Trivia

These are just fun facts, behind-the-scene, and background stories about everything in the Saga!

________________________________

-This story has been almost exactly five years in the making. I started this specific rendition of the stories around May 2012 and I finally finished it in May 2017. But, I say "rendition" because I've rebooted the Saga more than once. And before I decided I wanted to make it a series, I was already writing Sonic stories at different points of my childhood, starting with "The Microwave Cannon" in 3rd grade (2007)! It was in the late of 6th grade (2011) where I decided to combine my separate stories into what is now "Sonic & Friends Saga." Then eighth grade, I rebooted the whole series into what you have read here! So technically, you can also say this was actually ten years in the making!

-"Love Sick's" plot was a bit different originally. It was still a debacle between Sally and Amy over Sonic, but the contest was actually held by Sonic! I depicted his character in that story as a bit more ignorant person, deeming his lover worthy depending on who won the contest! And there was no Espio until my second reboot, so Amy went home with no hope! But, Sally and Amy did end on an apologetic note.

-"Chaos" is a totally different concept from the story that used to take its place! Before I wrote the original "Resurrection," I wanted a story between that and "Love Sick" that introduced a stronger feeling of action within the series. It was known as, "The Return Of The Babylon Rogues." The Babylon Rogues are characters from the Sonic Riders video game series. When I wrote this story, they only had made the first game, and in my opinion, they were long overdue for a sequel! So I made a "what-if" story on if they were to return, but not for a racing game, for something serious. The main plot was they returned to steal something valuable from Sonic's home and to give it to Dr. Eggman. Shadow was even hired by the Rogues to assist them in ridding of Sonic! The irony of all this though, a few months after I wrote this, they released the sequel to "Sonic Riders." 😂

However, when I wanted to reboot this story later on, I did more research and realized there were too many inaccuracies within the story, it wasn't doable! So, I scrapped the title and the main antagonist(s). Instead, I came up with what is now "Chaos," which still had a "search-and-find" appeal to it, except with the Chaos Emeralds rather than a magical ring (long story, let's forget that)- but it was done correctly, it wound up being longer and much more action-packed, AND it flowed better into "Resurrection" than its predecessor did!

-Speaking of "Resurrection," in Chapter 17 of it, I told you that that whole installment wound up entirely different than the original! Oh my goodness, looking back at it now, I no longer regret trashing the original copy!

"Resurrection" was my greatest work according to those who did read it. But all of them were not as knowledgeable of certain things, just like I wasn't! So I didn't have anyone to correct all the horrible details and facts going into the story! At the time, I was into many fandoms (as I am now). I was also into the video game, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," and for those who do not know what that is, it's basically a game where you can pick from a bunch of iconic video game characters and fight together with them!

As you can see, Sonic was a playable character (and boy, did the gaming community go nuts).

I was also inspired by another game known as Kingdom Hearts, which was basically another hit crossover game, but on a much smaller scale. This game only went as far as the Final Fantasy games and the most popular of Disney characters!

So I thought it'd be a great idea to merge all of my favorite characters into one big game to meet each other! Now, I did throw in some "Smash Bros." characters since I thought they had that game as "history" with Sonic!....

I was dead wrong! Turns out, none of the "Smash Bros." games are canon to the main stories of any of those characters! Which then made the encounters in my stories nonsensical!

As for Kingdom Hearts, I introduced those characters in a different manner. I wrote it as if they and Sonic's side met for the first time ever, and were forced to join forces because their bad guys joined forces.

Who were the antagonists of this story you ask? Again, it was bad, you were warned! 😂

I had Bowser from Super Mario, Cell from the Dragon Ball Z series (and yes, I included some DBZ characters in the original story- which I now say was the biggest flop), Ganondorf from The Legend Of Zelda, Nazo The Hedgehog, Mephiles The Dark, and from Kingdom Hearts: Ansem, Seeker Of Darkness.

I told you, it was a mess! When I went to rewrite "Resurrection" back in....sometime in 2016, I was already aware of the fact that some of those characters just did not belong! For starters, the Dragon Ball Z characters. I've come to learn that there's this important thing to consider when creating a crossover, and it's called "balancing."

Balancing, is making sure each side of a crossover are equal. A crossover doesn't make a good crossover if there isn't a valid reason for them to cross over! And the only reason for them to cross over is if they would match in something! After doing some heavy research, there was no way to balance the Dragon Ball Z characters within my story! They surpass everyone in the original "Resurrection" story! My problem was back then, I made all the other characters their equal, unaware of the truth!

Which means, a Sonic-based story would have been pointless, because these DBZ characters' powers are so much more superior, they would've dealt with the problem MUCH faster, and would've chopped off a good portion of the plot's length!

In short, this "Resurrection" lasted 19 chapters. If I had brought back DBZ, it most likely had the potential of reaching 10 chapters- at most. And it would've been a bit boring.

