Ghost (Part 2)

I wanted to try drawing Ghost in a more realistic style, so I used a shot of Drogon from Game of Thrones as a reference for drawing this.

The first chapter got long, so the 'story so far' section continues here.

Chapter 3: Three months after the events of chapter 2, and the humans and ice dragons have been living in peace and harmony. While many dragons are cold towards humans, Ghost is very warm and protective over them, knowing this could be a step forwards towards breaking the cycle of war. However, Whitefrost returns to the kingdom heavily wounded. She runs to him- but hears the scream of a human guard being carried away by Ice Flight. A sudden anger overwhelms her, and she instinctively flies over to the dragon with the intention to stop her.

Ice Flight is shot down by poachers and lets go of the knight. Ghost swiftly saves him and places him near other humans so he could be helped (he thanks her), then goes after Ice Flight. She reaches her, and watches as Ella and another poacher shoot arrows into her. Ghost does not interfere, as anger begins to control her and she wishes the dragon to be taught a lesson (though is horrified when she has these thoughts, and becomes torn). She stops the poachers with a hail of ice from her jaws, and flies off with Ice Flight. She warns her, but realises she is coming across as too aggressive and asks her not to do it again, which Ice Flight responds with 'fine' (which was much better than what she had been expecting). Monarch arrives and berates Ice Flight. Ghost then leaves and cauterises Whitefrost's wounds to stop the bleeding. He warns her of the coming monster.

However, he sees the blizzard in the fire kingdom, as does Ghost, who becomes afraid- but then, gets a hold of herself as she realises that they must make a plan ASAP if they wish to survive. She begins to shoot questions at Whitefrost, trying to formulate a plan from the information she is given. As she realises the volcano is collapsing, she has a small breakdown and says they should find a place to hide which would be too small for the monster to enter- but Whitefrost does not know of such a place. Then, she comes up with a plan where she can lead the monster to the frozen ocean and it will fall into the water, as she is able to break the sound barrier. Molten lands next to Ghost, and Anixar approaches and asks about a plan. Ghost tells Anixar her idea, then notices Molten witnessing the volcano's collapse. Whitefrost explains that everyone must evacuate for her plan to succeed, to which she agrees. Molten argues that they must save the fire dragons, but Ghost explains that however much she wants to, she must stay as she is the one best suited for acting as monster bait. In anger, Molten flies off to the fire kingdom, and while Ghost wants to stop her, she knows that she must stay. Ozario the human approaches, eager to help- Whiteout tells him to help evacuate the humans, while Ghost adds that he should also get a team of humans with ranged weapons to get ready to fire at the ice at a kill zone, in case the monster does not break through, and to also get healers ready. Everyone evacuates. Ghost wishes Whitefrost luck and tells him not to die, spreading her wings as she gets ready to go to the frozen ocean. It hits her that everyone's lives depend on her plan, and she is filled with dread.

The plan fails- the monster goes underwater and attacks Whitefrost. The two fight the monster, Ghost breaks a few ribs as she is bitten. However, she pokes the eye of the head biting her and is thrown underwater, where she sees the monster's full body- and there is a fourth head. As the monster (who is a she) attacks Whitefrost, Ghost jumps up from the water and tries to defend him. She attempts to use her usual tactic of talking things out, asking if the monster can understand her. The new head responds, but grows angry at the incomprehensible growls that come from her mouth. Ghost tries to calm her and realises that the monster can actually understand her- she then uses a system for the monster to answer yes or no questions. Through this, Ghost realises the monster kills for revenge, and she explains that such violence is not the answer, but she is still willing to help her. The monster is angered by her words, and snarls- however, Ghost does not react, and explains her logic. The monster decides to breathe fire on them, and she and Whitefrost both begin to fly away. Ghost still tries to negotiate, and Whitefrost decides to stay with her when she refuses to leave. Drakusana comes and tries to talk, but is attacked- Ghost tells the monster to stop, but Drakusana explains that she does not listen to reason. Ghost asks Drakusana for information, and learns the monster was a dragon who had a relationship with an already taken male, and she and her three eggs were cursed to become a monster. As Ghost asks if they can try to break the curse without killing anyone, all three are snatched up by the heads of the monster.

Ghost orders to be let go, and the monster releases Ghost and Whitefrost- however, Drakusana is not released. Ghost realises the monster is on thin ice, and after giving her two warnings (to which the monster does not comply), she breaks the ice and flies away- however, her wing claw is bitten off by one of the heads. As the monster falls, she starts to have a breakdown, apologising over and over, while Whitefrost tries to protect her. The monster climbs back on the ice, gives her an angry look, then leaves. Ghost and Whitefrost head to the other side of the ocean, neither speaking a word, until they reach the crystal caverns.

Whitefrost notices Ghost is angry, and gives her her cucumber. She, however, is unable to control her anger anymore, and explodes, angry at the monster as well as herself. Whitefrost tries to calm her and acts sympathetic to the monster, and Ghost snaps and argues the opposite side of the debate, thinking that sometimes, punishment was necessary. Ghost requests to be left alone, and Whitefrost respects this and leaves to the new kingdom. Ghost feels like she is being watched- which evolves into two things watching her. Eventually, she notices Ice Flight, which she acts a bit aggressive towards, though Ice Flight retreats into the deep end of the cave which surprises Ghost (and makes her feel a bit bad). Ghost then releases her anger (much to the annoyance of Ice Flight) out on the crystals, even causing a sonic boom at some point, until she ends up falling asleep. Whitefrost comes and gives both of the now sleeping dragons some deer meat, but Ghost remains asleep. However, Ghost experiences sleep paralysis and is left shaken. Ice Flight leaves, and Ghost sees a huge eye watching her from the mouth of the cave. She cries out, alerting both Alex and Ice Flight, but the eye disappears. Alex investigates, and Ghost falls into hysterics. As she runs, she bumps into something that isn't there, and the giant monster reveals himself to her. She freezes, and he reaches out to her, only to take a crystal from behind her back and eat it. The two stare at each other, and then, the monster disappears.

Alex notices, and wishes to find out more about the monster- Ghost approaches him, and the two decide to work together to discover more about it. They gather a pile of crystals, and the monster appears before them. The eyes on its head glows, and its scales ripple in and out of camouflage as it telekinetically picks up the crystals and places them elsewhere. Then it disappears. Suddenly, both Alex and Ghost are pulled up into the air- the monster's eyes start glowing again, though only parts of its head is visible. As it growls at them, Alex becomes nervous and flames appear across his arm as he gets ready to use his fire powers- however, Ghost nervously asks him to calm down as she was scared the monster would be angered. Alex stops, and after a few moments, the monster puts them down. Noticing the agitated people in the distant camps who were beginning to suspect something, he flies away and leaves both Ghost and Alex behind.

Ghost and Alex separate, Alex continuing his search for Pangaea, and Ghost leaving to go back to camp. She finds herself a cave of her own, and places her cucumber inside it. She is later seen near the human kingdom of Hu'rath.
