End Of The Line

"I can't believe she said that."

Charlotte sat staring at her phone in complete awe at what she was watching.

Although, what she was watching she had already seen. Plenty of times.

"Who?"

"Becky! Did you see her promo from the other week with Shayna?"

Alexa, who'd spoken before, only sighs before responding, "no. I didn't. I'm not caught up on some things yet"

"She did the same thing she always does! That stupid little taunt she always says.."

While Charlotte complains and eyes the video once more, she's drawn to stare at everything on Becky besides the taunt she claims is so stupid.

"Oh, wow" Alexa briefly and boredly enthuses from her phone, not really wanting to talk about Becky, but afraid Charlotte would insist by continuing the conversation.

"I just think it's so funny how she—"

"'Kay, do you miss her, or something?" Alexa interrupts Charlotte, making her pause. This is exactly what she meant.

"Excuse me?" Charlotte asks almost offended. Wanting to be sure she was actually asked what she thought she was asked as she turned her head to look at her.

"What is the matter with you?" Alexa shakes her head as she looked her way, "Do you miss her?"

"W—hat? No! I don't miss her!" Charlotte dismisses almost immediately.

"Don't play dumb with me. You talk about her every chance you get. She could be walking down the street not thinking a damn thing about you, and you'd find a way to know about it" Alexa interrogates her as she repositioned herself to be more sat. The frustration she had been holding back came bursting through.

"That's not true" Charlotte defends herself. She just liked to keep up with Becky.

It didn't matter to her that they didn't talk. Not even a passing 'hi' in the hallways. Or a text once in a while. Nothing. Besides work?

Nothing.

For years.

"Yes it is, Ashley! Jesus Christ. You do it every night! Every day! I feel like you only do it when you're around me for goodness sake's!" Alexa's voice raises. She was getting really tired of this.

"Look, I'm sorry—I don't think I do it that much! If you don't want me to say anything, then tell me!" Charlotte's shoulders sink as does her mood, "c'mon, Lexi, this is ridiculous"

"Yes! It is ridiculous Ashley! I've asked you many times to tone it down! Why would I wanna hear you moan and complain and obsess over your ex, huh?? I'm your girlfriend. I don't want anything to do with that" Alexa pockets her phone before getting off the bed and quickly walking to her suitcase to stuff it with whatever she could grab quickly enough.

"Oh, Lex, don't do that" Charlotte turns her body to her before standing immediately once she noticed what she was doing, "ugh, please? C'mon—" she reaches her hand out to stop her from packing her things.

"Get off me!" Alexa snatched her arm away from her before giving her a dirty look. One that stuns Charlotte to where she must sit.

"I've thought for a long while that you don't even wanna be with me anymore" Lexi's sentences become breathy from her quick movements while eyeing Charlotte as if she's prey.

"This is too much for me. Once you get your shit together, and I mean really get it together, then you can decide to talk to me. But now? Please, leave me alone until you get over her"

"You're crazy, you're taking this too far. Where are you even gonna go?"

"I'm taking it too far??" Alexa almost yells now, "take a look in the mirror, then you'll really see who's crazy" without another look, she walks to leave the room.

"I am—!" the door slams, stopping Charlotte's words, "..over her" she murmurs.

Charlotte just stared at the door. She couldn't even believe what just happened or how it happened so quickly.

She really didn't think she talked about Becky so often. Not so much to where it would make her girlfriend freak out like that anyway, right?

She didn't even like Becky as a person anymore, right?

After brand splits, brand switches, countless times of crossing each other in storylines and other, very personal, things, Becky would not give her the time of day anymore.

So, Charlotte didn't care. That's what she wanted to believe anyway.

Besides, what would she miss Becky for? Their relationship was long long ago, had a bitter end, and the friendship they tried to keep after was a completely different story that didn't last very long either. Becky surely wasn't thinking about her.

So, why couldn't Charlotte stop thinking about her?

She doesn't know why.

She doesn't know much of anything.

She doesn't have much control over her actions either as she felt herself stand up quicker than she can comprehend to rush out of her own room on a journey to find her current foe's.

