Resurrection-Chapter 1
"Dr. Eggman, are you sure this is safe to do? Given previous experience-"
"Don't you dare finish that statement! I know what I'm doing, and this time I have an offering to give..."
Dr. Eggman was continuing his previous project that Sonic and friends tried to foil- the one where he tried to summon the "unknown source of power." Dr. Eggman had already been aware of the dimensional disturbances before Blaze The Cat arrived last time. Once the disturbances came to his attention first, he immediately tried to attract it into the planet. Orbot and Cubot were trying to sway Dr. Eggman away from this plot, and not only because of what he was doing, but because of the offering he was willing to give in case it was more than just an entity harnessing such power.
The doctor clicked a few buttons on his supercomputer and as last time, two camera feeds opened on his screen: one of the sky above the base and the other of the antenna on his base. He clicked another button, the base's antenna starting to charge. Unexpectedly, the antenna exploded four seconds into its preparation.
"What?! No! Computer, run a diagnosis!" Eggman scoffed.
"Error: System unable to perform any actions. Base operations offline."
Eggman pounded his fists onto the desk and rapidly tried to fix the problem manually.
"You can stop trying to summon me, I come to worlds I see fit. This time, I have purpose."
Eggman spun around upon hearing the deep, cold, and eerie voice behind him. There, stood a dark tan man, a bit taller than the Doctor. His eyes were blazing orange that stood out from his white long hair that had three spiked parts on the back of his head, almost like a trident. Towards the end of the hair that fell loose, his hair faded into a misty blue.
He wore a white strapped and buttoned long-vest, under a long coat that was black around the torso and grey towards the bottom, and a gold accent on the front trimming. He had blue shoulder pads, white glove, each with a black wrist line and black buttons along the forearm-high cuffs, and black knee-high boots that had a silver trim along the shaft rim.
Aside from his unique clothing, the biggest oddity about him was the emblem above his bare chest. It resembled a heart, but at its bottom, it spread open into three points, and in the middle of the heart were two intersecting lines that made an X and looked to be adorned with thorns.
"Energy detected. Requesting initiation of experiment." the computer beeped in.
"Computer, cancel the experiment-" Eggman requested, not taking his eyes off the man before him, "Who are you?"
"My name is Ansem, Seeker Of Darkness. I sense that you have an offering for me." said the man.
Dr. Eggman gave his signature grin, "A man of business are you? Well then, let's get to business then, shall we? Orbot, Cubot, one of you! Bring me the scepter!"
The two spun around from their computer stations upon the order, and Orbot was the first to get up and retrieve it.
Cubot looked confused and scratched his head, "Scepter? You mean the cool looking dagger thing?"
"You idiot! It's a scepter, not a dagger! Could you not act like such an imbecile around our guests?"
Orbot was gliding back with an object that indeed looked like a dagger, but it wasn't. It glowed an ominous violet aura around it, like it was containing something. Eggman took the object from Orbot and presented it to Ansem like it was his prized possession.
"Seeker Of Darkness, meet the Scepter Of Darkness! Within it-"
Dr. Eggman was cut off when Ansem raised a hand and the scepter was pulled out of Eggman's grasp and levitated to Ansem. He caught it and observed it himself, mesmerized by its appearance. He then broke a grin and widened his eyes at it.
"It holds a magnificent power...What would you like for this, Doctor?"
"I'd imagine with such power you possess, you know what it's like to conquer a world, right?"
Ansem chuckled, "Yes, I understand."
"Well you see, I'm trying to take over this world, but there's always someone or something that always stops me!"
"Who or what is this someone or something?"
"His name is Sonic The Hedgehog, a filthy blue rodent!"
"Do you have an image of this, 'Sonic'?"
Cubot came over and projected a hologram of Sonic's body in front of him.
"If you can try to get rid of that pest, the scepter is yours!" Eggman continued.
Ansem remained in thought for a moment and continued to stare at the scepter.
Eggman unshowing of it, grew impatient, "So, what do you say?"
Ansem switched his gaze to Dr. Eggman. "There's a lot of potential in this scepter, I can feel it. I felt its...presence as soon as I arrived in this room. How about this, what if I use this scepter to get rid of your Sonic, and if I succeed, I get to keep it?"
"And if you fail?" Eggman serious now.
Ansem returned with a burst of laughter. "Let's not worry about that, shall we? Do we have a deal, Doctor?"
Now it was the Doctor who was thinking. He didn't know how much he could trust Ansem, but he really wanted Sonic gone.
"We have a deal!" he finally answered, offering his hand.
Ansem walked over to the Doctor and shook his hand. Ansem looked much taller up close, as Eggman was looking up to him. A body-sized black hole appeared behind Ansem. He let go of the Doctor's hand and walked backwards into it, being absorbed and disappearing, as the hole did too once he was gone.
