The Avalanche Incident

Yeah... you see I can't say much about this thing but... er... I tried.
And the pic below is a test for a new editing app that I found.

When you're in the Chaos Army, or in any army in general, there are deadly situations in which you had signed up for. Spereus, Lathia, and Indoci were reminded of this when an avalanche occurred during one of the missions they were assigned.

It all started one morning with a last-minute assignment.

"What do you mean we have another mission?!" Indoci yelled, upset at being woken from his slumber.

"It means we have to pack and go now, Death Breath." Lathia said, too tired to make an insult.

"But we just came back from the last one!" He continued to complain.

"Exactly, which is why I am asking you what we are doing taking on a new one." Lathia said pointedly to Spereus who had been silent the entire time.

"I already told you two. Chaos said it had to be us."

"Are we really the only ones that could take it Spereus?! I mean Jakato and his group aren't busy."

"Lathia, they can't take this mission. This mission is for us, Chaos assigned it to us. Now let's go get our powers removed, Chaos said it was mandatory for the mission."

•○•○•○•○•

"The thing I don't get is why we have to remove our powers."

"Why didn't you ask Chaos while we were still there? She was watching us, Lathia."

"She was there? I'm pretty sure that I would have asked if she was there!"

"How did you know she was there?"

"..."

"Indoci just asked a great question. You should answer it Spereus."

"I can't answer," He was getting agitated; if he was the only one to notice Chaos there must have been a reason for it.

"Why not?"

"Because something isn't right," He responded firmly.

His cousins knew better than to test him whenever he used that tone. They usually shut up whenever he used it, if they didn't they knew things would get ugly.

There were ever only a few times he used that voice before. That authoritive tone was used when leading the army to victory, protecting those who he loved, and the betrayal of those he had protected. Each time, if defied, he would become a different person, merciless, cold-hearted. The opposite of the Spereus they knew, at least, that's what they thought.

"Just drop it and let's get that stone. The mission isn't going to be completed on its own," With that he walked into one of the portals connecting the Chaos Base with other planets; some connect other worlds. His cousins followed obediently behind him. He would be like this for the rest of the day, they didn't know why, but his cousins knew they wouldn't enjoy it.

Just as they stepped through the portal Spereus whisper-yelled,"Get down!"

They ducked behind a hill of snow just as a helicopter flew above them. Right now they were wondering how Spereus had known it was coming. Their powers had been extracted, aside from their demigod powers, so it should have been Lathia that sensed it considering her father's domain.

Again, Spereus had proven that there were some things that he kept to himself.

(Time skip to searching for stone...)

The trio trudged through the snow and came to a stop at the foot of a mountain.

"Look for entrances. Lathia look at the top. Indoci to the left, and I'll take the right. We meet back here after."

"But Spereus... you know I don't do well w-with heights." Her voice was nearly inaudible as she looked up at the tall, tall mountain. Lathia knew the consequences, but she would rather go through it than go that high up.

To their surprise, Spereus didn't scold her like he would have. That surprise was short lived; a rumbling sound came from the mountain. They all turned to look as soon as the noise stopped. At first nothing seemed wrong, leaving them to think it was a monster. But they were wrong when, a few seconds later, snow began to rapidly fall down the mountain. Spereus grabbed both of them and started running to the left of the mountain.

"Spereus... aren't we supposed to be running away from the mountain?!" Indoci yelled over the loud rumbling.

"Trust me. Now run faster," Spereus looked up, the snow almost reaching their elevation. "Go!"

He let go and pushed them towards a now visible entrance into the mountain. Spereus thought of the connection between water and snow. He had never done this before, but he would die trying, literally. He put this hands up as if he was pushing something and focused on the snow that was about to bury them all. He struggled to push the snow back up, the weight was almost too much without his extended powers. He felt through the vapor and saw that his cousins had just reached the cave entrance. That was all he needed to know to finally let go of his hold on the snow.

He ran after releasing it, the snow would've trapped him if it weren't for his cousins pulling him in.

"Thank you," Spereus got up and brushed off the remaining snow on his armour. "Now let's get a move on. The sooner we finish the mission the sooner we can get out of this cold place."

The entrance was covered in ice; they had to be careful where to step. Some of the ice could easily crack and make them fall to who knows where (probably to their deaths). Luckily Spereus could sense where the ice was weak and guided them. His powers, though, weren't entirely reliable in his state, considering there is only a thin bond between him and ice.

It got a bit darker as they made their way through the tunnel. The tunnel led them to the core of the mountain, not that they knew that seeing as they were inside. Unfortunately, as it got darker it got colder. They might start to get frostbite, but knew they had to finish the mission first.

Chaos had said to Spereus that the stone they were looking for was very powerful and could not fall into the wrong hands. They were new, however, and wondered why Chaos entrusted them with doing it. As to be expected, Chaos did have a reason, but she didn't bother explaining it to them.

Chaos chuckled, they had passed the first obstacle. Pontus owes her a favor now. He had seen the trio and made a bet that they wouldn't last through it, well he lost.

A test. That was the reason. Everyone in her army went through a test, and just because of their reputation didn't mean they didn't have to take it. Oh who am I kidding, this was only for her entertainment, their reputation was beyond what anyone in the army had ever done. She just wanted to get a favor from Pontus.

The color white was really getting boring to see. Sure there was some visible ice that had a blue-ish tint, but the rest was white. The color got darker as they ventured deeper, but it's still wasn't dark enough for Indoci to shadow-travel.

Just because I forgot what I was going to write let's just say that it ends the same way any other Chaos fic with a trial. They pass falling icicles, the "gold" temptation, and trusting to let go. They reach the stone and the stone has a conscious that they have passed the test required for the army blah blah bleh blah bleh. Bbbbbyyyyyyyeeeee.