Shooting a text to her dear friend Sasha, she knew she would have the information she needed.

"hey are you up?"

"wsup?"

"you know becky's room number?"

Charlotte knew for a fact Sasha and Becky were still friends.

There was always something that ate away at her about how close they seemed to be. After everything, and after all those years.

But why would she care? She isn't supposed to care.

"? you two talk again?"

"something like that"

Charlotte didn't know what she was running on, but it was far more dangerous that adrenaline. Even adrenaline would be able to stop her from making dumb decisions.

"she's at 519"

"thank you thank you thank you"

With that, Charlotte puts her phone back at her side as she strode to the room she was told about.

If any thought she was having were logical, they'd be telling her to turn the hell around as fast as she could.

But they didn't, so she faced the door.

How was she going to do this?

Tell her, 'hey, I saw what you did the other day'?

'Hey, I'm not sure what I'm doing here, but I felt like I had to see you'?

'Hey, I secretly miss you'?

She didn't know. Yet she knocked.
.
.
.
"About time you—oh" Becky opens the door with a warm smile before it quickly faded once she realized who was standing there.

"Um. What are you doing here?"

Ouch. The dreaded question. What was she doing there?

"Uhm..." shit.

"..Just—just to say hi" Charlotte swallows the lump in her throat after she spoke, staring her dead in the face with an expression Becky couldn't read.

She didn't want to read it. She didn't want her there at all.

Becky's eyes flick down from her throat to her face again.

"Hi" Smiling a quick sarcastic one, she moves back in a rush to shut the door.

"Wait!" Charlotte puts her foot between the door, wincing at Becky's force as she didn't bother to stop.

"What?" Becky complains, opening it again to look at her, "what do you want? I don't really wanna talk to you right know, you know"

"Who are you waiting for?"

"What?" Becky questions before reevaluating how she answered the door, obviously expecting someone different. "Oh. Well, wouldn't you like to know?" she only shakes her head with a smile of almost disbelief.

"Is it Seth? I bet it is. Are you two together, really?? That wasn't just a stunt last year?" Charlotte fires off an array of questions—ridiculous ones to Becky, might she add.

"Why, Ashley, why? You've come to get intel on my personal relationships, really?" Becky chuckles an unfriendly one at her, still in disbelief.

"Why are you here, seriously? Do you miss me?" Becky asks seriously, but her tone seemed like it was mocking her.

"No, no I don't miss you, goddammit!" This accusation was really getting under Charlotte's skin. She couldn't bring herself to say that she did. Save her the embarrassment.

Of what? Holding onto her.

"So if I close this door, then what?" the tip of her head was done in a cocky manner as Becky's eyes never left her face.

"You close the door, and I—"

"You walk away, deal?" Charlotte is interrupted once again tonight.

"No! No deal" she declines, "absolutely not, I came all this way to talk to you"

Becky closes her eyes and takes a deep breath to keep her composure together.

"Then talk, Ashley. Tell me why you're at my door. Or I'm going to close it on you."

"For you"

Becky could have laughed at this, but keeps it under wraps to stay serious.

"For what, what's so special about me right now?"

Charlotte can't hide how she really feels anymore. She would have came all this way for nothing if she didn't just spit it out. Even if she gets a punch to the gut, or so much rejection she could die of embarrassment, she's gotta let the cat out the bag.

"I do" she pauses, afraid to choke over her words. Not because she would cry just yet, but because she hasn't admitted this to anyone. Barely even herself.

"...Miss you. I do, and—and Lexi's telling me I'm going crazy because I always talk about you, and something's missing inside me. It has been since you left me. I don't know what it is. I need you"

Now Charlotte could feel tears looming behind her eyes as she talked and after she finished. This whole thing was on her, but if this was the same Becky she knew, she knows the forgiveness is there. Even if it was a long shot.

Becky doesn't say anything. She's thinking, but nothing is there. The only thing that comes after an uncomfortable amount of time, is the realization that she can't buy into whatever she's telling her. It being true or not.

