A slight buzz from my cell phone was felt underneath my arm, which happened to bring me back into reality. With a sigh, I picked it up, when a sly smile made its way onto my lips.
"Mister Ambrosia", I breathe out.
"Crecia...", he hummed in rhythm, "How's my little ketchup packet doin' ?", he let out a hearty laughter.
"You know I won't hesitate to punch you, right?!", I hissed.
"Umm... she's feisty... over-flooded hormones, check", he snorted.
"The hell, Ezra! You just CANNOT go on calling a girl who's on her period... a freaking ketchup packet"
"Why Lucrecia?", he asked with his voice laced with a glint of playfulness, "There's quite a relevance here...", he paused for a while and then continued, "You see, you squeeze out bloo..."
I shake my head in disbelief. I vaguely recall our disastrous date night a week ago. After his heart-felt promposal, I happened to excuse myself to visit the loo when I found out that my periods paid me a lovely visit. Though I am very punctual about keeping a track on my body and health routines, but with the series of mishap that happened around me, made me forget that my date was due. On the contrary, that explains the series of serious tantrums and mood swings that had made me act the way I had never before, in front of Mister Ambrosia.
Thank God for the amount of preparedness this man had, I quickly put in a tampon that was available in one of the cabinet drawers of my bathroom. Changing my dress, I exited the bathroom and walked into my room when I saw Ezra sitting near the foot of my bed, with his face laced with an expression quite equivalent to that of worry. Carefully, I neared him when a sharp pain shot in my lower abdomen and I crunched up my face.
Looking at my pained expressions, Ezra quickly rushed by my side and held me by my shoulders. He asked me if I was okay, or that if I needed to see a doctor. It was reliving that he cared. I remember telling him that I was having my periods and that, these cramps were to last only a day or two. He looked at me as though I had grown two heads on my body and walked out of the room without saying a word. Saddened by his sudden departure, I walked over towards my bed and fell down with my face slamming into the pillows.
I let out a sigh and closed my eyes, in hopes of drifting off to sleep to take off my mind from this pain and the over-thinking phase that was about to ignite because of the flooded hormones. Halfway through my mental battle against overthinking thoughts, I heard the door of my bedroom open. With no energy to even turn around, I laid back like before; when I felt the spare side of my bed dip with some weight.
Peeping through my mid-way closed eyes, I saw Ezra trying to balance all the chocolatey goodies in his hands. Ecstatic to see food, I got up and sat back straight. I could see a small smile playing on Ezra's lips; he suddenly asked me to lay down a little and placed a heating pad on my lower abdomen and wrapped me up in some fluffy blankets. After making a human burrito out of myself, he opened a tub of chocolate chips ice-cream, and brought a spoonful of it towards my mouth, gesturing for me to open.
That night we did nothing but stayed up late; with him feeding me and wrapping me up. I wouldn't say, I haven't been on dates for a while now... but tonight, it was just perfect. Just him and I, no clauses, no expectations to woo each other. It was like we were being our real selves. If you ask me, it was quite a wilder one, because both of us were stripped to vulnerability; and maybe that is what we both needed and had searched for a long time.
I was happy amidst all this chaos around me... until he freaking called me a 'pouch of tomato ketchup'.
"The wedding is off", I cut him off.
"I have my ways to get that done... my lil ketchup"
"Tsk Tsk, Mister Ambrosia... I hope you didn't forget who you are talking to?"
"Yes I remember... Mrs. Ambrosia", he whispered.
He was aware of the effect he had on me. It's strange that things are escalating so fast yet so smoothly. Ten days back we held each other at throats, ready to split the other's apart; but look at us now. Though it is still a surprise for me how a man like him, capable of sugar-coating his words and being good at all these typical romance talks. Nonetheless, a part of me still wants me to play it safe around him.
"Keyword- soon, Mister Ambrosia"
"Three days at the most, Crecia... then you are mine. All mine", he whispered the last part.
"Why'd you call? Anything important?", I said while changing the topic.
"I just missed your voice", he laughs.
"Oh lord have mercy!", I exclaimed, "These romance talk makes me wanna gag, Mister Ambrosia"
"Well, I know a few different methods to make you gag..."
"Get your mind out of gutter", I cut him off, "No seriously Mister Ambrosia, it doesn't suit you... your personality is too intimidating for such sugar coated words", I scoff.
"Thought you'll never notice", he laughs, "It was already getting on my nerves to look for pick-up lines everyday and those sappy romance craps that Leon made me watch...", he let out a sigh.
I couldn't help but laugh at this. "You did that?", I let out a sniffle, "Just imagine what would happen if I let out this piece of information to the media?"
"Apart from making it to the headlines in every newspapers, I don't think much will happen"
"Yes you're right. Though I think, 'Intimidating Ambrosian Prince turns into a Love sick puppy' will surely create some chaos", I laughed.
"You won't dare", he hissed.
"Try me", I challenged him.
"Ah I will, darling", he paused for a moment, "Two days, Mrs. Ambrosia... and then you'll be mine, officially", he promised.
"Ciao Mister Ambrosia"
"See you soon, darling", saying he hung up.
No sooner did I keep my phone aside, then I heard the door of my room open and saw my best-friends stroll in. The moment they saw my face, their expressions changed from curiosity to playful one. With a smirk prominent on both of their faces, they walked over and stood in front of me, with their hands folded in front of them.
Confused by their strange behaviour, I arched my right eyebrow and asked them, "What?"
"Exactly... what?", Nans counter-questioned me.