All the other villains and heroes from elsewhere were taken out solely because it wasn't canon and would've been cliché, as those characters have been used in other Sonic fan-fictions before.

But the reason I kept Kingdom Hearts was because not only there was some balance, but I did want to introduce the idea of a "crossover;" so if you plan to follow me throughout "The Final War," you'll know why!

But I truly loved the Ansem character, it really reminded me of Mephiles The Dark. I wanted to keep him, and his Heartless, they would've made a good amount of trouble for the heroes. But I did my research this time, I wanted to see who was more powerful. It turns out it was unbalanced again. Ansem is actually a bit more powerful than Mephiles...so instead of shooting it down, I made Mephiles the main antagonist, but a pawn to a stronger force- Ansem, who would then play a larger role later.

Now I also mentioned someone up there that probably made you do a weird face: Nazo The Hedgehog. If there are any true Sonic fans reading this out there, I'm sorry, but this happened to me.

Nazo The Hedgehog was actually the main villain in the original "Resurrection." However, he is a myth in the Sonic fandom. Here's some background.

When "Sonic X" was a hot TV show, they wanted something different for one of their next seasons. A picture was leaked on the Internet of a hedgehog, with a caption of "Nazo," which is Japanese for "mystery."

No further detail was given about this "character," and unfortunately, this character's concept was rejected entirely by Sega.

So this left people everywhere throwing theories around about this "Nazo The Hedgehog." Until one YouTuber created a flash animation creating an origins story for this character! Turns out, he was basically the physical form of the dark side of the Chaos and Master Emeralds. The video is called "Nazo Unleashed," which you can still find on YouTube today!

The video went viral and it was so good, even the voice actor for Sonic at the time praised the video for its "accuracy."

Because of this little comment, this became the "official" origins story for Nazo.

I was fascinated with the character as a child, and so I thought it'd be cool if I "resurrect" him, alongside Mephiles and a bunch of other, unfitting characters! 😃😐

But after years of things like this, sequels, and reboots, and reimagines, Sega called it quits and spilled the truth on who Nazo was supposed to be. For starters, he wasn't even a separate character. In fact, that was supposed to be Sonic! The idea was to give him a new transformation, and they were debating on whether they should have made it an evil one! But, they rejected it!

In the original "Resurrection," I depicted him as the most powerful of all the villains, and he actually wound up killing the rest in the end (even Ansem). Now, I was going off that YouTube origins story at the time, so in some way, I depicted him correctly, because he was a pretty bad dude, if not, overpowered!

After doing all this research, I concluded on making Mephiles and Ansem the main antagonists, with more showtime for Mephiles!

That was a big piece of trivia! Sorry! 😂

-There's a lost character in "Resurrection!" His name is Shade The Hedgehog!....Who also doesn't exist!

(What?)

In which, she's actually Shade The Echidna!

(Whaaaat?)

Get a load of this! So, remember how Silver died in Chapter 1? Well, that was based off the original "Resurrection" too, except it wasn't just Silver. It was also this "Shade The Hedgehog."

Also, do you remember the gold-colored Shadow Androids from "Chaos?"

Yeah, that?

OK good, you'll need to! So, at this point, some of my knowledge writing this story was based off Google Images! Which is better than Wikipedia, right? No, shut up.

I found this fan-drawn picture of that same Shadow Android, but it was titled "Shade The Hedgehog."

I did a separate search on that name, and a few pictures depicted a hedgehog like this, being Shadow's son.

So, I thought, "This must be true!"

I added this "Shade" to my story, and made it the son of Shadow and Rouge (because just about every Sonic fan at that age ships them so hard)!

But, I didn't know too much about him and didn't know how to use him in the story, so I killed him. It made an interesting plot twist though! Then he came back and killed Nazo after Silver broke his spine! (What the? 😂)

I even used a cliché line for Silver when he did that, "There can only be one white hedgehog in this planet, and it's me!"

I'm so done with Little Me!

Later in the future, I realized that was all wrong and fake, and to never trust imagines! But there was actually a "Shade" character in the Sonic canon. It was actually a female! So I went back and made it Shadow and Rouge's daughter (what was wrong with me?). Again, no research for this! I only found a picture of the real "Shade," but assumed it was a hedgehog! Just went with it, and scratched off every female pronoun! Lol.

Moving on into the future, when I sat down to correct the wrongs before writing the new version of "Resurrection," I took the time to research Shade. Shade is an echidna from a rival clan of Knuckles' echidna clan, and is actually pretty awesome! Think Espio and Shadow, but put into a girl! Here she is below:

I actually thought long and hard about putting her back in "Resurrection," but the right way, just because of how cool she really was. She probably would've made a great pair with Sally and/or Blaze.

