The Next Morning
It didn't take long for the news of Acnologia's appearance to reach every ear of Magnolia.
The people had begun to start panicking about his appearance, wondering why he had showed up out of nowhere after all these years. They were even talking about it at the guild.
"I say we all team up and get rid of him." A random nameless background character suggested.
"You lot can't be forgetting that we have Natsu with us. He's practically Acnologia's son." Erza stated, crossing her arms.
"Doesn't that put us at a greater risk? With all the things we've done you don't know what kind of revenge he'll try to get now that he has Acnologia on his side." Macao spoke up on behalf of the other guild members that were too scared to face Erza.
"Oi! Don't be such an idiot you dimwit! Keep thinking like that and I'll sock you in the face." The ice mage glared at the old man, daring him to speak up again.
"He's right there's nothing to be worried about. Natsu has been nothing but kind recently and I would like to believe in him." Mirajane added.
"I think you all forgot about how he treated us prior to Lucy arriving. You may not have anything to worry about but you're all strong!" Jet protested, getting multiple cheers from guild members that agreed with him.
"We never know when he's going to get back at us again so the best choice is to make sure that won't happen again!" Droy yelled as he received support from more of the guild members.
"You all need to calm down. We said to not worry so sit your asses down and go on with your lives." Gajeel eyed the members, threatening them with just his gaze.
The hall grew quiet for a moment before a voice from the crowd rose up again.
"What do you know?! You're just another broken person that our master pitied and took in!"
"Hey, that's going too far! You need to learn how to humble yourselves or I'll do it for you!" Elfman roared.
The guild grew quiet again as the members were coming up with new arguments.
Erza watched with a worried mind. The master and Guildarts had gone somewhere relating to the magic council and, thankfully, Natsu hadn't shown up yet but it was only a matter of time before he came.
"Elfman you can't even defend yourself! Don't talk big!" The members had started yelling again and Erza could only grow more stressed.
She had taken the role in watching over the guild since Master was leaving to go to the council.
Elfman had gotten triggered into starting an argument and now the guild was torn into two, either side not willing to give up.
The doors of the guild creaked opened and revealed a tall man, wearing a hood that covered his face.
"What's going on here?" The man's voice was enough to make the entire guild stop.
Erza's eyes widened. He had come back. She wasn't sure if it was going to be a good thing but there was also a chance that the situation could end up worse than when the argument had started.
This man was the one deciding factor to their argument whether you could believe it or not. He would be the one to decide what they would do with the whole Acnologia situation.
"W- We were just talking about what to do with Chaos since Acnologia suddenly appeared and took him away." Jet answered, obviously nervous.
"Why would you worry about what happens to Chaos if Acnologia was the problem?" The hooded figure asked.
"Maybe he taught Chaos his bad habits growing up! You never know! He might turn out to be a bad guy after all!" Wakaba jeered.
"Then by your logic would you consider me a bad guy?" Wakaba instantly regretted his words.
He gulped hardly before speaking again.
"O- Of course not Laxus. We all know that you're a good person here."
"But how do you know I won't attack you all when I get the chance?"
The guild became completely silent, not wanting to anger the man at the entrance.
Laxus spoke up again," I didn't know Fairy Tail had a bunch of cowards who have double standards and only keep people that benefit them. I thought we all treated each other like family and equals."
"But Chaos has been tormenting us for years!" Jet shouted back, clearly been humiliated.
"I understand that. But you all shouldn't act so innocent either. Wasn't it you all who isolated Chaos and shunned him? And giving him a ridiculous name like Chaos, you've got some nerve to be talking after all the things you've done. I am partially to blame for not stopping you fools from doing such things to him but now we are learning to be better so why don't you all shut your mouths. Or would you rather I do it for you permanently?"
The guild grew silent again, being intimated by his presence.
Laxus's footsteps could be heard throughout the guild, onto the second floor where his usual seat was. No one dared to say anything while Mira served him his usual dish.
And then, as if god sent, the doors opened and revealed the little girl and three exceeds.
"Good morning!" She greeted before noticing the tension in the guildhall.
Wendy could feel a pair of eyes burning into her from the second floor the second she stepped into the guild hall. Hesitantly, she looked up to see an unfamiliar man that seemed to be the source of the tension.
"Who're you?" The man asked her once he realized that he caught her attention.
"I'm Wendy Marvell. I'm a new guild member!" Wendy replied, shooting him an angelic smile, so bright that she put the sun to shame.
Wendy skipped through the guild, seeming to have forgotten the tension and walked up to the second floor to meet the newly discovered guild member.
"I'm Laxus. The guild master's grandson." Laxus stated as he tried to get a reaction out of her.
"I didn't know master had a grandson. I guess I still have a lot to learn about the guild!" She smiled again and took a seat at the table he was sitting at.
"How long have you been here?" He seemed to have taken an interest in the small girl.
"I'd have to say a few months? Well since I can't count the time we left the guild I would have to say 3-4 months in total."
"Well why'd you leave the guild? Coulda learned more if you stayed longer."
Just before Wendy could answer, Mirajane invited herself to their table as she sat across from the man.
"Hi Wendy~! I see you've met Laxus! Are Natsu and Lucy coming to the guildhall too?"
Instead of Wendy answering, Happy slyly said," of course they are but they're still on a date so they won't be here until later."
"A date you say? I hope they know how to restrain themselves after being alone for so long." Mirajane and Happy both shared a knowing glance.
"By the way, isn't the guild a little quiet today?" Camille asked, looking over the guildhall where the members only stared back at her.
'There was a bit of a debate this morning and they still haven't settled it. You know how stubborn they can get when they don't get their way." Laxus sighed a bit.
For the rest of the day, Wendy and the three exceeds chatted with Laxus and Mira. The guild members eventually faded into their usual pace although there were some certain barriers created unconsciously.
Certain guild members wouldn't interact with others and once in a while a glare or two would be sent across the room before a bunch of whispering broke out on one side.
It was quite an unusual sight and Wendy had started to feel uncomfortable in the awkward whispering and hushed conversations that went on in the guild. She had never seen the guild members to divided which made her kind of unsure about what to expect and what would happen next.
As the day grew on the tension only grew thicker. The buzzing of conversation seemed to only be that of a dream.
The doors finally opened again during the usual lunch time, showing a distressed Natsu and a very satisfied Lucy.
The younger girl was happy to see them as she hoped that they would be able to clear the tension.
"Natsu! Lucy!" Wendy shouted from the second floor, waving for them to come join her table.
Somehow, the tension seemed to grow even thicker. Wendy suddenly grew more concerned about the reaction of her guild members and why they were being so strange. Was it really because if a simple debate?
"Hey Wendy!-" Lucy stopped before the table as she looked Laxus up and down.
Lucy turned to Natsu with one brow raised, obviously asking him who the man was without having to ask him that out loud.
"That's Laxus. He's kind of a big shot in our guild" Natsu answered as he looked around the guild," but he usually comes only for special occasions so I'm not sure why he's here."
"I'm here because of your dumbass." Laxus spoke, crossing his arms.
"Well I haven't done shit to anyone. I've been on my best behavior recently and I haven't destroyed that many towns." Natsu defended himself.
And that was when the shouting and yelling had started again.
