- The Academy Children are ranked by usefulness, Luther, whilst not the most powerful, is the most obedient, whilst Vanya, who is the most powerful is less likely to follow orders and the rules, she is also the most uncontrollable and emotionally fragile. Kit is powerful in her own right, and she is by far the most diplomatic, loyal and the most resilient making her extremely useful as part of the Academy team, which is why she is Reginald's Number Three.

Personality:

Kit is a quiet, shy, and loyal young woman, which often causes people to forget just how incredibly powerful she is. Before she gets to know someone, she can be nervous and awkward around them, but once she warms up to them, Kit becomes confident and charming with a very dry sense of humor.

Growing up, Kit was devoted to helping her brothers and sisters in the Academy in any way she can, even putting her own life on the line to protect them.

Kit is also a very street-smart girl who quickly gained proficiency in her powers.

Kit became one of the Academy's strongest fighters and often fights alongside her brother, Diego.

However, she is prone to insecurity, especially regarding her relationships with her family; when this insecurity is combined with frustration at being unable to do something, Kit's first instinct is often to simply give up.

As a partner and companion, Kit is an invaluable asset. She will defend those she loves and cares for at any cost and her loyalty is unshakeable.

Physical Appearance

Kit is a beautiful, petite young woman with long, wavy black hair, dark brown almond-shaped eyes, and pale skin. Her sense of style is off-beat yet comfortable, often wearing off-the-shoulder tops with skater skirts and leggings or fishnets, paired with a denim or black leather jacket and combat boots. She wears very little makeup, aside from black or red nail polish, and occasionally wears rings or chain necklaces as well.

Early Life:

Kit Hargreeves is one of forty-three children born simultaneously to mothers with no previous signs of pregnancy on the twelfth hour of October 1st, 1985. She is adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves and designated as his "Number Three."

The Umbrella Academy

At the age of thirteen, the children of the Umbrella Academy make their first public appearance, stopping a robbery at the Capital West Bank. Once the Academy has successfully stopped the robbery, Sir Reginald introduces the world to the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy, but only mentions that he adopted seven children, rather than eight.

All of the children, except for Vanya, were given umbrella tattoos on their wrists. In an effort to help her feel included, Vanya drew one on her own wrist in permanent marker.

Leaving the Academy

After the death of Ben, the Umbrella Academy started to dissolve with many of the Hargreeves children leaving.

Powers:

Empathic Illusion Casting: Kit has the power to create three-dimensional images of certain visual concepts from thoughts and emotional impressions within the minds of herself and others. Originally, Kit could only create images of the objects of other people's greatest fears.

Later, she learned how to reach into another person's subconscious and project an image of the object of that person's "heart's desire."

Still later, under Reginald's further training, Kit learned to use her power to derive and project more specific images from another person's mind that were unrelated to such strong emotional states. Moreover, she learned how to project such images around herself and others in order to alter the appearance of herself and others. For example, once she and Diego, neither dressed impressively at the time, had to find Klaus at a stylish hotel. In order that she and Diego would look as if they belonged in the hotel, Kit made herself and Diego look like the desk clerk's mental image of the ideal wealthy guests for the hotel.

Despite the fact that Kit has to probe a person's subconscious in order to discover the mental image she wishes to project, she isn't a true telepath. Although she can consciously initiate the mental probing in order to find and project an image, the probing process itself isn't governed by her conscious mind. Hence, Kit does not consciously know what the image she seeks in another person's mind is (in any more detail than that it is the image of the object of their greatest fear, or that it is the image of his or her ideal customer, or whatever) until its image actually appears in the three-dimensional form before her.

The three-dimensional images that Kit causes to appear are similar to holograms, although they are created by psionic energy rather than by lasers, and can be seen by anyone in their vicinity. However, only the people from whom Kit derived the images would perceive them as "real," indistinguishable from the real persons or objects they portrayed. To other people, the images were recognizable as immaterial illusions.

Kit can use her power to derive and project mental images on several people at once. Each "victim" would see a different image, corresponding to his or her own individual concept of the kind of image that Kit sought. If, for example, she sought to make a group of people each see the object of their greatest fear, probably each person in the group would see an image of a different person or thing.

The seeming materialization of the object of his or her greatest fear or desire invariably had immediate emotional impact on the person from whom Kit had drawn the image she projected. Kit's images dissolve and cease to exist as soon as she ceases to maintain sufficient concentration to keep them visible.

Kit was limited in the use of her power by her need to see the person from whose consciousness she derived her images. She can use her power on a person even if he or she can only be seen by Kit through binoculars. However, she can't draw images from a person who is standing only a few feet from her, but behind something, she can't see through. Nor can she derive images from a person whom she sees via live television but who isn't actually within her vicinity.

At first, Kit could not control her image projecting powers, and she would draw and project images without consciously willing to do so. However, she learned to control her power due to Reginald's guidance and her own growing maturity so that her power operated only when she willed it to do so.

Kit can also use her power to derive and project images of the objects of fear or desire from the minds of animals. The only difference is that the animal from which she derived the image would be the only being to see it. She can even use this power on fish and certain insects, although not on animals with intelligence any lower than these creatures.

Empathic Psi Powers: Kit can see into people's minds and affect their emotions.

Neural Arrows: Kit can focus her psionic powers into energy arrows which can stun an opponent by disrupting their central nervous system, or force them to relive a traumatic memory.

Pain Illusion: Kit has the ability trick an individual's mind into thinking they are experiencing burning pain. Though it causes no physical damage to the body, it is very useful and formidable in rendering whoever falls victim to it defenceless and easily targeted.

Animal Empathy: Kit can achieve a quasi-telepathic rapport with higher animals including primates (but not including human beings), members of the dog and cat families (including wolves and mountain lions, for example), and birds. She can sense their feelings, consciously perceive images in their minds, and even see through their eyes. However, since an animal's ability to conceptualize is highly limited, she is limited as to what she telepathically can learn from an animal. This ability will extend to Bruce's Hulk form.