Meanwhile...
"Wait, since when do you go to parties?"
Sonic, Shadow, and Silver were all walking to a party at Amy's house. It was nighttime and there were little to no cars on the streets. It was almost quiet, as the only thing you could hear were the crickets and cicadas- cricketing and clicking throughout the night.
"Or any special event for that matter?" Silver filled in after Sonic.
"I go where I want, whenever I want! I don't need to tell you about my life- if I don't care about yours, why would I tell you of mine? Besides, I did go to that one birthday party of yours." Shadow snapped.
"Oh really, which one?" Sonic interrogated.
"The one after we dealt with that Time Eater, remember?"
"Right, right, everyone was there!"
"True, but given the circumstances, you were kinda forced to be there." Silver tuned in.
"Time flies, doesn't it?" said a voice from ahead.
The three stop their chattering to see who it was. They didn't recognize the man, but he definitely looked like trouble.
"They say it all comes back to you, especially towards death!" the man continued, now twirling some kind of object in his hand.
The trio gasped in awe and froze at the sight of it. They still didn't know the man, but they did recognize the object in his hand all too much: It was the Scepter Of Darkness.
"Who are you and where did you get that?!" the three bantered simultaneously, as they all were in equal worry of the scepter.
"My name is Ansem, and may it be the last name you hear before your demise!" the man replied.
He dropped the scepter to the floor and his began to glow a black aura. Like he was controlling it, the scepter responded with it glowing violet, then a black trail of smoke that moved like a serpent flew up in the air from its containment. It slithered around in the air, before falling straight back to ground level. Shadow seemed to be too familiar with this, so he tried to escape, but wasn't fast enough when the smoke dove right in front of him. Shadow stood in shock as the smoke began to cloud up before him and literally absorb his visible shadow, given by the streetlight above him. Then, rising from the fog was an all too familiar foe: Mephiles The Dark.
Silver and Sonic were just as baffled as Shadow was, for all three of them were connected to Mephiles in their own way. Shadow was Mephiles' first and only physical form; in the time since their first encounter (from when the scepter first wiped Shadow's memory), Shadow encountered Mephiles again, taking the form once more. Mephiles, along with another entity, The Flames Of Disaster, Iblis, went ahead with their plans to bring chaos to the world.
For Sonic, Mephiles was the first and only villain to have ever successfully kill Sonic, let alone on his first try; in comparison to Dr. Eggman's countless attempts. Luckily for Sonic, with the power of the Chaos Emeralds, he was revived. It was also in these events in which Sonic and Shadow first met Silver.
Silver's future was destroyed and apocalyptic, in which Iblis has taken over the planet. Mephiles traveled to Silver's time to convince Silver that the cause of his future was Sonic The Hedgehog, even though Mephiles was slightly correct. In an attempt to prevent the events, Sonic could not stop Dr. Eggman on time from releasing Iblis, but Mephiles purposely left out that fact when talking with Silver. So Silver traveled back in the past to kill Sonic, but after several encounters and revelations, Sonic, Shadow, and Silver joined forces to erase the mistakes and catalysts of their timeline. Mephiles managed to summon Iblis earlier on, for them to merge and become the Sun God, Solaris. In the end, time was restored again where Mephiles and Iblis never existed and Silver's future was the way it should have been, but even so, Silver visits every so often. Only those who helped fix the events remember what happened. Sonic, Silver, and Shadow were now remembering again.
"Sonic, Shadow, and Silver! Hello again!" Mephiles cackled through his mouthless muzzle.
Shadow jumped forward to punch Mephiles, but upon contact, Mephiles vanished in a puff of smoke. Sonic and Shadow worriedly searched around them and upon a gasp from Silver's direction, they both checked their heads to Silver. He was being held by his throat in the air by Mephiles. In the other hand, Mephiles had a ball of dark blue energy in his hand. Before Silver could react, Mephiles drove the sphere onto Silver's chest, blasting him up in the air with an impact hard enough to thunder throughout the night.
The flash of light from the blast began to dissipate, Sonic and Shadow, even Ansem uncovering their eyes. Mephiles was no longer holding Silver. His body was nowhere to be found. He ignored this and confidently turned his back from Shadow and Sonic, walking to Ansem.
"Silver!" Sonic cried. "What did you do?!"
In response, a loud thud was heard behind him like a body just fell from the air. He turned around to find Silver lying there, unmoving. Sonic kneeled down to check on Silver, shouting his name to hopefully wake him. Shadow sped over to the scene as he went to check Silver's pulse. He waited for a heartbeat to pass a vein. A deeper frown fell on him, as he shut his eyes and shook his head...Silver was dead.
