caribou whined back at her louder. But it did take a step back.

"Not going down without a fight, huh?" Sweetie said, glaring at the caribou in front of her.

Chase brought out his megaphone and put it in front of Sweetie. "Go ahead."

Sweetie took a deep breath and let out the loudest howl she had ever given. Chase's megaphone made her howl twice as loud. When she finished, the caribou whined at her again as it and the rest of the caribou began to clear the tracks.

Sweetie coughed, her throat hurting from the howling. She rarely ever howls, or even bark for that matter. She was normally quiet, when she wasn't stealing stuff, that is.

"Are you ok?" Chase asked as he lightly patted her back.

"Y-Yeah," Sweetie replied, coughing a few more times before she got herself together. "I should be asking you that. You didn't cover your ears once. Why is that?"

Chase shrugged. "I don't know. Your howling didn't really bother me. It sounded kinda cute."

"C-Cute?" Sweetie stuttered in shock.

"Yeah. I mean, your voice normally is cute, and-" Chase realized what he was saying and stopped himself from going forward. "I'm making things weird again, huh?"

"N-No I..." Sweetie felt her heart beating loudly. All the compliments Chase has given her have made her very... happy? 'Am I in love with him?' Sweetie thought as she looked at Chase directly in the eyes. Unable to look away now. Despite their past, Chase has been very protective of her. He showed her kindness, love, care, and affection. Things Sweetie has lacked for a long time. Not only that, ever since they've been together, her loneliness has been non-existent.

'Yes, yes I did.'

Chase was having a similar experience. The more time the two spent with each other, the more Chase kept praising her. Even going as far as letting her know. 'How could I not? She's perfect?' Chase knew the Sweetie in front of him wasn't like the one he typically knew. She's caring, strong, smart, beautiful, and a whole lot more. Chase had already come to terms that he had fallen for the white terrier, but his thought was brought back to what his best friend told him.

'Name starts with an S?' Chase thought back. He looked at the terrier in front of him, admiring all of her beauty. 'I don't know if it was you...'

'But god I hope it's you.'

Seeing the situation ahead of them clear, The Conductor made a final verdict. "Problem solved. "All ahead, slow."

Before I head off, I'm sure you guys are wondering 'Why two hobos? The movie only had one.' The that I say A, copyright laws. And B, the Hobo is supposed to represent Hero-Boy's doubt in the movie. Since Chase and Sweetie are both filling the role of Hero-Boy, it makes sense to have two. That's all for now.

Smile :)