"How dare you" she can finally speak after registering what was just told. Her voice was quieter.

Charlotte wasn't expecting that to be a question. She was expecting to be swept off her feet to a happy ending.

"..What?"

"How...fuckin' dare you say you need me? Or you miss me?! When you had me, what'd you do? Hurt me. Many times. I thought I made that clear to you once I told you goodbye the last time."

Becky was fuming. At the fact that Charlotte found out where she was somehow, and had the audacity to tell her everything she was saying. If she even gave her any more attention, she'd risk being hurt again. Which is something she will not allow.

"I couldn't and still cannot deal with you. I could barely stand you when we still talked, you made everything so easy, so hard for me. I mean look at you!" Becky rants on, waving her hands about. First there were no thoughts, and now there were too many piling up.

"Lexi was right, you are crazy. Why would you think I'd let you back into my life after what you did to me?"

"W—what??" This definitely was an evolved woman since the last time they spoke. This decline was harsh. Even if she did deserve it, it hurt.

She was human too, wasn't she?

"Please, just one more. One more fucking chance!" Charlotte begins to plead at this point. The tears that were taunting her before, finally fell like pocket change.

"I love you! I still do, I never stopped. It was supposed to be me and you against the world, Rebecca"

"Don't" Becky raises one of her hands up to dismiss the use of her real name, "try to win me over that way. I know what you're trying to do" she glares at her. The walls were up, and they were up firmly. No way could she let herself be played once again.

"You couldn't appreciate me this much when I was with you, huh? I don't wanna hear anymore of your bullshit, Ashley"

"Just hear me out! I was not—I—I was a fucking idiot, Becky! You didn't deserve what I did to you, just please, please hear me out, come on!" The tears don't stop. They go from change out a pocket, to a full on faucet.

"Was a fucking idiot?" Becky's reply is cocky as her glare didn't falter, "nah..nah, this isn't real. You seem the exact same to me. Forget I can still read you like a book? Go save your begging for somebody else. You've ran out of chances" she declares.

"No, look!" Charlotte's voice raises, the pitch certainly higher than before.

"Last time. This will be the last time. If I fuck up again, kick me to the curb. I swear! I swear—I'll be different this time, I'm nothing like I even was then, really! We can do this seriously this time! I've—"

"I'm pregnant" Becky cuts her off before she could go on. The shit? Shot.

Charlotte freezes. Her lips suddenly go dry as she has no more words to say.
.
.
.
.
.
"What?"

Many moments had passed, and the word barely came out on Charlotte's end. But, Becky knew what she asked.

"I'm having, a baby" Becky repeats. She lets her take time to process the 2 words that surely had to change her perspective on something.

Becky's gaze doesn't move, but the intensity falls flat. The look was softer. She wasn't lying.

"But you—you just had a match! That can't be true" Charlotte stumbles over her words as she shook her head. It was the quickest she had moved since she originally rushed her way to the door.

"It is"

"No, no, no, no. The match—you just had a fucking Wrestlemania match! N' live events!" Her head began pounding like an earthquake now.

"I didn't know about it then, obviously! Do you think I'm crazy?? I found out last night, why d'you think I missed tonight's show??" Becky rebuttals. She can't lie and say that didn't hurt her. Why would she have went out there if she knew?

This wasn't supposed to be difficult. Had Charlotte not come tonight and talk about this of all things, Becky would have made her find out along with the rest of the world.

Through a TV screen the following week.

"No, you're lying! You just want me to go away!" Charlotte nearly laughed right in her face as she pointed a finger Becky's way. That pounding from before? That was the shock.

"You wan' the fucking tests out the trash can??" Now Becky's voice rises as her accent shows how fed up she was getting.

"Yes! I do, I really do!" Charlotte's voice raises again too, although this time not from pleading on the verge of tears. From amusement.

Unbelievable.

Becky tried giving her a shot to walk away. She tells her something she's almost sure will make her walk away out of respect and she doesn't.

Now she was laughing in her face about this? This was disrespect she was no longer going to take as her temper finally blew like the pop of a kernel.

