GENERAL COMMENTS

Four Suits (FS) was my very first attempt at writing a fantasy novel. I'd never written a fantasy novel before this, so it was definitely a learning curve.

Can I just say, worldbuilding is a lot of work, oh my god TvT I had countless sleepless nights just trying to figure out how the world worked, the character backstories, the magic system, and everything in between. The fact I used a card theme in this book wasn't the most creative, but I still tried to make it as unique as possible. Though, if I'm being honest, the worldbuilding that's in this book is just the bare-bones version of the world I planned. It's supposed to be a lot more fleshed out as the story progresses, especially in the sequel since there are other suit kingdoms we have yet to explore.

Since this is the only fantasy novel on my account, you can probably tell this genre doesn't come easy to me at all haha. I have many ideas for future fantasy works, but finding the motivation to write them is tough :')

Generally, though, it makes me extremely happy when people tell me they liked the story ;v; Leda, Orian, Ro, and Avel all have a special place in my heart. They're some of my favourite characters I've ever written, honestly.

➊ Four Suits started off as a NaNoWriMo project for me back in 2017. The original draft of that was written in first person POV and was riddled with plot holes, and that's why I decided to rewrite the whole thing in 2020–2021. I posted it on Wattpad when doing so which helped motivate me a lot.

➋ I remember while writing the chapters that took place in Straeh, I got stuck for a long time and didn't know how to proceed. Through my writer's block, I ended up making the Hearts all psychologically deranged. Originally, they were supposed to be sweeter and kinder and a lot more sane.

I have to say though, making them all convoluted psychopaths made the story infinitely more interesting LOL. That particular plot twist definitely took Four Suits to the next level and made it a thousand times better. Like, imagine if I went with my original idea and made the Hearts all boringly sweet?

➌ A couple of readers caught on and commented about it, but the names of the main kingdoms are backwards!

Edaps = Spade
Straeh = Hearts
Revolc = Clover

Dia is the exception—the kingdom itself is called Dia and the citizens, Monds.

If I could go back in time, I'd definitely come up with more creative names for the kingdoms. Or even just leave it as the Spade, Heart, Clover, and Dia Kingdom. I was trying to be unique but all these years later, it just really bothers me for some reason 😂✋ To be edited one day!

The OG cover (top left) will forever be my favourite.

Believe it or not, it was the first cover I ever made for it back in 2017. It was completely by accident too. I can't even remember how I made it. Or the exact font I used for the text. But to this day, it perfectly encapsulates the book. Like, I love it so much that if I were to publish it into a physical copy in the future, I'd want that exact cover.

Even though my cover-making skills have improved drastically since then, all the covers I've ever made after that can't even compare to the original. Ironic, right? LOL.
