Chapter 7: Settling In
Zach POV
"You get everything?" I asked Jessica.
"Yep, I'm good to go!" Jessica exclaimed.
I chuckled. "Alright then, let's go." I said.
We entered back into the house and we set our stuff down where Katelyn told us we could. I leaned against the wall and yawned. Jessica looked at me rolled her eyes playfully.
"What?" I wondered.
"You're always tired aren't ya?" she asked.
"No I'm not." I said.
"Every time we do something, you always end up yawning or even falling asleep." Jessica said.
"It ain't my fault that I'm sleep deprived." I said.
"Who's is it then?" Jessica asked.
"You don't wanna know." I said.
"Tell me, I wanna know." Jessica said.
"Fine, but I warned ya." I said.
"Oh, come on. It can't be that bad." Jessica said.
"You really wanna know?" I asked.
"Yep." Jessica said.
"Needles, drugs, adrenaline injections, and you don't wanna know the rest." I said.
"Oh." Jessica said.
"Yeah, it was crazy." I said.
"Well, guess you wanna go to sleep now don't ya?" Jessica asked.
"Yep." I said.
Jessica giggled at me and sat down on the floor and looked through her texts. I walked towards the couch and as soon as my head hit the pillow, I fell asleep.
Jessica POV
I woke up to the sound of something hitting the ground. I sat up and turned around to see Zach lying on the floor. He must've fallen off the couch and yet he was still sleeping like a baby.
"You have no idea how I feel do you?" I wondered, still looking at Zach while he slept. I stood up and looked at the clock.
"9:47, ten hours of sleep. Nice." I said and walked into the kitchen. I got myself a glass of orange juice and two pieces of toast with a little butter on them. I ate slowly and then I heard the dragging of a chair across the hard wooden floor. I looked up and saw Zach sitting down with a bowl of and a glass of apple juice.
"Geez, why'd I have to wake up so early?" Zach asked himself. I giggled at him and he looked at me with a confused look.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing." I said. Katelyn came down the stairs and ruffled Zach's hair a little.
"Wait, where's the milk?" Katelyn asked, pointing at Zach's cereal.
"I always eat my cereal without milk. I tried it once, it was disgusting. Milk in general is disgusting. I hate it." Zach said.
"How can you like yogurt, ice cream, and cheese then?" Katelyn asked.
"I don't know. I just do." Zach said.
I finished my toast and orange juice and walked to the box that I had all my clothes in. I grabbed my clothes and went into the bathroom to change. After changing, I walk out of the bathroom and sit down on the couch. Zach sits next to me and hugs me. I feel my face heat up and I hug him back.
"What's this for?" I asked him.
"It's for not being here for you when you needed me." Zach said.
"Zach, you don't have to make it up to me." I said.
"Yes, I do. No matter what." he said. We let go of each other and he stood up. He walked over to his clothes box and got some socks out of it. As he put them on, I was having a mental war whether to tell him my feelings.
'Should I just tell him? He's oblivious to the fact that I like him! But, maybe I should give him time to figure it out. No! I have to tell him now! But, maybe I should wait. No, I can't wait! He'll just leave again! Or he may not.' I thought.
Third Person POV
As Jessica had a mental debate with herself, Zach left to go for a walk to clear his thoughts. The cool and crisp fall air blew past his body. He walked towards the fields behind Jessica's old house. He knelt down between the two gravestones just before the fields started.
"Sorry I wasn't here for your daughter when she needed me. She was there for me when my parents died. I'll make it up to her, I promise. Take care." Zach said.
He got up and walked back towards the house he was now currently residing in. He saw Jessica on the front porch standing behind the railing looking at the clear and ocean blue sky. She looked down at him and walked down the porch stairs towards him.
"There's something I want to tell you." Jessica said.
"Me too." Zach said.