"You—!" Becky nearly yells at her before being stopped.

"Am I interrupting something?"

Charlotte could have recoiled at the way Becky relaxed so quickly at the voice.

The redness in Becky's face was still there, but for a much different reason. The spark in her eyes once she saw and heard nobody other than Seth speak from directly behind her, was not out of anger. It was out of...adoration.

Charlotte was supposed to be the one to make her feel that way.

"Nope! Someone was just leavin'" the immediate change in demeanor was very obvious as Becky sported a small smile his way, her posture no longer so tense.

Charlotte misses that smile. She would appreciate it far more than he ever could. This is not how they were supposed to end up. She cannot fathom that this is reality.

It never seemed all that bad to her.

"Oh, alright then" Seth knew their history, he also knew Charlotte still wanted her. On top of that all, he knew Becky wouldn't go back to her.

"Got you what you asked for" he raised a bag as he drew closer to the door. The tears in Charlotte's eyes almost returned as the two in front of her shared a quick peck after she had no choice but to move to the side for him.

She's had to move a lot for him to get closer to her in other things too.

Those things didn't ever go unnoticed to her over the years. But of course, she didn't wanna be the jealous girlfriend or the jealous friend.

She didn't suspect Becky did anything behind her back as she regretfully did herself—becoming the catalyst to the disintegration of their relationship—but something was always there.

It was always them. They were always friends. They were always close.

"Nice to see you, Ashley." Seth greets her, but she doesn't say a word back. The look she was giving him was not kind, and he didn't see it, but knew it was there. She envied him terribly, much to her dismay.

Charlotte also knew that was a lie. It wasn't nice to see her. He wasn't the biggest fan of his girlfriends ex.

She always gave him hell as of late, but to spare the awkward tension, he decided to speak to her. To play nice in front of Becky.

Although Becky herself probably wouldn't have minded if he didn't.

Looking back over her shoulder once Seth vigilantly made his way inside the room she was still blocking off to tend to something different, Becky again looks to Charlotte.

Her expression dropped as it was just the two again.

Silence.

Becky had to say, she was expecting Charlotte fierceness to return, but it didn't. This was the most peace she felt in the last 10 minutes or so.

"Finished?" She asks finally. Or what she hoped was finally.

"I didn't even get a chance to start" Charlotte's answer is quick and quiet. She has a lot of words running through her mind, but she reckons if any of them are said, she'd be digging herself into an even bigger hole.

"—and you're not gonna get it" Becky almost cuts her off once she's sure of what she's about to say.

"I need you to turn around, and go back to where you were before. You can't come to me anymore. Especially not like this"

"Becky, I—"

"Becky, nothing. You have to go" Becky speaks the words calmly and in a dismissive manner, resting her eyes closed.

Charlotte was stubborn, but not stubborn enough to stay. This Becky was different. Like a boulder she couldn't move. The acceptance was settling in.

"Behind you" Becky's eyes open then flicker behind Charlotte's shoulder, "is the only person who can get you out of this. Take your girlfriend's advice. That's all I'll give you" and with a swift step back Becky lets the door shut.

It wasn't a slam, it was shut.

In Charlotte's mind, the delusional area, a slam meant she'd be more likely to open it again, but the part of her that was making sense knew this was not the case. A slam, or a shut, meant the exact same thing tonight.

The end. The real end.

All of Becky's comments ran about in Charlotte's head. So much so she barely payed attention to the last thing she was told.

"The person behind you is the only one who can get you out of this"

As far as she knew, they were the only two there, yet she was afraid to turn around.

Knowing she couldn't sit and stare at her former partner's door for all eternity, she takes her sweet time to move and face this 'person'.

Well, Becky wasn't lying. Charlotte finds the person, and all she can do is stare and tear up.

Nobody was there. The only person there was herself in a mirror that decorated the otherwise empty hotel hallway.

Though devastated, Charlotte will take this as a green flag through the millions of red ones.

Cause, of course, the delusion won't go anywhere. No matter how hard one may pry.

Becky wants her to better herself. That must mean she cares!

Right?
