Basically, it means the way they speak.

British accent? Fancy words? Tons of slang?

It's important for each character to have a unique dialect and way of saying things. It helps them stand out from the crowd.

There's a difference between saying

"I saw yellow vent!"

and

"How do I vent like yellow?"

Or

"I fucking hate you!!!1!"

and

"I dislike you,"

Every person speaks differently because of their experiences.

So you can't have all of your characters talk the same damn way. That's boring.

Did you hear me? BOOOOOOOOORING!!

Take these into consideration:

- Accent?

- Are they smart? If so, use big words.

- Are they not-so-smart? Use easy words.

- Do they use slang?

- Are they old?

- What's their personality? 

- Are they funny?

- Sarcastic?

And there are probably more things you should think about which I can't remember right now.
