The world runs on chaos. Someone, somewhere said that once. Who knows what they meant at that time, in that context but for Helena Swan it was the truth.
And right now, Helena Swan was stuck with a dilemma. Not a life or death dilemma. Just a 'should she tell her grandmother that she had accidentally summoned another rabbit or should she just keep it' dilemma. Helena Swan had taken after her grandmother and namesake in more ways than one.
Charlie and Renee had known from an early age that their oldest daughter was not normal. From animals sitting outside her window as she slept, the plants that would grow and bloom around her as she played outdoors, and the way that she had not cried when born but hadn't stopped making noise since. Helena Swan had been born quiet and she made sure noone ever thought she was quiet again.
Since her parents were young when she was born, her grandmother had offered to raise the girl after her abnormal behaviors had come to light. Who better to raise a witch than another witch?
Helena would have been another Helen Swan had her mother not been determined to spite her father. Then the woman had named her next daughter after her own mother. Needless to say, Helena's parents didn't stay married long.
Helena grew up knowing her parents loved her but she was happy all the same to stay with her grandma. She would visit her dad during the summer whenever her younger sister, Bella would see him. The last few years, Bella had decided not to travel to Forks, putting an end to that arrangement. Helena and Helen did go visit for Christmas and his birthday still and he would go to their little house in Salem, Oregon for Thanksgiving.
"Hel, could you come in here a moment," her grandma called from the kitchen. Helena wandered in, forgetting about the bunny situation altogether.
Helena wondered in to find her grandma stirring something that she hoped would be dinner.
"Hey, Grandma, what's up?"
Helen rolled her eyes at her grand daughter's antics. "Your mother called, that blasted woman. She wanted to talk to you. She mentioned Isabella."
Helena automatically corrected her grandma. "Be nice to Mom and its Bella. She doesn't like to be called Isabella. Did she tell you what she wanted?"
Helen sighed and put her spoon down. She turned to her granddaughter. "Look, she wants you to move in with your father and Is- I mean Bella. Bella's boyfriend ditched and she's not taking it well. Your dad is really worried."
"Oh, he was her first boyfriend. They want me to help cheer her up? Do you think it's a good idea though? Bella hasn't been the nicest to me since the raven accident."
Helena laughed when her grandmother turned a side eye to her when she mentioned the fateful day she accidentally summoned a raven. A raven that would not leave her side the whole summer visit to her dad. It was the first time Bella suspected her older sister wasn't quite average.
Charlie had wanted to tell Bella about her older sister's heritage but Renee had argued against it, saying she wanted to keep her out of danger, as if Helena would hurt her little sister, so Helena was not allowed to share that part of herself with her sister. That was another reason Helen disliked her daughter-in-law.
"You're fully in control now. If you feel yourself spiraling, you'll be surrounded by forrest, just take a walk. This is your decision, darling. Even if you go, I'll come visit for your and Charlie's birthdays and Christmas."
"I know but I'll miss you. Will Dad let me bring Squirrel? You know he's hated that old cat since the day he walked in the house."
"Your father will let you keep Squirrel if it means you'll come live with him. If you really want to, I would never stop you. It sounds like Bella needs some help right now. I love you but your father needs you girls too."
Helena looked down at her lap and fiddled with her hands. She would miss her grandma but she missed her dad as well. She supposed she missed Bella a bit as well but the two were not as close as they were when they were younger. All Helena knew about Bella since she had moved to Forks the year before was that she had gotten a boyfriend, who was evidently now her ex-boyfriend. Helena was proud of her sister for coming out of her shell now she had to make sure she stayed out of it.
She finally looked back up to her grandma. "I think its time Bella and I got to know each other again. I'll call Mom and tell her I'm going to go. Would you help me pack? I want to drive up."
Helen smiled at her granddaughter. "Yes, I'll help you pack. Let me get a hold of your father and tell him the good news."
Well, Forks. I'm coming to help my baby sister.