-"Resurrection" had a sequel! As if the original wasn't terrible enough! It was called, "Bloody Dusk." I wrote it in dedication to my girlfriend at the time. You see, Silver was (is) my favorite character, and I (along with tons of other people) shipped him with Blaze. And I always told my girlfriend that she was like Blaze and I was like Silver. And we were actually like them, it was kind of weird but cool!

Also, Twilight was hot around this time, and she loved that stuff. So for "Bloody Dusk," I made it a vampire/werewolf story. At the end of "Resurrection," I made Silver propose to Blaze, and made a huge cliffhanger of her not answering yet.

I then wrote "Bloody Dusk," in which started with Blaze's acceptance of Silver. To ruin their happiness, Dr. Eggman created a toxin that would turn Silver and Blaze against each other, in which they both turned into vampires. For Silver however, he wound up becoming a vampire/werehog hybrid!

How "werehog?"

There was a game called "Sonic Unleashed," that introduced a new (but temporary) form of Sonic- a werehog!

And in the day, he was Sonic The Hedgehog. At night, Werehog. Not because of the cliché moon though, you see, Dr. Eggman was successful in destroying Earth in this game. However, he accidentally released a dark ancient spirit within the planet, known as Dark Gaia. The energies of Dark Gaia somehow had an effect on Sonic, cursing him to transform like this when it's nightime.

It was quite a fun game to be honest. I still have it!

So anyway, I assumed all hedgehogs could do this, and since it was nighttime when Dr. Eggman intoxicated Silver, I made Silver a werehog too, but the toxin for him made him a hybrid, keeping his werehog form permanent.

I later found out it was only Sonic who could do this, while also remembering that Sonic lost the ability to go werehog at the end of that video game.

Basically, I messed up the sequel as bad as I did the first part! 😂
However, at the end, I wrote a note to my girlfriend that I dedicated that story to her and that hopefully one day, I'd marry her too.

...Whoops. 😅😂

-Of all the installments, "Shadow Of A Shadow" is actually the closest original arch.

-If you read the "Reader's Manual" at the start of this book, you'll remember there was GIF there, when I was explaining how Sonic's combat was generally more fast-paced than that YouTube video I provided prior. I told you I would have showed you tjat video, but there was a small spoiler in it.

But assuming you're here and you've finished the book, you can now watch that full scene, in high-definition! Yay!...OK, gosh.

And it's actually from the game "Sonic Unleashed," so I hope you enjoy (and yes, Super Sonic was the spoiler)!:

You don't even have to be a fan to divulge in those visuals. 😏😎

-Sonic's brother and sister, Manic and Sonia, were in the original "Resurrection" as well. Unfortunately, their characters aren't considered canon, which is really upsetting. Which is fine, because I didn't actually have use for them in this reimagining. Here they are:

-In "Love Sick," Sonic's mother was mentioned. Again, she isn't considered canon either, but her name is Queen Aleena. Which makes Sonic a prince of his home world.

-Sally Acorn is the only character I allowed in this story that wasn't canon. She only exists within the comic books, which again- isn't considered canon. However, there is a heated debate within the fandom on whether Sally or Amy should be Sonic's love. Which is why I wrote "Love Sick," to not only introduce Sally, but to claim my reasonable stance! In addition, Espio and Amy aren't actually a thing, if anything, I'm one of the very rare people who ship them. But if you see them when they're together, things do get awkward, so suggestions will always be up!

And besides, Amy had to make herself look older with a potion to date Sonic in the comics, whereas Sally is all natural!
~#Sonally #NotSonamy #Amio

-Sally's character was hard to manage overall. She wasn't canon, so I had to make her likable. She is most known for her "revealing" clothing attires (if you could call it that); I'll leave it up to the audience to search that. Just type in "Sally Acorn" on the Internet, you'll see what I mean. But it was hard picking pictures for her because of that! And, I've never seen her in combat, so I had to go off readings and comic book screenshots! I hope I did well with her, because gosh, I felt like the damsel in distress trying to portray her. 😂

-It's interesting to note, all the characters are considered "Mobian," from planet Mobius. However, Shadow was created by a Black Alien and an Earthling, and was sent directly to Earth. Never has Shadow stepped a foot on Mobius (in canon), but he somehow looks like the others. The only characteristic he has of his true heritage is his color scheme. I mean, for crying out loud, his alien father doesn't even look like him:

-In "Epilogue," when Sonic and Nathan meet again, Sonic makes a reference (not a fourth-wall break) to Nathan's "Legend ("Legend Of The Black Phoenix")," whereas Nathan references a "Saga." This book's name was formerly "Sonic & Friends Saga," but I didn't change it because it's still a good scene with a good callout that refers to the crossing over the two books (*cough, cough*, "The Final War" 😏).

*That's all the trivia folks! If you have any lingering questions, I'll be happy to answer them for you here!
