chapter one: extra credit

ELEANOR, OR -as she preferred to be called- Ellie, was once told that she was the prettiest girl on the Isle of the Lost -which was the second highest compliment besides 'the baddest of them all'-, even compared to her twin sister Evie. At one time, the titled was something she was immensely proud of, but in Auradon she quickly learned that beauty wasn't everything of you didn't have the brains to match it.

Ellis gathered that she just wasn't like rhe Auradon born girls in that sense -she couldn't do basic arithmetic, or spall large words or even answer questions in fairy godmother a goodness class-. She wasn't like her sister Evie either, who born with both beauty and brains -which she wasted by playing dumb to catch herself a prince while her sister struggled to comprehend most of what was being taught- and it was painfully obvious when the end of their first year rolled around.

While Evie and the others would be off on a yacht, touring the lands with Belle, Beast and Ben, Ellie would be stuck in their dorm room, attempting to boost her shitty grades into slightly less shitty ones, so she could graduate with her friends the following year.

It was an upsetting affair to say the least when the day came for them to set sail.

Ellie had accompanied them to the royal port, where she gave a tearful goodbye to her sister -they'd never been apart for more than a few hours, let alone weeks- after hugging her friends tightly, even Ben, and telling them all to wear their life vests, even when they're inside.

The girl had to even pull Doug away from Evie so as not delay their departure, and after a second round of hugs and 'wish you were coming's', the group boarded the ship, sparing no last looks at the pair left behind as the large vessel pulled away from the dock.

After a moment, the pair turned away from the water and began the trek back to the village, talking all the way.

"Are you going to be okay by yourself at the dorms?" Doug asks after making plans to help her study more, he was doing it for Evie's sake. "I heard Chad is doing summer school too, and he's been an even bigger creep than usual since Audrey used him like that.." He looks at the girl beside him, she was slender and weak, and though she came from tje isle, when he was sure there were bigger creeps than Chad, he still worried. "You could always stay at my house, my dad wouldn't mind the company, and my uncle's would love you."

Ellis held back a snort. She was stupid, not dumb, and smart enough to know that his uncle's would despise her, and his father would probably forbid her from entering their yard. She was an Isle kid afterall, and not all of the common Auradon folk were as accepting as the nobility were.

She was tempted to call him dumb, but decided against offending him, he was only trying to be kind, which was second nature to Auradon folk it seemed. Instead, she turned to him with what she hoped was a kind smile, starting to venture off towards Auradon Prep as they neared tbe center pf town. "I wouldn't want to be a bother, Doug. Besides, I'll uave less distractions if I'm alone..and I can handle Chad." He was too scared to even look at her ever since she'd gotten back at him for what he'd done to Evie. "Thank you for the offer though, I'll see you tomorrow at the library, okay?"

Against his better judgement, Dough doesn't persist on the matter and watches her disappear up the hill before veering off to the right, towrads home. He figured he ought to trust her, she wasn't an Auradon girl, she was used to protecting her.

Ellie made quick work of the rest of her walk, arriving in front of the dorms just before noon. She stopped, staring up at the magic bronze statue of King Beast for a long moment before turning to look behind her, staring off into the distance. If she looked hard enough, she could just make put the fat, gray storm clpuds that were permanently parked over the isle of the lost, and for a long, dark moment, a part of her deep down inside yearned for the comforting ruin of the crumbling castle she had grown up in, of the feel of her mother's arls around ger. She yearned for home..

With a quick shake of her head, the teen shook the thought from her mind. "This is home now." She reminded herself, turning back towrads the dorm house and leaving the past behinf her. "Your mom probably doesnt even miss you, don't be stupid."

Ellie made quick and quiet work of climbing the stairs, hoping not to attract the attention of Chad if he was around only to ge pleasantly annoyed when she stepped intp the room she shared with Evie and Mal.

Sprawled across her bed was a tall, blonde haired prince that was probably stupider than she was -despite having more of an education than her- and he was wearing an eerily terrifying smirk on his face.

"What are you doing in the girls' dorms, Chad?" She asks, leaving the door open.

"I hear you need extra credit," The boy says, sitting up. He was about to make an offer she couldn't refuse. "I can get it for you, on one condition.."
