Rebel Yell
A/N: This poem could have several connections. First, being born and bred in the Southern U.S., as well as a history buff [especially military history], I recollect the "rebel yell" of the Confederates during the Civil War [1861-65] - though I am not debating issues of the war itself. Second, being a Star Wars fan, I think about the "Rebel Scum" fighting against the evil empire. And lastly, and most important, I think of this from a spiritual perspective. Christianity is the highest form of rebellion. It is a daily war fought against the flesh, the evil in our own heart. And Jesus was a rebel in his time on earth, fighting against the Devil, against religious legalism, and most of all against the sin which oppresses mankind. He won that victory on the Cross. Hallelujah!
Rebel Yell
I, Rebel
I rebel against
the tide of human depravity
the sin magnetic gravity
the rot of the heart's cavity
and rise with piercing cry
the joy of a sinner
who walked away
and chose to die
as did the Rebel Leader
on a blood-stained cross
I, Rebel
Proclaim His name
to save the lost
Amen.
