Chapter 1: Final Day
A mechanical arm cam close to my face and maniacal laughter filled the room. I couldn't imagine about being in any more pain than I already was. Until they gouged out my right eye. I screamed in pain and the scientists started to laugh. One of my them came up to me and hugged me for some reason. She said something to me and I looked to over to her. She smiled slightly and I tried to smile but in how much pain I was in, I just couldn't. After they treated my wounds, they let me go to bed and sleep the pain away.
The next day, they replaced my right arm and eye. But before they gave me the eye, they told me about it having an AI. But, the arm and eye weren't normal of course. The eye was black and had a blue iris, and the arm was futuristic as heck. After that, they just let me get used to them. The eye worked the same as a normal one, except it had a HUD, or heads up display. It also said something about modes. The arm could do all sorts of things, but that's a story for another time. A few hours later, I went to sleep.
As soon as I woke up, I walked around the corner to hear two scientists talking.
"You know he's going to progress at an extraordinary rate! Hell, he may turn on us today!" the head scientist said.
"I know, that's why we'll re-calibrate the AI in the eye." the other scientist said. I walked into the room and they stumbled back a little.
"Oh, hello. I'm Jack. This is Burt." the head scientist said. I stood there silent, and not moving. Then the HUD in my right eye turned orange. Jack stumbled back a little.
"Hey, why don't you look at that over there." Jack said pointing to a pencil on his desk. I looked at it and it exploded into flames. I stepped back a little.
"Well, it seems you've activated the modes." Jack said.
"Guess I have." I said. I was going to walk away, but Burt grabbed my shoulder. I shoved him off and he almost flew across the room.
I walked away, "Tomorrow, I'm busting outta here." I muttered.
The next day, I walked to the medical room and the woman who had hugged me after I had lost my original eye was there. Her ginger hair was draped over her left shoulder. She turned around and smiled at me.
"Oh, hello Zach. How are you?" she asked me with a cheerful tone.
"I'm doing good. How're you, Rachel?" I asked her.
"I'm doing great." she said smiling.
"You said there was a way out of here I could use?" I asked her.
"Yes, here." Rachel's tone of voice turned serious and she handed me a chip.
"What's this?" I asked her, confused.
"Directions." Rachel said.
"Oh, I see. So, I put this in my arm and the information is sent to my eye?" I asked her.
She looked surprised. "Yeah, how'd you know?" she asked me.
"I've picked up a few things here." I said looking around. I inserted the chip into my arm and the information got sent to the eye. I then heard a voice.
"Oh, you're finally using me, eh? Well that's no surprise." the voice said.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked. Rachel tilted her head to the side, confused.
"I'm Caleb, the AI that's inside this eye." he said.
"Caleb huh?" I wondered.
"Yeah, you're Zach Newman. Taken from your family at age ten. Really likes reading, video games, and science." Caleb said.
"Well, I underestimated you." I said.
"Yes, you did! Anyways, you want outta here?" Caleb asked me.
"Of course I do! Why the heck would I not?!" I exclaimed.
"Alright, jeez! Don't yell." Caleb said.
"Sorry." I said.
"Ya better be. Anyways, you HAVE to wait 'till night or else you WILL be caught." Caleb said.
"OK." I said. I started to walk out of the medical room.
"Thanks Rachel." I said shoving my hands into my pockets.
"You're welcome." she said. I heard her sigh, knowing that she'd miss me.
That night, Caleb guided me through the halls.
"Take a left up there." Caleb said.
"Got it." I said.
A guard came up behind me and grabbed my shoulder.
"Shit." I said.
I grabbed his arm and threw him into a wall. I started to run and I heard more footsteps behind me.
"Run, dude! Jeez you're so slow!" Caleb said.
"Shut up!" I yelled.
After a few more turns, I finally found the exit. The door started to close and I slid under it, but so did a few guards.
"Caleb, do I have any other modes besides fire?!" I exclaimed.
"Of course you do! Let's see, there's lightning, water, wind, void, and others." Caleb said.
"What does void do?" I asked him as I kept running.
"You can open portals to anywhere." Caleb said.
"OK, um... let's go with lightning!" I exclaimed.
"Fine..." Caleb groaned. Lightning surged around my right arm. I stopped abruptly and turned around.
"See ya!" I exclaimed. I threw the lightning at the two guards. They shook and fell to the ground. I chuckled a little bit.
"Let's go." I said.
"Yeah, these guys are weird." Caleb said.
"You can say that again." I said as I walked away.
After a few days of walking, I finally found a road. But, I was so tired, hungry, and thirsty, that I just couldn't walk another step. I collapsed right beside the road and my eyes started to close. Then a car came around the corner and stopped beside me.
"What in the world is a boy like him doing out here?!" the man driving the car exclaimed as he got out of the car. My eyes closed completely as he picked me up and put me into his car.
"I finally... made it." I mumbled. I then drifted off to sleep.
