Helena had one mission that day. To put new protection bags into the walls and seal them back up. Simple enough, she thought. Until she realized her dad had nothing in the house that could be used to close the holes back up.
"Dad, where in town should I go to find building supplies," she asked as she held the phone to her ear with her shoulder.
"Building supplies? What do you need those for?"
"I have to close the walls back up. When the protection bags were removed, someone busted a hole in the wall to get to them. So I've got the bags remade I just need to close the holes."
Her dad sighed through the phone. "How about you call Billy Black and get him to send his son to the house? Lord knows his kid could help you."
"Yeah, okay I can do that. I had no clue what I was doing anyway, much less what to buy. Is his number on the fridge?"
After her dad confirmed where to find the number, Helena dialed up Billy Black. "Hello?"
"Hey, this is Billy Black? Its Helena, Charlie's oldest daughter. I'm trying to fix some holes in the walls around the house but I've got no clue what to do. Dad said your son could help?"
"Helena! It's been forever since I've heard from you. Yeah, I can send Jake up there. He skipped school today but doesn't know I'm aware. This will be a good punishment."
"Okay thanks, Billy. Tell him I'll pay for the supplies, he just needs to tell me what to buy."
"Okay I'll be sure to. Bye, Helena."
"Bye, Billy. Good to talk to you."
It took Billy's son 20 minutes to get to the Swan residence, which was enough time for Helena to feed Squirrel and make herself some food. A knock on the door interrupted her dish washing.
Opening the door, Helena was not expecting to see a 6 ft tall, grown looking boy with long hair standing on her porch.
"Oh, hi. You must be Billy's son, Jake? I'm Helena," she introduced herself as she offered a handshake.
"Yeah, that's me. Didn't you used to play with my sisters? The twins, remember?"
Helena scrunched her face up for a moment before she realized who he was talking about. "Oh, yeah, I did. We used to chase you around. Wow it's been a minute. Why don't you come in while I finish the dishes, then, we can head to wherever we need to go to get some shit to fix the walls."
Jake followed Helena into the kitchen and sat at the table. "I think I've got everything we need, unless you're planning on repainting the walls too match."
"No, I'm not that invested. I just want to keep mice and things out. Bella is terrified even if she won't admit it."
He laughed at her excuse. "Okay, I'll just run out and get it so we can get started."
While he was outside, Helena ran to her room and grabbed her bags. They were pretty simple, just A black bag filled with a hematite stone, a quartz crystal, an onyx, a tiger's eye, a root of angelica and a broken chain. One for each corner of the house that pointed towards a cardinal direction. If Jake asked about them, she'd say they were mouse repellent or something.
"Okay," Jake called, entering the house again, "I've got everything."

After Jake had helped her patch up the walls, Helena found a new mission, creating a warding sigil to keep people out of the house unless specifically invited in. Helena had never liked creating sigils but when she did use them, they were always strong. Which made her grandma have her draw them more, which made Helena hate them more. It was a cycle that never ended. Yet, here Helena sat trying to come up with something. That was what she was doing when Bella came home from school and tried to dart into her room.
"Hey," she called from the living room, "come back here!"
Bella stormed back down the stairs. "Oh hey, Lena. What's up?" she asked as if she hadn't tried to pass by without her seeing.
"I think we should cook tonight. I'm feeling tacos. How about you? We can run to the store before Dad gets home."
Bella gave a noncommittal shrug. "I don't really care. Its whatever you guys feel like."
Helena pursed her lips. "How about you make dinner and I'll make dessert? I could do brownies? Do you still like cheesecake brownies?"
It was that sentence that made Bella look the happiest Helena had seen her in 2 days. "Okay deal. If you make me those, I'll cook you tacos."
"Give me a minute to pick up here and we can go," Helena said, holding back her smile.
Bella looked down into her sister's lap. "What even is that? It looks like gibberish."
" Just a little project Grandma sent with me. It's an art project, but I can't decide which one I like. I can finish later." She gathered up all her stuff and set it upstairs on her bed before grabbing her keys.
Seeing the keys in her hand, Bella grew still for a moment. "Can we take my truck? I just... I really want to drive."
Helena nodded and followed her sister to the old, red, Chevy. She didn't comment on the hole where it appeared the stereo had been scratched out and instead started small talk with her sister about her day.
"I had Billy's son come out and help me patch some holes up today. He seems nice."
"Yeah he's okay. I've only really talked to him a couple times. Billy come over to hang out with Dad sometimes."
Helena hummed in response. She already had gears turning in her head. "We should invite them over for dinner soon. I can make brownies again." Of there was anyone who could cheer her sister up, it had to be that kid with the infectious smile.