Sonic was frozen, he couldn't process what just happened. He didn't realize Shadow was screaming in his ear to snap out of it. Finally, Shadow whacked him on the arm. Sonic snapped out of this state, and without another thought, he zipped over to Mephiles, almost two feet away from him in a matter of a second- but he was stopped in mid-air as Ansem caught him in a telekinetic paralysis.
Shadow brought out his fake Chaos Emerald, sped back to Sonic, and held out his arm, "Chaos Control!" and disappeared in a flash of light.
"Who are you?" Mephiles asked, immediately addressing the elephant in the room.
"I am Ansem, the Seeker Of Darkness. I have summoned you, now you answer to me." Ansem declared.
"You must be foolish if you think of me as some genie! I answer to no one!"
Mephiles shot a lance of energy from his hand to Ansem and like an actual lance would, it struck and penetrated Ansem's abdomen. Ansem flinched, but quickly recovered his posture, laughing deviously. Mephiles was dumbfounded by this; the Dark Chaos Lance was how he killed Sonic.
He then released the lance. "Let me rephrase that: what are you?" he asked.
"I embody darkness, I am one with it! Attacking me with dark power is futile! But you-..."
Ansem put out his hand to Mephiles and curled his fingers. Mephiles grunted and his knees buckled, making him painfully kneel to the ground before Ansem.
"Your powers are inferior to mine! Now, do you want to live freely or should I find a way to make other use of you?" Ansem continued.
Mephiles felt Ansem's overwhelming power within him, he knew he couldn't manipulate him as he would anyone else.
"What do you want from me?" he croaked.
Ansem released the hold and Mephiles relaxed, falling forward, his hands and knees keeping him off the concrete.
"Although inferior to me, your power is truly admirable; it'd be a shame if you don't put it to use. Those other two hedgehogs, are they the protectors of this world?"
Once Mephiles recovered, he stood up and answered:
"Indeed. What are your intentions?"
"I want to take over many worlds and many dimensions. With your help, we could conquer every reality in existence! I believe you'd like that, wouldn't you?"
"That is a scenario worth pursuing. What do you need me to do?"
"First, I need you to eliminate of those two hedgehogs. If you need anything to do so, I'd be more than willing to give you the power to do so. And with a heart like yours...actually, you don't have a heart, do you?...I can feel your emptiness...it's perfect. You can easily give order to my army of Heartless."
"Heartless?"
"Beings with no hearts, no soul, just darkness. If you weren't your own entity, I'd imagine you to be the perfect Heartless!"
"Interesting...And, this granted power, could it fill one's potential?"
Ansem observed Mephiles attentively. He looked as if he just realized something, "This isn't your true form, is it?"
"Correct." Mephiles chuckled.
"Come Mephiles, take my hand."
Mephiles unfolded his arms and paced over to Ansem who had offered his hand. Mephiles raised his hand to Ansem's and clutched it like he was giving him a handshake. Ansem closed his eyes in concentration. A black smog began to cyclone around Mephiles, and he began to sardonically laugh as he echoed through the night. As it spun faster and expanded more, it engulfed Mephiles' outstretched arm and Ansem released him to watch on.
After some seconds, the tornado blew outwards, brushing through Ansem's hair, to reveal the true form of Mephiles The Dark. Although still similar in body shape to Shadow, his appearance was now entirely his own. He appeared to made of a dark indigo, stone-like texture, but on certain areas, such as the tips of his quills, his fingers, and legs, were like icicles. And his eyes were his most menacing characteristic: where it was once white, his eyes were a beaming light rose-red- which also appeared to be stone-like, and his pupil was now reptilian, with neon yellow irises.
To test this new form, Ansem tried to put Mephiles into a hold as he did before. Mephiles weakly grunted and strained to hold the pain, but he didn't fall to the ground. He stood and took the pain. Ansem quickly released him and grinned.
"I have a suggestion," Mephiles spoke, "Should we allow Sonic's arch-nemesis to assist us?"
"I forgot about him...I made a deal that I would rid of that blue rodent for him." Ansem remembered.
"It seems you failed."
"We failed. You were supposed to be the reward and I expected that it'd work, but it seems he had help...Fine, I suppose it was my fault, but now I can't have you..."
"Says who? If that's the case, let's dispose of him."
"I like your thinking...but his intellect is quite valuable."
"Hahahahahaha! His intellect compares to nothing of mine! I've outsmarted him once and I could do it more than so again!"
"I truly hope you're not biting off more than you can chew. Come, let's rid of Dr. Eggman then."
A black hole appeared next to the two and they both entered, transporting to Dr. Eggman's base.