"Huh?", I asked in clear confusion.
"What's up with that smile on your face? Does it have to do something with a certain Ambrosian Prince?", Harry teased me.
"What?! No no... absolutely not", I shaked my head furiously.
"Liar Liar... Pants on... Fire Fire", they began singing in unison.
"Oh shut up! Yes, he is... so what?", I tried to intimidate them but failed very badly, "Holy Jesus! I feel like a fourteen year old, who's gushing over her crush", I paused for a moment and then continued, "Lord help me!", I exclaimed dramatically.
"Help you with what child?", Harry mimicked God-like voice and stood up on my bed, "A tutorial on how to make babies?", saying this, she snickered into a series of laughter and high-fived an equally laughing Nans.
"Stop it. Will you?", I asked no one in particular. I waited for them to sober up and then asked, "Is it time?", my voice cracking at the end,
On hearing me, Nans gave me a slight nod and came in for a hug. After a few seconds, I felt another pair of hands wrap around me and I looked up to see an almost teary face of Harry. "Can't believe one of us is getting married... like tying down forreal", she let out a scoff.
"And here I thought that I'll be the last to marry...", I started off.
Nans cut me off saying, "Or the one who was set to be that unmarried aunt who would bring gifts and spoil our kids", she laughed off.
"With twenty dogs? Ahh life would've been good", I let out a dreamy sigh.
"That won't be a problem because you do have your own version of Ambrosian chihuahua", Harry added.
"Holy! I never thought about it, this way", we ended up laughing hard at this.
"C'mon, everyone is waiting for you", Nans said softly.
"This is it?", I asked.
"This is it", they both whispered softly.
Getting up from my bed, I glanced around my room for the last time, looking at all the memories and hardships that I'll be leaving behind. I don't get this idea of romanticizing weddings, I mean yeah I'll be wedded to someone, carry on their name and their culture; but how am I or anyone in particular expected to change everything around us so drastically, when we will be that same person we were before. I know I'm not making sense right now, but I hope you get me.
Anyways, we walked out of my room towards the foyer where I saw my parents waiting for us, with a small smile prominent on their lips. On seeing my arrival, they walked towards me and engulfed me in a bear hug.
"I'm so happy for you honey", mother said with happy tears brimming in her eyes.
"My little one has grown up", Father said.
"Ah stop it you two", I said while holding them tightly.
After a few moments, we pulled away from each other and walked out of the house, into the driveway where cars were lined up to take us to the airport, where the jet is ready to take us to Greece. It took us half an hour at the most to reach the airport, from where we walked straight into the security check. After completing all the necessary measures, we made our way towards our jet.
Getting settled into our respective seats after what feels like hours, I opened a bottle of champagne to raise a toast for new beginnings.
"To the new beginnings...", I said while raising my glass.
"To you...", Nans and Harry said in unison.
We fell in a comfortable silence when Nans looked up at me and asked, "Where's Enaya?"
"Ah yes, I was wondering the same", Harry intertwined, "Isn't she one of your bridesmaids?"
"Yes she is...", I paused, "... she went to visit her father at the hospital. Said she'll catch the next flight and join us before the wedding".
"I still don't understand your obsession with that chick", Harry said.
"I don't like her to be honest...", Nans huffed, "...that one gives me an odd feeling always"
"Never really thought about it... but she seems harmless", I paused for a moment and recalled one of many times Ela was there with me during my dark times, "She's always around... and I always, never mind".
This wasn't really the first time Nans or Harry have said something like this to me. If I actually look into it, Ela was definitely an odd character. Though she was the one who introduced me to Ryan, and was actually around me for so long that even after whatever happened back then, she never left my side. There wasn't a sense of doubt in me, for her, but Nans has always been skeptical about her. She always told me that Ela isn't what she seemed to be and asked me to be careful around her.
There was a time when both of them lost their temper, when I announced that I will be appointing Ela as my personal assistant. A hell was broken that day. But everything was back to normal when Nans asked me to keep a keen eye on her.
∼a few hours later∼
A sceneric beauty of twilight was the first thing we saw the moment we landed in Greece. A soft glow of pinks and oranges were scattered in the sky that crowned the country. We walked down from the jet, when we saw Leon waiting for us beside a series of Rolls Royce.
The moment he saw me, his expressions turned into a joyful one and he ran towards me, engulfing me in a bear hug.
"Sister in law!", he exclaimed in joy.
"Leon... I can't... breathe..."
"Oops sorry", he said sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head. "I want you to meet someone", he said enthusiastically.
"Who?", I asked him in confusion.
He turned around and looked towards one of the cars, when I saw a pretty girl emerging out of it. She looked to be around Leon's age or maybe two years younger than him. She had this radiant smile on her face that could easily uplift anyone's mood. Her hairs were styled in a pixie cut, with her face that happened to glow even without make-up. She had this welcoming aura and I felt myself warming towards her.
"Meet my fiance...", Leon said while giving her a side hug, "...Sue", he said while kissing her forehead.
"Hello Sue", I said while engulfing her in a hug.
"It's nice meeting you... sister...", she paused, "I hope you don't mind me calling that"
"Why of course not", I laughed off and gave her a smile.
"C'mon, let's get going", Leon said, "Gorilla will chew me off if we reach late", he said with a nervous laugh.
I let out a laugh but deep down I knew I was nervous to face him. Though a part of me wishes that everything works out smoothly.
But little did I know, a new thunderstorm was already waiting for my arrival.
